Little day dream I was just having... Complete political overthrow of the U.S. government. We get rid of everyone and put in sane, honest people (I know it'll never happen but go with it). We then announce that we are taking an indefinate coffee break from international politics. The world is turning into a bad soap opera version of itself; maybe it is time for us to exit stage left. I know this will never happen (or anything close to it) but it puts a smile on my face. _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard

bleh. I remember in high school some girl didnt get the part she wanted in a play. The parents actually threatened to sue the school. The administration forced the theater department to cast her in the role she wanted. Of course, all of her costume pieces mysteriously went missing the night of the first performance. Ain't karma a bitch. _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard

Not sure about online courses or other states, but apparently in Illinois college tuition has gone up about 350% in the last 10 years. And... apparently my generation (23 years old) is going to be the first generation in American history to be less educated than the one before it. Does that mean we all owe beer? _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard

relating to the "if im old enough to fight for my country, i should be able to drink!" ... heh... yeah.. tax dollars were actually paying for me to get drunk when I was 18. Gotta love those company dine-outs with open bars. All ya gotta do is sign on 53 dotted lines and initial in 187 places (i think they intentionally make the enlistment contract the size of "War and Peace" so you won't be tempted to actually read it). _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard

Karma's coin toss: she ends up old and alone, or with someone worse than herself Kinda hard to say which would be worse for her. She was very proud of her intellectually void social life, but at the same time felt she could decide what type of person someone deserved. Tune in next week for the exciting toss and conclusion. _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard

In my writing course, the prof explained to us that he loved fucking with people. So, if we had a jealous significant other or a grandmother with a bad heart we should put our phones on silent or turn them off because he will answer it. Although.. he did say that he will probably have to carry a cell phone because his wife is about to pop out twins, however, if we did feel like talking to her after he jumped out the window we could. _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard

I was so sad while being one of the "adults" on a school trip to Greece. We walk out of our hotel which was just outside the Plaka. To our right was a Starbucks, in front of us was a nice looking cafe. All of the kids wanted to go to the Starbucks because "it had real coffee" unlike what the cafe would sell us... good thing they didn't get to choose. _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard

Are all muslims violent brainwashed twits? Obviously no. Are all Americans materialistic pricks that only care about oil regardless of what it costs the rest of the world? Again, obviously no. However, it is the people that fit into the above groups that create conflict. Inside America we are shown angry, murderous, hate driven muslims who want nothing more than to kill every Israeli and American on earth. Outside the U.S., they see fat americans chowing down on a Big Mac driving their 12 ft tall SUVs who are apathetic to the rest of the world's problems, especially the ones we have a hand in. Obviously, this is a very narrow view of things. And, anyone who argues solely based on those groups is a fool who can't see the forest for the trees. I do not pretend to be perfect. On many occasions my emotions get the better of me and my view narrows. I speak of "them" as a whole, compromised of savages. I feel ashamed afterwards for being no better than the people I hope some day will grow emotionally and intellectually enough to see the world for what it is. When all we do is draw battle lines of our differences, we shall always be fighting a deadly war of ignorance. Democrat, Republican, Muslim, Jew, Human... The one thing I hope everyone in this thread can agree upon is that we all hope for an end to the violence on both sides. No matter who you think is correct or justified, wouldn't it be more productive to work together on solving the issues in a calm and constructive manner, than throwing veiled insults around? I believe EVERYONE can agree that the world as a whole has a very large problem right now that can not be ignored or allowed to continue as it is. I only hope that we all wake up enough and work together, instead of fighting against eachother, before it is too late. _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard

What is funny is that Dems think they are so intelligent and only they have a sense of humor. Being a centrist (aka i stopped caring) I realized that the Reps have a crazy sense of humor when I saw the White House Correspondent Association Dinner (okay.. i saw it on google video but whatever). That was f'ing hilarious. Especially the part with Bush doing his speech with the impersonator next to him doing a different version of it. _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard
