  1. I was taught more from just hanging around and talking with experienced skydivers both at Sebastian and at Deland(which by the way you were one that I picked up idea's from, Dave). it really is a great way to learn. it took me from march 10th till almost two and a half months later to finish AFF at Sebastian due to winds. but I still drove down there at least twice a week and just hung out with some great people. wierd thing is I did my last 3 jumps all in one day. and then did my solo hop n pop...can't beat that...
  2. high pullers last....UNLESS you have a birdman on board..that might change things a bit. one other thing to remember is that some dropzones will not allow you to pull all that high due to air coridors in the area and other problems with air traffic. just something to discuss with your DZO, S&TA, and most importantly your pilots. 3. Hornets are great....thing is they pack up small...it'll probably be not the tightest in your J3 but it'll work. Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman....
  4. who's steering that parachute again???? I set my brakes and daisy chain right there on the spot...I dont want to walk in front of landing jumpers...I dont like to play dodge the swooper's...I think I'm much safer staying put. plus I gotta wait till my honey makes it down so I can get the smooch Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman....
  5. Joe's on vacation for a while....so dont expect him to be there... Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman....
  6. funny thing is I wasn't going to buy a safire when i did. It was a few weeks before WFFC and I needed a canopy fast. This canopy happened to be for sale at Square 1 as one of there used Demo fleet. they said it had a relatively new line set and just a few holes. I really didn't care about what color it was. well this was the start of my journey with the safire. my first 20 plus jumps I got the snot slammed out of me...on opening and on landing. I just could not figure this thing out. it was making diving off heading openings. the flare was awful(so i thought at the time). well then I learned that I needed to start psycho packing the canopy. this helped tame down the slammer's to a more acceptable level. I still had off heading openings now and then. But I could handle that. then I finaly figured out the sweet spot of the flare. I went from standing up 2 out of 20 to standing up almost every single landing and even having the thing pop me back up into the air. this was just after one of the low jump# skygods at the local DZ told me the safire has no flare...even thoug he had never jumped one in his life. the canopy literaly lifted me 10ft plus back up into the air which I rode out and landed on my feet nice and softly. Well then a few weeks after making a post about the slammers HooknSwoop PM'd me about a mod that he does to help slow down the openings and improve flare. I finaly got the mod done after waiting almost 6 months. well let me tell you. I now have a few jumps on the mod and the thing is just awesome when it comes to openings. nice SLLOOWWWW snivels the way I like them. I have none of the diving tendency's like I had before. it is realy nice not to cringe when I deploy like I had before at times. On the Bottom end I have mega flare. it seemed to me that I am not even using half of the available flare. I am sure I can swoop the thing much longer than I am. I am more than capable of shutting it down any time I wish. for an extended swoop or a nice and short flare to a full stop in a relatively small space. to sum it up, I love my canopy, it is a ton of fun in the sky, turns are great with no oversteer, easy to stall and recover, recovery arc is relatively short(which is fine with me right now), I'd definately recomend the mod be done for anyone with the safire, it really does make a great canopy better.
  7. Often...I was one of them, on my second AFF jump I had a rather hard landing that I ended up going to the ER for...nothing in the incidents at all. one other problem I see is that S&TA's tend to be employee's of the DZ. hence I think there is some sort of a conflict of interest when it comes to saftey in some regards. 8. One good thing about S/L is it can benefit the DZ. it enables them to still put out students when the ceiling is down. when the AFF only DZ's stop. some first time and prcp and 5 or more second drops can happen... Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman....

  11. I used to do it all the time at the firehouse....fun to scare my fellow firefighters at the time...they still think I am nuts...good think i dont work there anymore...
  12. I did it the 2-3 jump way..it worked for me...but I would recomend doing it all in a shorter amount of time...it really will help. marc
  13. Looks like the main was packed a little lop sided.... looks cool man...ya just can't go wrong with wings...ya really can't...
  14. for me it was goggles first during AFF, altimiter during AFF or just after, new helmet just after graduation, audible altimeter a few weeks..and jumps later, then my jump bubble freefly suit, then the rig.... Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman....
  15. 1:3:1 1 very pissed off GF who still couldn't jump..and had to watch me have fun the whole day:3 great jumps..1 freefly..nice to know I havn't made a jump in almost 4 months but nailed my sit right out of the door

  18. Yup...we are not to work a traumatic arrest..unless it happens right in front of us...which means..if my partner died in front of me due to something. but other than that....so long.. Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman....
  19. the trap door I think is more felt because you are being supported by the drogue..then drop from that when the drogue is release... Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman....
  20. umm...I know...so does my collapsable pilot chute. it will collapse as soon as the canopy is out of the bag. well before inflation. they both work the same way. Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman....
  21. I think Anne and I took about 5-10 minutes to hook up my steering lines the last time... Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman....
  22. This is my reasoning...I can't afford it...simple as that..I dont see how I have to do "some serious thinking"...are you too afraid to make a jump without a cypres? Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman....
  23. I have a mechanical and it has ceased to function before....and also have had it show some bizarre altitudes at times. it took a chamber ride with me and had no problems. just because you have a mechanical does not mean it will work as prescribed. your best bet is to get used to what the ground looks like at certain altitudes. your eye's are an excelent tool if you let them be trained. 24. Aggie, you'd be proud to know that parts of Belleville are in my protection district.....were you born at St.E's or memorial? marc Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman....
  25. Djan, this is where it comes down to everyone has opposing opinions. No one's opinion is any more right than the other's. I respect your choice, but having been a person who has been subjected to peeing ina bottle for the last 12 years of my career while treating patients and driving 750,000 dollar fire trucks, I always wonder when people who don't submit, if they have something to hide. now I dont know you...but that is my honest feeling when people I do know don't submit. It may be some people's opinion that I am wrong on this. but this is what I feel. Now on to the skydiving bit...I'd love it...see ya at WFFC...I hope
