  4. Obviously, not an instructor but wanted to put my voice in. Feel free to ignore me. When doing my tandems at SDC I was given the option on the ground by my TM as to whether I wanted to "go for a ride" or "do as much as he could let me". I went for option B. I was given an altimeter and told at what altitude to wave off, and reach behind for the plastic tube. Under canopy, he gave me the toggles from fully deployed parachute to 20ft off the ground. Obviously, he gave me verbal instructions on when to turn in the landing pattern (got to fly over the hanger, that was cool). I have to say that being given that experience multiplied my enjoyment 10 fold. It also made me feel more confident in piloting the canopy when I got into AFP. Sorry for intruding. _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard

  6. Maybe another just like it, but not this one. It was copied for me by the camera flyer and erased from the camera by the DZM. I haven't let anyone copy it. Uhh... wtf? Maybe I just don't understand, but that sounds kinda sketchy. This guy get sued recently, or is he just paranoid about someone having evidence while bringing the safety of his training program into question? _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard
  7. Nothing wrong with CRTs.. except for being bulky and heavy. As for dust... Unless that thing has an advanced cooling system, you have fans sucking air into the computer. Dust is gonna get inside regardless. Just get a can of compressed air and spray out the inside occasionally (just dont tip the can, they can spray the liquid content out... liquid bad...) Having been on alot of floors installing computers, best solution I found is just putting the case ON the desk. No.. I dont have a custom built desk. Way too much effort and I have way to much other shit to take care of. Just a corner desk. I don't use extra monitors, so it provides ample room for my laptop, LCD, and box to be on the top. I definatly would not have put the case shelf hole in the damn thing. Really only served me as a foot rest/stand for sub. _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard
  8. Quick question... Just for shits and giggles I went to the apple site to see what video card they had that gave you 3 video out ports... I don't see any... Where did you get the card? _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard
  9. A) are you constructing this yourself? If so, I am a little concerned that you can't figure out the measurements yourself. B) If you really want to build a custom desk like that then grab a measuring tape. "head height" will be deteremined by the type of chair you sit in and what height you reach in it. The monitor shelf height off of the desk will also be effected by the stand holding the LCDs (I hope those are 3 LCDs on a shelf like that and not heavy ass CRTs). C) Depending on the type of LCD you may not want a shelf. Due to limited viewing angles (granted alot of advances have been made in this regard) limit the "hey that looks cool" areas to sit in front of it. Some LCDs you get even an inch below perfectly level and the colors invert. Also, the two side monitors (given their size) may be too far from center for field of view. Allow enough depth to the shelf to turn them towards you, or make a double angled shelf. D) Its your choice obviously but the "Case sticking up through the desk with a shelf holding it up" design is one of the worst things I have seen. It REALLY makes it a pain in the ass to get it in and out. I have one of those on my desk... it houses my sub-woofer. E) The length and depth of the desk is largely determined by how much room space you have and how much desk space you want. Also important to the depth is how far away can you comfortably read text on a monitor. I can't really give you exact measurements for any of that. I would suggest going to a store that sells desks with a measuring tape, paper, and pencil. Check them all out and take notes/measurements on what you like. _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard

  11. Before I continue, let me clarify my statement since I think it was too vague. The pain killer she was given was specifically be given to pregnant mothers. If you want I can ask what the specific drug was, but she did tell me that a large portion of the mothers who were given this drug, had children who suffered medical difficulty. I would have to say ALOT of bad research went into that drug. From my perspective, the reality of modern western medicine is that its just a business. Its all about the money. Just like any other business, products and procedures that havnt been properly researched/tested will be released to the general public in the interest of profit. _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard
  12. Can't say from personal experience, the 2 tandems I did at SDC were midweek. The first tandem the twin otter was empty except for me and another tandem. My second tandem it was just me and my TM on the otter... When I started doing AFP I am pretty sure the tandems were the first to get on. _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard

Kinda depends on the teacher... Some really are HORRIBLE people. But, they were that way before they got into teaching. Doesn't really matter what someone's job is, but who they are to begin with as a person. _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard
  14. Im not saying there isn't some accuracy in western medicine. However, there is a ridiculous amount of misdiagnosis in western medicine. A friend of mine's mother died from being misdiagnosed and thus mistreated. My sister was diagnosed with lung cancer, then a couple hours later after she had plenty of time to freak out about it, was informed she had pneumonia. Then a couple weeks later was told she had ovarian(sp?) cancer. She went to ALOT of doctors to get opinions on what to do with this cancer. Most just wanted to rip out all of her plumbing. 1 or 2 just wanted to take out what had been effected. This was a couple years ago. My niece turns 1 year old this month and is the most beautiful little girl I have ever seen. I'm adopted, can you guess why? Because the painkiller given to my grandmother was later found to cause severe damage in the baby. My (adopted)mother went through premature ovarian failure in high school because of it. Wait... come to think of it. I am saying there is a shitload of inaccuracy in western medicine. All the "research" if you can call it that done by western medicine is only accurate until a couple years down the line when it learns it fucked up. But before the realization of fucked upedness hits, people have already suffered, and even died as a direct result of it. Obviously, these experiences are not the norm. But, where does the medical community draw the line for acceptable levels of bad doctors using bad research that harm and kill patients? _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard
  15. Friend of mine had a beautiful baby girl. Unfortunatly, she was very ill. Doctor after doctor had no idea what was wrong with her. The last doctor wanted to do exploratory surgery on an infant. Wanting to avoid that they took her to see a natural medicine "doctor". Naturalist tells them she is lactose intolerant. Changed her diet, all better. Yep... credentials bring you sooo much. _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard

  19. Door: Holy shit Freefall: Sweet jesus I never want to be on the ground again Pulltime: This might be a good time to start believing in god landing approach: why don't i hear anything coming out of the radio... okay.. okay.. just remember the turn altitudes they told me for landing. On final: shit... when do i flare?!? Ended up flaring a little late, pulled my legs up... bounced off my ass and landed on my feet. Instructor tried to repair my backside pride by complimenting my first stand up landing.... _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard
  20. gotta love how 3/4 of the pictures are professional photos. either they are all performers (headshots needed for auditions) or like so many on the internet, they are stolen pictures. _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard

  22. Yes, I fully understand that there are always going to be persons who believe in something no matter how ridiculous. I will attempt in the future to avoid sardonic responses since you seemed to miss it. When directly addressing parts of someone's message it will tend to come out narrow, unless you want to spend 3 hours addressing every aspect of every issue. Your first point is a little broad, destroying enemy military installations with NBC weaponry could easily be considered 'unlawful use of force and violence' but not necessarily terrorism. There are however plenty of ways to destroy a military installation with a reasonable amount of force. What is reasonable is of course open for debate. As for the USS Cole "or unpredictable actions in unpredictable places, like the attack on the Cole in Aden." Kind of a toss up on that one. But speaking hypothetically, if two airforce jocks flew into another countries air space without orders and destroyed a military installation then they would rightfully be charged with murder and various other crimes. Not sure if you feel that addressed your point but its the best I can do at 1:30am. Moving on. I would easily accept that violent action against a target belonging to a military that is not currently posing a threat to yourself, your group, or your country is a terrorist action. This however, does not apply to British targets during the revolutionairy war, as they posed a clear and present danger. Sorry if that was confusing, mid rant I addressed another poster's comments regarding American willingness to engage in open field warfare with the British. I will try to leave more footnotes if that will help you. Don't worry. You would need a much larger vocabulary to construct a post that I would not understand. And yes, we are getting back to the main point in that I believe there is a distinct line between military warfare and terrorism and you disagree. If the point were simply to press a political idea through death but regardless of body count then it would be far simpler to just knife someone. However, it is apparent that the actual point is to press a political idea with the highest body count possible thus making a larger statement. You must be as tired as I am. Obviously, not every murder is an act of terrorism. However, an act of terrorism where at least 1 person dies is murder. Regardless of the target, strapping a bomb to a child and using him/her as a weapon is murder. As for women with bombs attacking military targets, well that is unconventional warfare. It isn't pretty, and I don't have to like it being done, but I don't believe it qualifies as terrorism. As for attacking a bar, I will admit that it is kind of both. The soldiers being there makes the location a target of opportunity. If the only persons in the bar are soldiers, then it is warfare. If there are also civilians in the bar then it becomes a bit of both as it has two effects. 1. It kills soldiers. Warfare. 2. It kills civilians, effecting their decisions regarding the (war, violence, however you want to characterize it) around them. Anything else? _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard

  24. i always thought intentionally targetting civilians as "unlawful use of force and violence"... But... if I am the only person in the world who believes specifically attacking civilian populations is without question an act of terrorism then I will just sit here and be crazy because there is no way in HELL I will ever see it as anything else. And there are people who think aliens killed JFK, whats your point? _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard
  25. Yay for education time. A) We had plenty of soldiers using the traditional open field warfare. B) I can only assume you are referring to the swamp foxes as "revolutionairy war terrorists". Refering to A) Open field warfare against the British was suicide. The Brits didn't lose at open field. Refering to B) The most obvious problem with your reasoning is that you are ignoring what targets these men were attacking. When you have a combination of guerilla warfare tactics learned during the French/Indian war, clothing that consisted primarily of dark colors (blacks, browns, greens), and rifle bored weapons designed for hunting you become quite lethal in non-conventional warfare. In war you would be an idiot not to use your strenghts angainst the enemies weaknesses. Its how you win. Unconventional Warfare is an accepted practice (current specialty of US Army Special Forces). You need to learn the difference between war and murder. In the revolutionairy war when British supply depots, supply ships, etc were intentionally targetted, that is tactics. Now.. if these men had gotten themselves on a ship, went to the UK, and started killing civilians left and right THEN they would be terrorists. soldier vs soldier = war anything vs civilian = murder May I educate you on any other topics? Plenty of books here to refer to as I work at a K-12 private school. P.S. Before you reply, read my sig line. _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard
