WOW... we really need to think about this.
justinb138 replied to Rstanley0312's topic in Speakers Corner
Keynes was correct and the Voodoo economists wrong. During the good times we should be paying down the debt, not continuing to borrow. Both are wrong. -
So in their short history of widespread use it would appear that tasers have gone from being a "less-lethal" alternative to deadly force, to a means of ensuring compliance, and now one appears to have been used by an officer in retaliation.

You are very naive if you believe this. Isn't causing management to do things that benefit themselves the very purpose of unions? If not, then what is their purpose?

Beer pong with Arrogant Bastard Ale would be quite expensive.... Those should be with the Keystone and Natty Light.

If he says he hopes you get fired, it's obvious he has no real authority that would involve him in that decision. His napping, reading, and playing on the internet probably has something to do with that. F*ck 'em. Worry about your job, let them keep doing what they're doing. With the current economy, slacking at work is not something you want to be doing anyway.

Seven shot dead at US army base in Texas
justinb138 replied to masterblaster72's topic in Speakers Corner
Ask Antonin Scalia - even he has no difficulty acknowledging that the 2nd does not provide unlimited rights. It's too bad that none of them seem to have the same thoughts toward the Commerce clause. -
I think it's the "spend it now and figure out how to pay for it later" mentality that people are attributing to Obama. In that respect, he's no different than most of Congress and state legislatures on both sides of the aisle. Gotta love the way that works: Business is booming? Spend more money! Middle of a recession? Spend more money! It's hard to believe that no one ever thought to save any of it when times were good.

Serious question: what would you recommend? If Congress does not have the forensic and other findings from federal and military law enforcement, on what should they base their assessment? Congressional hearings don't do original on-scene investigations, e.g., forensics. I can't think of an example. Anyone? I couldn't find local law enforcement mentioned in the article cited; it does state "until federal law enforcement and military authorities have completed their probes...." /Marg Ever since the steroids in baseball thing, I've considered congressional hearings to be mostly a taxpayer-funded political circle-jerk anyway. -
http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-state-tax31-2009oct31,0,2028140.story Forced Loan? Is this the "politically correct" term for theft? Hey, it's probably at least signed by your Governator, if not dreamed up by him. Dude, if you only knew the half of the creative thinking coming out of Sacramento... It seems that if they spent half as much effort trying to actually solve the budgeting issue & cutting spending as they did coming up with questionably-legal tax collection schemes, they wouldn't have the need for them in the first place.

I've only been in Connecticut a few months, but I believe the term is "masshole". IMO, I've been out of the sport for ~2 yrs, I'll consider myself a skydiver again once I start checking the weather obsessively and friends stop asking what my plans are for the weekend.

WYSIWYG web page builder software program thingy----
justinb138 replied to Dumpster's topic in The Bonfire
Visual Web Developer Express is free from MS, it's a 'lite' version of Visual Studio for web-specific stuff. If database connectivity is something you need, it works well with the express editions of SQL Server (it's a pain with DB2 and Oracle though). If you're looking at anything other than Asp.NET/IIS, I'd go with Dreamweaver though. -
Depends. By USA do you mean it's citizens, or it's government? Biggest threat to people - the federal government (and the special interests controlling it). The biggest threat I see from is government is the likely collapse of the US dollar if things continue at the same ridiculous rate. Biggest threat to the government - the people.

Obama Rejects all Military / Nat Security Options
justinb138 replied to warpedskydiver's topic in Speakers Corner
The 'top military experts' have been at this since 2001. At what point do they review the lessons learned by the Soviets about indefinite fighting in this place? He's right to question them hard and long before sending tens of thousands more there. Gotta love the way politics works. We've got a lawyer dictating military strategy, union bosses running the department of labor, drunks making healthcare policies, tax cheats running the treasury, and adulterers making laws about gay marriage. Do you really expect the 'top military experts' to consider the economic aspects of a continued and drawn-out war when congress won't even do it? -
I think there are corporations and I think there is labor. I think both sides are required to do anything. I think that for many years, starting with the Reagan administration, corporations have been given huge breaks toward union busting. Some people that call themselves conservatives bitch about "Union Bosses", but I think the current balance is way out of whack in favor of "Corporate Bosses." The average working guy today has far less power and real money in his pocket than at any time in the last 50 years and a big reason for that has to do with the notion that "unions are bad" and union busting. Corporations can run roughshod over their employees and the best folks can hope for right now is to get screwed over as little as possible. Even now most union negotiations are not about increases, but rather limiting cuts. When I see the decline of the automotive industry and the completely stupid and insane vehicles they've been selling; when I see the amount of corporate greed at the top; trust me, it's not ALL the union's fault. The same goes pretty much across the board in most industries. Management makes horrible decisions and still takes home huge paychecks. Corporate Presidents are hired and fired in major companies and leave with 90 million dollar severance packages for shitty work done over 9 months. Somebody, somewhere, needs to be looking out for the little guys. I think I'd agree with most of what you wrote, although we may disagree whether unions' goals involve looking out for the little guy. I see them as pretty much the same as big, government-involved business - looking out for their own interests.

What do you think?

Why is that to be a "moderate" in the GOP you have to agree with all of the things the democrats want? Nothing like trying to marginalize a party by labeling those with principals as "extremists".

Have one - will be using it to get to Boston. It won't tell me where the easiest place to park and ride the subway into town is. Maybe I need a newer model.

Anyone on here know their way around Boston? I'm going to be heading that direction this afternoon and I'm wondering what the easiest way to get to a place is.
