Faye, We'll be in the 172, so feel free to beg Clay to sit in the back (if you dare). It's his flight time to decide if he wants to experience something other than the forward edge of the c.g. envelope with two big guys sitting up front. I don't know how much admission he'd charge you for the show.

I'm not concern. I know you'll figure it out. I've had instructors in the past that would make you work your butt off if you did something to piss them off (like lie to them). There's a fine line between working a student and harassment. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

Hmmm... I have a feeling that your next lesson is going to be extremely difficult.

I guess I did kinda grab it away from you, didn't I. I try not to do that, but my need for self preservation must have kicked in. We were coming down right on top of that bastard. You were lined up perfect to land on the numbers, only problem was that someone else was there! The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

That sucks! I hope he heals quick. Perhaps he'll get to experience the Porter with us. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

I didn't scare him, but I think the jerk that pulled out on the runway when we were coming around to land a simulated engine failure might have. Come to think about it, it may have been the jump plane . The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

Yeah, I was flying around with Clay yesterday and he was trying to fly and use a satelite internet connection at the same time. It was sort of an obsessive compulsive thing I guess. If he stopped posting for a few minutes his flying got worse, until he posted again. BTW, if you can't figure it out, this isn't true. Clay did disappoint me though. I was expecting him to scare the shit out of me, and he never quite managed to do so.

Long time no hear (or is that read?), Sis! The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

Listen to the broken one, or at least read her typing. I searched a good long while before our trip to China and couldn't find a DZ anywhere. I even asked several of my Chinese friends with no luck. The Chinese word for skydive is tiao (descending tone) san (descending then rising tone). This literally means jump umbrella. If you need an interpreter give the Dutchboy a call!

Don't confuse cheap to purchase with cheap to own. $30k for a 2-seater isn't cheap. My understanding is that parts are generally cheaper on the Cessnas than on Mooney and Piper. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

You probably don't want to go to the FBO that is charging those rates. There are lots of schools that have high rental rates and then they screw the instructors in order to get the total cost down. You only need 20 hours with the instructor, but 40 in the plane, so which would you rather lower? Also, if they are charging you $15/hr for the instructor they are probably only paying him $7/hr. If an instructor will work that cheap he is probably only doing it for the hours to get another job. I don't know anything about the particular school you speak of, just pointing out some general rules of thumb. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

You are definitely right about this. The school where I did all my CFI training has a private pilot program for $2995. You might need a little more time than is in this program, but you probably won't be spending more that $4k by the time you are done. It definitely pays to shop around when you are looking to fly. If you are learning to fly in a brand new plane full of avionics you are throwing your money away. Why pay twice as much for a plane that is weighed down with things you won't learn to use for a long time. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

I've found that flying and skydiving both tend to make the other skill better. Knowing how to fly a plane does wonders for your canopy skills. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

You can combine your hobbies by flying yourself to different DZ's. If you bring a few friends along it isn't very expensive to fly somewhere. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

As a pilot and flight instructor, I have to wonder. Have any of you found yourself interested in learning to fly as a result of skydiving? I would suspect this is somewhat common. It is certainly more common that pilots suddenly wanting to skydive. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

If you don't care what color it is, I would buy the used one and save the cash. If you do care, or are looking for an uncommon size you might have to go new. I have nearly 130 jumps on my Hornet 190 with 220lbs suspended weight. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

You should really try ATL Air Sportz. They are only 10 miles further than the other DZ. Drive time is less than half of the drive to SD ATL. They now have the Porter Friday-Sunday. Sometimes they have this really awesome jump pilot. I think his name is Phil.

The plane is not quite flying yet. I was hoping to have it in the air this year, but have had a few setbacks. Not having a job has made finishing it difficult. We've nearly finished the fiberglass work for the cowl and will fit the wings this weekend. After that it is tweaking, inspecting & paint. Yep, I started skydiving at SDA, lately I've been hanging out at Atlanta Air Sportz which is half the distance from my house. I was at SDC this summer for Summerfest. I flew in a crappy rented 172 with two friends. We stayed with Tall Guy from the rigging loft. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

Cool! Thanks for loacting these letters. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

Most important thing is the people who jump and/or work there. Of course, I am also very safety conscience. A big jumpship is nice, but I'd rather drive further just to jump a 182 with cool people than jump with a Casa load of assholes at a DZ that isn't concerned for my safety. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

I had the distinct mispleasure of meeting him shortly after ariving at HIS DZ which is located on HIS airport near HIS lake, all of which underlies HIS air. I don't think SDC is a bad DZ, but I also don't think it is that special. If it weren't for having two otters running instead of just one, I couldn't have told the difference between SDC during Summerfest and say Skydive ATL on a summer Saturday. I'm with Jumper Vali on this one. I have no intention of sending in this proxy that says they can do whatever they want including changing the way board members are elected. If they truly had just a single issue that they wanted to solve with these proxies they could put it on the proxy instead of asking for a "blank check". Threatening to waste OUR money to make another request if we don't just cooperate is total BS. As for not being a USPA member, you are screwed in this country if you aren't. Most DZ's are required to be USPA group members if they are on public airports, and they in turn require you to be a USPA member to jump there. I also like the clause on your license that says it is only valid while you are a USPA member. The Dutchboy http://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
