  1. How'd you like that rematch? All SEC championship game again! Where's Futuredivot??? Woo Hoo - Clemmy was outmanned, outgunned, outcoached and outplayed. Nickie boy was mad and got even. The final game should be interesting. Wish I had bought some tickets and a few hotel rooms, the Clemmy folks are making good money reselling them. 3. . Yep. Companies that have good plans and provide for their employees will attract the spouse that has a crap plan. Many companies have done variations of this. My company charges a monthly premium if the spouse has a company plan but is covered by ours. Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. 4. As the killings in Chicago continue every day every week, barely noticed or reported. There's no substantial difference between one shooter and many dead versus many shooters with many dead. 7. it's never major surgery until it's on you, then it's major watching a hurricane on TV is nothing like being in it, we had Hugo in 1989 and know what this is about SC declared a state of emergency yesterday and will have mandatory evacuations announced this weekend folks are preparing, helping each other, taking in folks from FL, based on the level of preparation and number of homes with generators the residents will be much more self-sufficient than last time the counties and utility companies have activated their storm plans, vacations are canceled, current predictions are the fun starts Monday evening Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. 8. guys that prey on the new jumper girls, the girls think the guys are all nice, sweet and skygodish, etc., they don't know they are being used, talked about and will be thrown out as soon as the next young thing comes along Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. 9. how sweet - lol reading comprehension and maturity are not your strong suits, two of many skills needed for a PRO rating if you felt that a reply was needed so many other responses would have been appropriate Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. 10. if you really need help solving this issue then you may want to reconsider a PRO rating you'll be making numerous complicated decisions, some in only seconds with potentially significant consequences just sayin' Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. 11. Some DZs have a formal training program to get the new jumpers from just-off-student-status to a level where they can be successful in larger groups. Skydive Carolina has the New Heights program. The goal is to provide new jumpers with a solid foundation of knowledge and experience so they can be safe with themselves and others without supervision in all aspects of the sport. We don't want them being coached by those with undeveloped skills and bad habits. We discuss each jumpers personal goals, safety, manifesting, gear selection, avoiding DZ predators and not being a predator, where to sit in the plane for a safe and efficient exit, managing the door, proper climb outs, exits, the skydiving techniques that change from being an AFF/AFP student to "big boy" skydiving - primarily turns and tracking, and canopy flight. We focus on 3 three basic foundation skills: matching fall rate, maintaining proximity and turns - at the basic level that's what the great teams do. The 3 skills are practiced in no-contact skydives. It's our belief that constantly hanging on to someone develops bad habits. Once a jumper is comfortable with no-contact they will fly with looser grips, be in their slot and not back out doing multi-point jumps. We provide a 2.5 hour training class then get in the air. The first jump is one-on-one with an experienced skydiver that can perform the skills and coach. After this evaluation jump we determine what skills each jumper needs to work on and move them to the appropriate jump or level in the program. Each subsequent jump enhances the 3 foundation skills and increases in difficulty. The jumper receives pre-jump training and a debrief, much like when they were an AFF/AFP student. We're in our second year and the results are amazing. We have low-number jumpers doing multi-point jumps in progressively larger groups. We recently did a 3-point 9-way with two of the young jumpers. It built smoothly, on time, and stayed on level. That jump was preceded by a 10-point 6-way, 7-pt 7-way and 13-pt 5-way. These jumps are being done by free flying the exit and building to a center point. It's fairly normal to build the first point inside of 15 seconds. With the right jumpers in the right slots we'll build an 8-way inside of 10-seconds. We're having fun, the young jumpers are learning and the more experienced jumpers have more qualified jumpers to jump with. Did I mention the class and coaching are free? They pay for their slot and gear rental, if needed. The experienced jumper slots are paid by the DZ. Our DZO team believes this is smart business as it retains younger jumpers, they jump more and reduces the potential for accidents. Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. 12. Hey, you were in my back yard, should have come by the party. Alcohol, grills, jet skis, boats, 35 skydivers and the eclipse, what could possibly go wrong? 14. won't it be fun in 6 - 7 years near the end of his second term when the Dems and media finally figure out his strategy give them silly things to focus on while the big business gets done CNN will be gone, illegal immigration will be significantly decreased, no longer will an American citizen have to worry about being killed by an illegal, Killary, Obama and their bunch will be in jail, the health care system will actually work, the stock market will be +++, and North Korea and Russia won't be an issue the fun will be huge OR the obstructionist DEMS win and we go back down the failed pathways that Trump is fighting to pull us out of just my thoughts, no need to argue, I won't read the replies, I see the other side just don't agree, back to more interesting things - it's almost eclipse party time Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. 15. If the public gets no benefit from the modification, it makes sense to pass the costs on to the generator. If the public gets benefits from the modification, it makes sense to pass the costs on to the customers. ***In my area the local co-op's were smart. They never did net metering and starting last year all residential rates are time-of-use with a larger basic facility charge. This is a fair way to allow anyone that wants to use alternative generation, typically solar, to not impact the cost to other customers. That will last until battery systems start with power arbitrage, reducing the costs for TOU customers with such systems. Then the other ratepayers will again complain - "why should they get to pay less for power? Raise _their_ rates!" Everyone wants the other guy's rates raised; no one wants their own rates raised. It's been that way since utilities became public. (And it's one reason utilities are public to begin with - so people have some voice in their own rates.) Yes!!! battery storage is the ultimate game changer, and cost-effective small modular reactors are another game changer. When the technical issues are resolved and the cost low enough either of these will be huge. Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. I vote for Chicago where they have strict gun laws.

  17. Technology advancement is always fun. What is happening with reliability is long term improvement and short term problems. We've got one going now that will be interesting to see how it is solved and who pays for it, the fix will be a few million $$. Until it is fixed the only option is to turn-off the generator. The utility industry is spending an incredible amount of money adapting to these point-source generators. I'm OK with that but it is an interesting discussion on who should pay for these changes. One alternative generation proponent has stated, "it's not my fault that you didn't design your system for this." Notice how he has made this personal with the YOU word. How about, "the system was designed to accommodate what was known at the time, we're OK with you adding your generator but it doesn't seem reasonable to expect others to pay for the system modifications required to allow your generator to operate safely." There are certain costs that can and should be rate-based (shared) by all customers. What we're finding is that the majority of the system modification costs don't benefit the public and thus should be borne by the generator. The typical response is, "this is just a ploy to make my project uneconomical." The unemotional reality is, "we're unwilling to require other customer to pay the costs (socialize) that a new system causes just so the project can be economical for the owner." I expect these discussion to become more frequent. It's interesting how the country is "waking up" to the economic unfairness of net metering. This is a great example of how when you give someone something they don't deserve they think it is theirs forever and get really upset when you try to take it away. There's a big fight ongoing in NC and in other states. In my area the local co-op's were smart. They never did net metering and starting last year all residential rates are time-of-use with a larger basic facility charge. This is a fair way to allow anyone that wants to use alternative generation, typically solar, to not impact the cost to other customers. Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. 20. if the goal was to exit at an 8 count you needed to start climbing out earlier and if you are looking for 45 degrees you are an idiot, anyone that taught you to do that is an idiot this topic has been discussed for years and the 45 degree rule does not work, it's just crazy that it even comes up Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. 21. Guy in Bar Harbor Maine, calls the cops to report his wife missing. Says she went Kayaking in the harbor and didn't return! Cops start a big search and call him the next day, saying they found the overturned Kayak, but no sign of the wife! The next day they call and tell him they have Bad News, Good News and Better News! The Bad News is, they found the wife on the harbor bottom, drowned. The man asks what's the Good News. Cop tells him that when they pulled her up, she had 12 of the finest Maine Lobsters that anyone can remember seeing since the 60"s clinging to her and the Fire Department thought he might want a share of them! The man asks what's the Better news and the cop tells him they are going to pull her up again tomorrow! Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. 22. Yep. All utility consumers benefit from lower cost solar - but there will be additional costs as well to handle the additional DER's. ***that is just a silly statement, below your normal intelligent answers, energy consumption is down for lighting and appliances . . . . . . resulting in higher operating costs per kwhr due to the reduced load overall (fewer plants running at peak efficiency.) And utilities then, again, share those costs among all consumers, even those who did not increase energy efficiency. But we see this as a good thing as well, and thus encourage it. Agreed. And utilities that are able to integrate a lot of low-cost solar into their grids will do better than utilities that do not have the skill/technology/infrastructure to do so, since their costs will be lower. As this happens, other utilities will learn from the winners. no clue what you are smoking to write this BS, there is no such thing as low cost solar when it only operates part of the cycle, in my area the beast systems are available 23%, then the greenies want to suck on the grid, but they don't want to pay for it Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. 24. and YES the subsidy issue makes all this difficult to analyze the worst most obvious and easiest to fix subsidy is net metering, a few states are trying to fix it and the solar peeps are screaming worse than the dems over crooked Killary they know that if people understood that issue they would vote to get rid of net metering it's easy to understand: electricity is a bundled product, the kWh cost (let's pick 12 cents) includes all costs, generation, transmission, distribution, taxes, metering, etc., in this example the cost of the actual electricity is 4 cents, the other costs do not go away unless the customer disconnects from the grid net metering requires the utility to pay 12 cents for solar generation, that's just crazy when it only costs the utility 4 cents to generate a kWh thus the solar generator is getting an 8 cents subsidy per kWh which is paid by all other customers, the cost is socialized yes I've left out a lot of details to make this easy but that is the concept some areas have decided to raise the base monthly charge to cover the "hardware" costs and that eliminates the subsidy, the current data shows that cost is approximately $60-$80, I'm sure it ranges wider than that but that is the basic idea the thread topic is about - does it work, yes, technically it works but the economics are widely dispersed based on regional differences Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. I vote for Chicago where they have strict gun laws.
  25. don't know about the others but NC has an RPS and net metering, it forces the utility to install solar regardless of the economics, and to buy solar generation at unreasonable prices (net metering) the excess cost - that cost of solar that is above the current avoided cost - is passed to all customers in rates, socializing the uneconomical generation source Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. I vote for Chicago where they have strict gun laws.
