  4. way to go Jon.....and congratulations on accomplishing 12 hours of freefall !!!!! it is NO small feat.... i have followed with interest, over the years,,, your sentiments regarding folks who began jumping decades ago.... who share the same love and longing for the sport as any 10,000 jump Enthusiast.... who survived and hung in there all these years... despite some jumpers and DZs who might have snickered, at "old gear", or who scratched their heads, if you indicated that your reserve was Round...... Your A license, your adherance to the BSRs and your steadfast pursuit of that milestone is to be admired..... and I do..... good job...
  5. YMMV In Texas an act that results in a significant inconvenience is considered criminal mischief and is a crime. very well ,,, then i stand corrected..... my reply is mostly meant in jest, and as an indication of having been aggravated by the careless woman... however when an Officer of the Law tells me otherwise... then, I DO listen....thanks A D. ps.. i don't know what YMMV means....please explain jt
  6. only met him once and he was kind, and welcoming and attentive to the one or two requests which i or my friends , may have had... when i think of an orange and blue and white jumpsuit.... i'll be seeing Gary Pond wearing it.... jmytavino
  7. release 3/4 of the air from 2 or 3 of her tires and then replace the valve stem caps...pancake the tires,, but don't put the rims to the ground... she'll get the idea that someone was "disappointed in her behavior"...... no tangible harm is done to her property, air is free..... her tires are still sound,,, nothing is 'damaged'.... do it and leave..... sure as hell she doesn't have more than one spare.. if she's foolish enough to drive away on the near flats... then SHE will be the one to cause damage to her own vehicle..... if YOU wanted to do that,,, it would be OK with me.... Of course I would NEVER do such a thing.....
  8. we launched a 4 way with 2 hangars for a hybrid base,, from a CASA...YES it WAS crowded at the door.... One guy had his legstrap catch on some sorta chunk of hardware, on the inside wall of the cabin.. so the base tumbled... i tossed the grips, which i was holding,,, but the person on my right did not...when we both "flipped & flopped" , my shoulder gripper in his left hand,,,, I could feel the right shoulder dislocate... it was the weirdest thing EVER... I could have sworn that i was pressing both my arms, down and out, to recover and "float back up " to where most of the jumpers were.... But when i looked to my right.. my hand and arm were flailing around,,, waaay above my head... It felt like i had THREE arms....cause my brain was telling me that my right hand was DOWN.... yet there it was, waaay over my head "waving at God" At least i had altitude on my side....and in about 5 seconds, i figured out was was happening...I TRIED tiwce to get my hand down near my hackey,, in preparation for my pull.... but could NOT... I am not all that flexible, and i jump a sizable rig,,, so there was NO way.. i could get to the main ,,,, left handed,,,, Not sure that i'd suggest doing that... though for SOME,, it might work... Knew quickly that i'd be pulling my reserve, but resisted doing it immediately.... instead i waited til 3 - five or so.. waved with my left arm, and pulled my reserve with it... the right arm was limp and hanging and it Hurt....( the ball of the humerus was laying against my ribcage..) I did fly a left hand pattern,,, and was grateful that my reserve was a 225... I did NOT have the presence of mind to flare BOTH toggles with my left hand,,,,,,, and instead did a 'semi-flare' with the left, and had a very tolerable ( though less than graceful ) landing.... friends were on me, right away and Tom Spoon drove me to the hospital. My pal, Brian L followed and hung in there with me til i got released... It was july and about 88 degrees,,, and yet,, within 10 minutes,, I was freezing cold,,,, as shock set it.... An Angel of an orthopedic doctor,,, in the E R . re-set the arm. She took a bed sheet,, slid one end UNDER my back ( i was laying on my back, on the gurney) and had two nurses hold onto it,,,, wrapped the other end around her own waist,,,, TIED the corner of it to my right wrist,,, and then with the nurses anchoring the sheet,,,she used her arms, and her hips to yank the arm back into place.. I cooperated by "going with the flow" rather than resisting, and together we popped it back in.... WHAT a surge of relief.... it took about 8 weeks, but i was back in the air by september of that same year.... so it SURE does happen.... my suggestions would be,, to maintain altitude awareness and resist the urge to dump the reserve immediately.... doing so, could result in 'blowing away' if it's a breezy day.... and suffering an off field landing,, ON TOP of an injury.. would be a BAD thing... If possible , pull around 3 grand,,, so that you don't risk a collision with others in the group, who may not know that you're hurt and who would NOT be expecting a deployment.... do your absolute best to land ON the DZ and anticipate 'going into shock', and ask to be covered, with a blanket, or a coat, or both.... a good friend got after my freebag immediately, and recovered it near the runway... so, maintain your composure,,, be NOT afraid to deploy the reserve, and as long as you don't feel like you're "blacking out" do it at sensbile altitude...I was cypres-equipped....and was wearing two video cameras and a still... I had NEVER considered such an occurence, and was caught by surprise.... which could be why i did not think to flare both toggles at once..... Discussions such as these,,, could help to prepare others, who could find themselves in such a situation. Good question.. Good discussion jmy A 3914 D 12122 nscr 1817 POPS 3935
  9. yes..... we get the local Paper every day... a real Live Person.!!! Sat. includes the real estate section and sundays, the store coupons and flyers AND the Funnies... My favorite in the comics section varies,,, I like Shoe.... I like Pickles,,, and Lately i have been into Prince Valiant!!!... IG rocks.....! what i really MISS however, is the pure genious and the hilarity of Gary Larsons' The Far Side....Brilliant and often,,,hysterical... i'll also buy the NY Daily News, or the NY Post,, ( both are sorta " Rags" !! ) , if i'm at a store and there are any left in the newsrack... The USA today, is a good read as well,, I always get a copy when I'm on vacation... to read, in the lobby, or during breakfast...\ On Line????? I get all the ON -Line news i need,,, right here at DZ dot com..!!! jmy
  10. of course not..... and my kids are grown-ups...... I wouldn't even let someone elses' kids dance like that...... the adults, who are encouraging it, and taking pictures... need a 2 x 4 against the back of their heads... iodiocy is contagious... WHERE was that footage taken???? is this part of the assinine educational concept, of "no child left behind"???? i'm disgusted... jt

  12. As for having kids, I hate the little shits, can't stand them. What's more annoying is when work colleges insist on showing/bringing their kids into work. ......i resisted replying right away,,,, to this thread.... since i wanted to see what the responses might be like..... upon reading the above quote.... it makes me wish that Boris73's folks,,,,, felt the way boris does.... sure ,,, if you don't want kids DON'T have them.!!!!...... but as for reffering to them as "little shits", and proclaiming HATRED for them.... that just shows you , to be quite like, an ignorant fool.... OF course,,,,, creating a PERSON.... is not to be taken lightly,,, it is all at once a noble, a difficult and an uncertain undertaking.... It HUGELY changes your life, and sometimes NOT for the better..... I AM a Father...... I AM in the position to discuss the matter, AND back it up with REAL experiences.... It is a privledge and a plague.. It is a reward and a punishment.. It makes you happy beyond measure and it makes you sad to the deepest depths... It is Lifes true paradox, and conundrum.... It takes all that would otherwise only be Yours and your S. O. ,,,,, free time , energy, patience, savings, recreational disposable income, and emotions.... it is the double edge sword..... and in this day and age, with the world in chaos, and with uncertainty alllll around.... it is a subject, not to be taken lightly...... My children are now adults....both mid 20's, both happy healthy and well adjusted...both college educated and both quite mannerly...... I am PROUD of them....regardless of the criticism that i hear from folks and friends whom i know,,,,, who ALL seem to know ALLL about it,,, even if THEY themselves, have never been down that road... People who are without kids , can have any opinion about it that they want,,, BUT they need to stop short of expressing distain,,, to people like Me,,,, who ARE with kids.....THAT is just common courtesy... How dare someone tell Me, that it is 'wrong', or ' socially damaging', or 'unnecessary' to have children..... without firsthand knowledge of the subject.... Screw THEM.... one and all..... It's akin to a whuffo teaching a F J C ....ya know??? to each his own, and if i entered the "way-back machine" and sent myself back to 1980, i too might choose the 'non-parent ' route....or i might NOT. it's a personal choice and there are many MANY people who are woefully inadequate of the character traits needed to be a Parent..... Hell some can't even take care of themselves,,, without running to Mommy or Daddy, asking for help ( usually financial) every 2 weeks.. Those types should follow their own instincts, but should also be SURE , not to apply their prejudices to the general population....belittleing couples who HAVE chosen to be parents... Our kids were a gift to us... and came only AFTER, we established a proper base, consisiting of a Man and a Woman, whose love was/is true... who worked hard to earn and own a proper HOUSE!!!!! in a decent community, who labored long and hard at Gainfull EMPLOYMENT,,, and who set the stage to begin and grow a Family..... That was then... however,, and THIS is NOW>>>> and i too agree with the thought that a person can be plenty happy, plenty fulfilled, and quite content... without Kids.... The world is a mess. and anyone who would casually create life, to bring into this mess....needs to think long and hard about it.... times change, and what worked fine, in the 40s , 50s and 60s,, ( i.e. families with LOTS of kids) may not work so well, now.... common sense, abstinance, birth control can go a long way, to eliminating 'unplanned' children.... "accidents", 'mistakes' and/ or alcohol/drug induced behavior which results in new life.... is NOT the way to go.. jmy A 3914 POPS 3935 USPA # 9452

    Jokes

so this Woman rushes into the house, and yells Up the stairs,,,,, " i've won the lottery!!! pack the bags!" a mans excited voice, hollars down, "Should I pack for the mountains, or pack for the beach"??? She replies... " I don't Care !!! just GET OUT!">>>>>>
  14. 'off the ground' shot 'in the air ' shot. does "In the aircraft".... meet the criteria???? lots of fun and interesting photos have been taken "while in the plane"... just wondering.... jt
  15. yup.... sure IS a good procedure....just as davelepka points out,, further upstream here in this thread.... he ALSO mentions the sometimes NOt understood concept.... of "keeping track of ALL the members of Your skydive".. i've videoed plenty of fun jumps, from 4 ways to 16 ways.. where for one reason or another.... People are OUT!!!! of the dive.. sometimes within the first 15 seconds from exit.... THose are the dives,, where the camera person must be especially vigilant..... and MUST be on top of things....( literally AND figuratively ) Attending the dirt dive is a must, to learn the size and shape of the dive, and to SEE who the participants may be... If there are "unknowns",,, be extra careful.... If there are jumpers with whom you are familiar,,, then KNOW,, who might go low,, KNOW who might 'over dive'. and KNOW who is likely to 'be there"... know who the fast fallers are, and know who the floaty ones are...... beware!!! of the quick "pick-up " video slots... arranged, at boarding,,,,and KNOW what the plan will be When ever a formation is Incomplete,,, THAT'S the time to be on your toes.... Use the process of elimination, to assess when there might be people floundering around a building dive, unable to dock on it... If you're videoing with wings,,,,it's good to work your way to the top side of most all skydives.... and as others point out,,, 'get the hell outta Dodge,,,' sooner, rather than later...when seperation begins... let fly your pilot chute, as soon as the dive finishes, and people start leaving.. The center might be " yours"... but hanging around there,, and pulling low,, is dangerous for everyone..and serve no useful purpose. jmy a 3914 d 12122 36 hr. ff # 1281
  16. so then..... lemme see if i have this "Right" ??? you have two calipers.... one is right.... (the right side one, ) and the one which is Left,,, (the wrong side one ) is ALSO a right...!!!!???? Right?????.... right !!! They ARE bastards!!!! confound them!!! and confound YOU too, Squeak!!! ( NOT to be construed as a P A > )
  17. so then by sending you "right side calipers" they were actually sending you "wrong side calipers"..... damn..... jmy
  18. " my walk , was right in the way of their getaway path," Pretty lousey criminals then,,,,, since they didn't run over your ass.... what's a little collateral damage,,, ( You,,, wiped out on the pavement,,,) to some big time smash and dash types.... see if there might be a reward...... MAYBE a brand bew toothbrush,,, to go along with the paste... OUR KMart shut down a few years ago..... must have been too much thieving going on THERE!!!!!... j
  19. sometimes, regardless of our age,,, we can all use, a little "growing up"... but in fairness to skittlesofSDC he only mentions the idea, in the context of the improving trends we see regarding Equality. if it's all supposed to be a level playing field, then why isn't ANYthing, allowed...??? still sorta stumped,,, cause i guess it means he approves of smacking a GUY in the chops .... should the need arise..... \though as mcswervey points out,,, if the glare of the eye, and the use of words fails to get the right results, then other measures may be considered.. men fighting men seems to be in our genes and men fighting women may also be there...... But in a decent and civil community and society.. ( which we are supposed to be trying to create),,,, a Man should never hit a women it's about as basic , as it gets... j o[:-)
  20. Legal equality is not the same as ethical or physical or emotional equality....... in some cases men and women ARE equal, but in many cases,,,, ( at least in MY book, ) women are MORE equal... hahaha in other words,,,, certain simple courtesies should ALWAYS be extended to women BY men,,,, (and also, i suppose vice versa...)( though the courtesies are sometimes not the same ) I think that you and i are from different generations skittles,, But FLASH!!!!!.... "you Never hit a girl ".... period.. EVEN the ones who YOU may think "are Bitches"... equality in legal matters, the work place, certain social situations, and ESPECIALLY at the DZ.... are important and necessary.. But men and women ARE different and sometimes should be treated as such... It's called Chivalry... and it's not dead... it's trying to get shoved aside, by the current generation, but as long as there are still SOME old school types around,,, it's hanging in there.... i know that your post is merely meant to start a discussion of the subject, and that you'd never resort to what you propose........ however if it were to happen..... you'd be demonstrating that Men are the Lesser important sex....and rank below women on the "let's all get along " scale. sure sure. in fairness, there MAY be alot of girls/women,,, who feel it's OK to hit a man, to slap a man, to lash out when angry.... but an even-handed review of THAT behavior ... should also show it to be Unacceptable.... The abilty to resist physical retaliation, to avoid 'knee-jerk' like responses, and to control ones behavior is all we have left, in maintaining a healthy attitude toward one another.. male AND female.... jmy a 3914 d 12122 jt

  22. seems to be a show with reenactments of various 'adventures' that this REPO outfit in California has experienced... I think they used weird and interesting events for their story lines, but the over acting is evident....,,,, Both on the part of the repo crew , and whomever is portraying the repossessee.... Man those folks are NEVER happy to see the towing hook, swing up out of the bed of a nondescript Pick up truck....(seems to be set up on hydraulics, so that the crew can cruise the streets looking for their "prey" without being toooo obvious...) They always have legitimate paperwork, authorizing the Repo... But when the "taking" ensues!! the fireworks can start.. People get mean, belligerent, abusive and Often Physical , in defense of the machine they "own" but for which they haven't been "paying"... seldom will the 'owner' simply hand over the ignition key... Rather, they bust beer bottles and go after the crew,,pull knives or guns, or they scream and hollar, and raise a ruckus...One guy was selling sledge hammer hits!!!!! on the soon to be repo'ed truck, for 5 bucks each.. to passers-by!!! another who is a landscaper spraying insecticide, hits the Guys, in the eyes,, with his sprayer!!! (then the pepper spraying follows) when they try to grab his van... and another pours gasoline into the front seat of his pick up and tosses in a cigarette!!! hahahaha.. They repo a bunch of different cars, ATVs. motorcycles and even grabbed a Citation Jet... interesting and different... Disclaimer.....This thread in NO way serves as an endorsement of this show......but goes to show the wild and idiodic things that make it to our airways and cable tv stations.. ....isn't ANYbody in charge ???? around here!!????? jmy
