  1. finally a post on energy with some good info :) what we're seeing in SC is that plug loads (all the stuff plugged in the wall) are rising, 15 years ago plug loads were maybe 5-10% of the toal usage lighting, HVAC, refrigeration and water heating were 90-95% the non-incandescent bulbs have reduced usage and demand on the grid but the plug loads have increased xx times more than what the new bulbs have reduced everyone please keep buying those big screens, DVRs, cable boxes, computers, cell phone chargers and game boxes - I need a raise next time you have your big screen on, just go to the screen and see how much heat there is - that is your money coming to me :) Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. 2. done it many times with SL students and made a few myself, after all I was born with two altimeters - they haven't failed me yet Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. I vote for Chicago where they have strict gun laws.
  3. stop by the Darwin Institute and say hi to my buddies, there are a few turtles and land iguanas there that know me, worked there for awhile if you have time a trip to the Andes market outside of Quito is a good stop oh, and good thing your a skydiver, if you are flying in you will appreciate the runway - or lack there of Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. 4. I'm late to the party. As said earlier: >1 Companies will make a profit or fold >Agreed. Another part of this picture is that the profit must reflect a reasonable return on investment commensurate with the risk. Utilities are generally perceived as low risk. This allows them to have lower stock returns and access to cheap capital. Two critical components of low rates. >2 Companies making a profit have to pass the costs on to the consumer to do so >Or their shareholders. Uhhh, no. Costs of doing business are part of the product cost paid by consumers. Yes one can pass some small costs to shareholders. If done regularly or if any appreciable costs are passed on it impacts the stock price (higher risk, lower return) and discourages investors (capital). Regulated utilities are a strange beast: profits are regulated, have a fixed territory, and high oversight of business practices. They are extremly capital intensive with most equipment depreciated over 40 & 50 years. To make this work to the benefit of the customer they must have access to capital (investors). Investors require a return that is commenserate to risk. The company credit rating and regulatory actions are 2 of those risks. As risks rise investors require a higher return, his means either lower profit or higher rates. Lower profit means lower credit ratings thus higher risk and investors demand a higher return. So over the long range rate increases are the only option. Managing costs (interest rates and stock returns) is critical to controlling rates. >3 Companies will comply. They are complying >Then no problem. Case closed. We are complying and experiencing historical rate increases. This does not include any pending regulations just current ones. >4 The regulators are going nuts. They are un-elected burocrats that push their agenda >on the county through abusive regulation >Poll results, Feb 2011: 64% of Americans think Congress should let the EPA do its job. 36% think they should interfere. Most likely true. They want regulation but when power rates rise they complain - don't understand the linkage between the two. Regulation is needed but it must be reasonable and all economic issues must be considered. Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. 5. Unfortunately politics as usual. Yes, more income is needed but spending cuts offer more opportunity. I've spent (wasted ) 3 hours this week talking with so-called government subject matter experts helping them to understand basic concepts of federal contracting, simple math, and cost recovery. I still don't think they understood. I could go on with dozens of examples of waste, incompetence, ignorance and simple stupidity. None of them could get a job in the real world making a salary close to what they are being paid. It is simply amazing how incapable some federal employees are. 6. send her but think ahead about the unthinkable, like medical issues, get some pro advice on this but I'd think you would need to give the adults a notarized letter stating that you are giving them permission to make medical decisions for you, there may be some other stuff to consider just going to Canada I was questioned about my authority to take my kids across the border without my wife, they pulled the kids aside and asked them "where was mommy", "she's in the bathroom, here she comes now" Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. 7. haven't seen any discussion on the pilot age/physical condition to manage the stresses of this type flying or the ability of the plane to handle all the performance mods that had been done Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. 8. JerryBaumchen PS) I actually built my own floor-mount engine stand so I could twirl the engine around. "twirl" - real men don't twirl anything Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. I vote for Chicago where they have strict gun laws.
  9. So, are you going to let her dictate your underwear preference? If she is cute...yeah And ever try to get an engineering girl to understand the cocept of a booty call? I gave up at the 30 min mark. Shah "Hi girl, haven't seen you in two weeks, why don't you come over and help me make dinner." Enginering Chick "Oh yeah I love cooking! What are you cooking?" Shah "Aaaahhhh food...but it's going to be good. Come on over and give me a hand, it's mid week so nothing over the top. Jus a quick little meal." Engineering Chick "Oh i love those! OK what should I bring?" Shah "Aaaahhh...wine?" Engineering Chick "Oh i love wine....bla bla bla bla bla" Shah "Yeah......ok just com over." Engineering girl "OK so what should I bring?" Shah "JUS YOU! DUMB ASS THIS IS A BOOTY CALL!" __________________________________ You just don't get it. Translation: damn a booty call from Shah, no way I'd let that lunk head touch me, I'll play engineer and act like I don't know what is going on, maybe he can actually cook Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. 10. the cities don't "make" any significant amount of heat, they simply collect it, store it and radiate it longer than the surrounding environment the mass and color of the roads, sidewalks, building walls and roofs collect the heat all day and slowly radiate it for hours, just put your hand on a stone/brick wall a couple hours after the sun goes down and see how hot it is Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. I vote for Chicago where they have strict gun laws.
  11. This was in the Waco Tribune Herald, Waco , TX Put me in charge . . . Put me in charge of food stamps. I'd get rid of Lone Star cards; no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho's, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want steak and frozen pizza, then get a job. Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I'd do is to get women Norplant birth control implants or tubal ligations. Then, we'll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine and document all tattoos and piercings. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, smoke or get tats and piercings, then get a job. Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks? You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your "home" will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions will be inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your own place. In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a "government" job. It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you. We will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the common good". Before you write that I've violated someone's rights, realize that all of the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules.. Before you say that this would be "demeaning" and ruin their "self esteem," consider that it wasn't that long ago that taking someone else's money for doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self esteem. If we are expected to pay for other people's mistakes we should at least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system rewards them for continuing to make bad choices. AND While you are on Govt subsistence, you no longer can VOTE! Yes that is correct. For you to vote would be a conflict of interest. You will voluntarily remove yourself from voting while you are receiving a Govt welfare check. If you want to vote, then get a job. Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. I vote for Chicago where they have strict gun laws.
  12. One out of how many? What can a 150 do that a 170 can't? Sparky not sure what the first question means the point of my reply was not to suggest a 150 but was to say that staying on the big canopy forever was not necessary and since I'm getting older, slower, etc. looking at upsizing to a 190 Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. I vote for Chicago where they have strict gun laws.
  13. There is good reason to stay at that wingloading forever. Lots of very experienced jumpers do not go any more aggressive than that, and they are still able to walk without a limp after decades of jumping. uhhhhh - no exit weight 240, jump a 150, no limps, no injuries for the original post, at your jump level there is plenty of learning to do before going smaller, how happy you will be depends on alot of stuff, but how happy will you be if you downsize and crash yourself? Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. I vote for Chicago where they have strict gun laws.
  14. all above is good advice check with your instructors, they are the best judge of what would be best then check with a rigger to make sure what you are considering will "fit" together, it is possible to buy components that are not compatible Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. I vote for Chicago where they have strict gun laws.
  15. maybe we're just killin off the crooks faster than new crooks are being born once the politicians pass the 2 minute rule crime will go down because then there will be consequences Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. I vote for Chicago where they have strict gun laws.
  16. with the exit backing off the tailgate not diving off, the approach is a little tricky we've always used: check left, right, up, down, arch depending on the size of the jumpers it can be a tight fit, suggest you walk thru it with gear on, hold the bar from underneath - have seen some bad stuff when the hand was on top of the bar Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. I vote for Chicago where they have strict gun laws.
  17. girl - what for you keep doing this stuff to yourself If you walk into a police station the first thing they would ask: Is your boyfriend left handed? If not, did he have a beer in his right hand? Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. I vote for Chicago where they have strict gun laws.

  21. I had a SST, Sharpchuter and round reserve. back in 1985. It had capewells that were converted to R3's. There is plenty of "better", more modern gear around. I'd carefully check the age of the gear and get it inspected by YOUR rigger. Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. I vote for Chicago where they have strict gun laws.
