  1. She cute? Refer to the thread about cute girls getting away with way more than non cute girls. For further proof wait till spring when the "new" students show up...check out the cute girl...watch how nothing is really her fault Don't hate me because I'm right Everything about her is a mess "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss

  6. I suggested this as well... (*Before* he used the chemical stuff, but he went right on ahead and poured the stuff in...) On the plus side, he has now contacted the owner and building maintenance and a real plumber. I think he has perhaps finally realised he is not the best person to do DIY... ETA - Not sure but I think internal plumbing falls under the tenant's responsibility over here... In any case, the main thing is he seems to be dealing with it properly now. 7. If you are subletting from your flatmate I believe you should have your own insurance. Well, the good thing is that in France it's mandatory to get renter's insurance. This insurance, however, doesn't always cover your personal belongings, although it can. And it doesn't always cover other people's belongings in the flat, but it can. I haven't had a chance to check with him yet, but as he uses one of the rooms as storage for the stock from his company, I wouldn't be surprised if he had the whole-nine-yards... Bully ownage!

Well, the kids were egging him on... He was laughing and so were all his friends... And the big kid displayed no aggressive behaviour until he was pushed - several times - to react. Sure doesn't seem like the little guy was a victim... Jumping to conclusions? Maybe. Not based on any facts? No way. We may not have seen the "whole picture" but there are certainly lots of facts that lead to everyone's conclusion (that the little kid - and his friends - are the bullies). 9. Well, thanks for all the plumbing advice, but I'm not doing anything more. This is not the first time he has reacted to my help by trying to blame me for his fuck-up... It's clearly not in my interest to get involved. "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss
  10. Agreed. Thank you, for actually watching the video. Thank you for posting the video. I watched the entire thing and more links of him besides. I find it scary what he's doing. He spent many years becoming an expert at rousing anger and hatred of Israel - he seems to be doing a pretty good job at doing the same against Islam. And too many people are giving him airtime without critically deconstructing/studying/understanding his claims... Dangerous... Very dangerous... Bully ownage!

I meant generally speaking avoiding problems is *easier*... But not always "better." So for instance, I try to avoid getting raped by not walking alone late at night in dodgy neighbourhoods. I avoid confrontation with drunken people who seem totally irrational. But in this case, where it's the schoolyard and the big kid is going to keep getting harassed by those twerps... Well, like I said... I was glad the little kid got flipped. Bully ownage!

I found many things annoying about the video... That little shit kid for one. The little shit kids who were encouraging him, secondly. The little shit who was filming and the other one who kept telling him to keep recording because it was "great" or "awesome" whatever the exact term that he used. I don't know if it was right for the bigger kid to fight back... Usually the thing that gets you in the least amount of trouble is to walk away (if possible before things even start in the first place). But damn it, I was glad that little twerp got flipped. 13. People like that annoy the hell out of me. I rarely spend more than a few minutes around them. Yep - normally, I would agree, but this one is family... Ya just gotta try that little bit harder for family
  14. Thank you for bumping - we sometimes forget about these important things. Given the recent plumbing boo-boo, I will ask just exactly what my flatmate's insurance covers... 15. Talk about stating the obvious?! One would think. Yet there are an awful lot of people who seem to think that life happens to them. Yep - I have a sibling that is like that... It's like the whole world is always against her. Guess it means that nothing is ever her fault, but seems to me like a shitty way to go through life when all she can ever be is a victim... 16. A simple commode plunger will usually clear that problem, by forcing high pressure water through the pipe to clear the blockage. Nataly: It sounds like you need to take charge of maintenance, and do what's necessary before he gets his hands on the situation. I have a plumber's snake and a plunger and as I said, I cleaned/cleared the pipes a couple of weeks ago, which is why I suggested he call in a plumber to have a better look. Anyhoo, there is no water leaking anywhere so it's really mostly funny. And there is no way in hell I am taking over any kind of big maintenance - not only is it not my responsibility but I'm not putting myself in a position where he could blame me for any kind of problems. Surprisingly, after the first explosion he actually tried to argue that maybe it happened because I hadn't tightened the pipes back up enough when I "fiddled with them" 2 weeks ago.. No more - he can deal with everything himself and pay for it himself if/when it goes wrong. 18. So I noticed about 2 weeks ago that the kitchen sink was clogging up and I told the flatmate about it. I went away and when I came back, it was still clogged, but worse. I said I could remove and clean the trap, but that since I did that a few weeks ago I reckoned the problem was further along the pipes. I also said I thought it would be a good idea to get someone to look at it, since the problem has persisted for a while. He instead brought home some chemical stuff... I told him "doesn't sulphuric acid corrode and cause fumes and/or explosions if used incorrectly??" And he said no, this is what some dude he met told him to use. Well, long story short, we have now had 2 minor "explosions" and we have burst pipes and a sink that is in pieces. Nicely done. Apparently the same dude who told him to use the chemical stuff is coming tomorrow FOR FREE to check out our sink. I *have* mentioned that I don't really see the wisdom in that, but the flatmate seems to know best... 19. That was the point I was trying to make. You slammed another poster's point on the basis that he didn't understand genetics, when you didn't seem to understand it yourself. Just struck my as ironic and mildly hypocritical. "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss
  20. I just think it offends some people's notions of what they think a marriage *should* be. - If you say marriage is about procreation, then a heck of a lot of people who have no intention of procreating shouldn't be getting married. - If you say marriage is about religious beliefs, then a heck of a lot of irreligious people shouldn't be getting married. - If you say marriage should be between a man and a woman, that really isn't a reason - it's just a "feeling." - If you say marriage is about legal rights, then if anything, this arguments supports expanding these rights to gay couples, even if it is merely a contract and not called a "marriage." - If you say marriage is simply a way to celebrate the love between two people, what possible reason would there be to deny gays the right to celebrate their love?? The fact is, it's all of these things combined and to varying degrees, and I'm sure I'm missing a bunch more besides. I still don't have a problem with it because I personally feel marriage is a social construction, and as it's made-up anyway, why not let everyone have it. (As long as all parties involved are consenting adults.) 21. You *really* didn't get it... I only mentioned inbreeding because people are most closely genetically similar to their family - I used inbreeding to explain genetics (which you seem not to have a clear understanding of). I did NOT use inbreeding to explain hypertension in African Americans descended from slaves. You made that connection - not me. 22. I agree the "mugger" owes the "victim" retribution. But does that really apply to the children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, etc. of theirs? Well, I can't speak for ShotterMG, but when you take away or deny rights to people, it can take several generations to correct the problems. I don't think it's about retribution as much as it's a way to neutralise a situation. I think positive discrimination is just as distasteful as negative discrimination, but there are circumstances that warrant it. It may be quite unpleasant in the short term, but if it means greater strides toward equality, it seems preferable to slow and dragged-out methods that will never achieve equality... 23. Perhaps you don't really understand genetics... How many generations of inbreeding did Cleopatra come from??? The closer you are genetically to another person, the higher the likelihood that he/she will posses the same recessive genes. This means that there is a higher chance of your offspring displaying these recessive traits. These traits can include diseases but also things like blue eyes and blond hair and a resistance to certain diseases... There is a reason why (some) dog and cat breeders like to create "pure breeds"... Yes, they may be more susceptible to some ailments, but also they are more likely to display the characterictics they like in that particular breed. Note: I still find the idea of inbreeding icky!!! Sleeping with my brother??? No thanks ETA - In case anyone was going to criticise, just wanted to point out that I picked "blue eyes" and "blond hair" purely because they are recessive traits/genes.
