The video should not be covered up or explained away with more falsehoods, sends the wrong message. We should breath easy she is safe on the ground and use this as an example and teaching moment. There are many lessons to learn here. Starting with Work Environment, they got lucky it was not a fatality like Ohio's. Matt agree. in fact if this video had been seen shortly after it happened instead of well after... maybe the person who fell from an "ultra-lite" not long ago, might have been saved... the lesson Has to be Harnesses Matter

Getting the drouge in the shot " help "
jimmytavino replied to spencer's topic in Photography and Video
a shot of the drogue certainly helps tell the story and often the tandem pair is highlighted with the drogue waaay above them... Better, however is a point in the skydive where the video person USES those wings and run UP 10 feet or so, to grab a NICE shot of the drogue . Certainly stay well away. but go ahead.. get up, on level with it...... Stay for 3 seconds, Then drop back down to the happy tandem. Try to do it while the TM may be doing turns... It adds to the video and also demonstrates the abilities of the 'camera'.. Of course you need to get all the First priority shots...exit, close up, big smiles, deployment etc. and so the extra step that i suggest may not be sensible on cessna jumps... But, if you're getting 13 Five or 14 grand.. it is a nice shot.... and worth dirt diving with the TM about before boarding....The full frame shot of the dancing drogue.... is a nice visual -
Oh My God!!!!! there was MAYBE a 3 chances outta TEN , likelihood of that event finishing off... safely... very relieved for the TM.. that he got her safely to the ground.. MY pulse is racing,, i bet the same for the video person and the TM... yikes.... NOT everybody who "thinks" they wanna skydive... SHOULD skydive..imho jt

What do you consider a successful jump?
jimmytavino replied to Southern_Man's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Agreed...100% but to add..... the objectives were accomplished because of , "one of those every so often" Extra Altitude Jump Runs hello Dean358!!! -
with the G O P and the Dems this year offering only a So- So candidate, any chance that it could leave the door open for a 3rd party Independent.???? Every 4 years, @ election time the general public gets all "excited and energized with anticipation" ... HOPING against all real common sense..... that "things will get better. everyone will be Ok. prosperity for all, is just around the corner"... and then time and time again all those best , optimistic wishes.. get Dashed into the dirt. and things do NOt improve... and do NOT get better..... we can only get kicked in the teeth so many times,, before despair, disheartenment and desperation FINALLY overwhelm us. Many are at that point, already. You can only "keep the wolves from the door" for so long...... Why are we always ONLY offered Politicians !!! as presidential candidates??? while as mentioned earlier in this thread.. REAL brilliant Minds and fantastic people NEVER ascend to the national ballot, when election day rolls around???? i dunno... Scientists, economists, engineers, Teachers,,, they ALL likely would have the Better perspective on Many of the issues we face, than have lawyers, Congressmen, Senators etc.... I've been very disappointed by both Parties, in the past 3 or 4 decades. All fluff and No substance..... each of them more concerned about 'appearance and headlines' than they are about Accomplishing Anything for the People of this Country !! they should be Ashamed of themselves... i know i am... and I'm generally pretty upbeat and optimistic......only Now ,,, Reality has beaten me Down...

creepy picture can't understand the need to have the Mom standing AND the kid on a kindergartners chair, Standing.... there was toooo much of a "defiant attitude" expressed in that photo... while i Do endorse such natural behavior, in a calm , seated, demure way.... once the kid is tying his own shoes !!!!! for crying out Loud !!! i'd say enough is enough... or as my Wife put it,,, " the First time he BIT my nipple,,, he'd be weaned " !!!!

Longmont City Council will take up skydiving noise
jimmytavino replied to stratostar's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
not sure about "Stupid"....... but certainly not real wise.. the last thing you should do , once you've identified a hornets nest.... is to go over and bang on it with a stick.... that tends to piss OFF the hornets....... ya' Know????? here is hoping, that the DZ can reach a sensible conclusion , to this issue. -
... not planning to Vote for Either of them..... everyone has behaviors and activities from their past, of which they can't be proud.. stupidity is an equal opportunity activity... R P in 2012... please. GOD... some how or another... R P in 2012.. just sayin'.... jmy

thanks. it got MY attention....... i'll never forget that video shot, looking through a chain link fence, as that jet touched down.... guardian angels were working Overtime,, that day. sad for those who perished, but impressed with the calm and confidence of the flight crew. heros, sometimes have a way of turning Up .. just when they are needed j

no. rsl.......no camera people DO have the benefit of being able to Pull...at a greater altitude than most. Tandem or AFF.. especially if late in the exit order, we'll be opening higher, just to "get back", and once the dive is over...i'm deploying..

i've been following this thread in order to learn for Myself.. where those more affiliated with the sport than i am, think we will be. Damn the cost of fuel. If someone could invent an aircraft engine that ran on Enthusiam, Good Vibes, and Smiles.. Many DZs would buy one, in an instant....and that jumpship would be workin' ALLLL day long. but with todays gas prices, hell, even the drive to the dropzone can add up.... I'm ok, with buying lift tickets and the amount of the money i may have spent all these years is insignificant compared to the Joy it has given me... i might dare say, that like many Skydivers. i have used the "need for jump $ " as a true incentive to work a little harder...take on that extra job, and cut corners in a sensible way, in other areas. only,,,, It would just be nice, if a 100 dollar bill... could buy as many jumps as it USED to. The future??? hopefully, continuing emphasis on safety, canopy flight, gear advances and sharing of knowledge... For many who have chosen skydiving for their livelihood i wish the best. For those who have just now or only recently ( the last 10 years or so ) found this wonderful sport..... i trust that the NEW energy which They bring, will carry us on for decades..... when making a true assessment about jumping... (and factoring in some aches and pains,) and reading a fair bit about some uncertainty, and increasing FAA scrutiny and general nervousness about airports and their funding..(concentrating $$$ for fences...and Control towers ) i'm thinking, that for me, personally, the "Future of Skydiving" , was over 30 years AGO!!!!!!!!!... pre swooping.... pre tandem.. pre freefly and pre pro packing !! and we flew just as many loads THEN...... as we do now . Even had circuit Meets.. 4 or 5 times a year.....!!! jmy a 3914 d 12122

BEST 5 minutes, i've spent, so far today...... glad i got OFF those T-10s real quick......almost 4 decades ago !!! AND that i never had to jump 'em with full pack/military gear, under REAL rough conditions... happy for this man.. that he HAS prevailed..... and wish him continued successes thanks for the video.

Re : " Pretty advanced stuff, for a kids magazine"...... actually , it's more like "pretty juvenile stuff for a grown-ups magazine..." i've been reading it since the 60s' the best part???? all those little doodles in the margins... love the parodies and the amazing rate at which the writers can turn out original stuff......month after month... What?? me worry?????

What did we all think of the White House Corespondents' Dinner?
jimmytavino replied to quade's topic in Speakers Corner
I Never really like it when ANy president " attempts to rub shoulders with the regular folks". It demeans His Position, and since we all know that very Few Presidents have what it takes to do Stand -Up, it mocks the audience by almost requiring snickers and applause.... NOTHING funny about what is going on in this World,,, and Yucking it up with the common folks... just doesn't seem appropriate IMHO... Now on the Other hand,,,,, Jimmy Kimmels comments about his H. S. Teacher ( Mister Mills) who claimed that he would "never amount to anything" was pretty good... " Well NOW i"m gonna High Five the P O T U S . very creative concept... But the icing on the cake was when Kimmel finishes with "Eat It, Mills" ! disclaimer. Did Not schedule MY social agenda around the White House doings... BUt i did see a video of it the next day. !!! jt -
"accidents occur,,,,, and that's hopefully what happened".. what a terrible choice of words damn.

looks like the reserve Pilot Chute was OUT ( 1:25 mark ) and THEN the cutaway... seemed like the main was inflated.. but maybe had line twists.. hairy scarey talk about Close..... -
good question. all children would benefit ( and so would parents) if they could be blessed with a Full Time person to BE there for them during the crucial early years. It's quite sad, when each day has to begin with a harried parent or parentS dragging the kid(s) out of a warm bed to bundle them up and take them to day care... To bad that , that is often the only choice that some people have.... Working is a necessary Evil in this world, since so much of our lives is economically driven... When there is only One parent, they may have little choice. With two parents ( who KNOW how to work as a team ) the option for one to remain At Home is easier to excersize... A "stay at home parent" should NEVER be looked at as a "non working parent"... the demands are Huge, but so are the benefits to the kid(s) . Having the constant, of a loving Mom OR dad, to be there, can instill in the Child a great sense of security. Familiar surroundings at a place where they can be nurtured, taught, HELD and loved... cannot be equalled, even by the Hard working folks who tend to the children of others,,,, @ a Day Care location... While they may have all the best intentions,, there can simply be toooo many kids, for too few care givers....The stress in some such places can become unhealthy for all.. The key is to live within ones means, when the kids are little... If that means NO new car every 3 or 4 years.... then so be it. if it means 1 car payment instead of 2, or better yet NO car payment, so BE it. If it means less "going Out" and more "creative thinking" when making expenditures, so be it. Living cheaply, in financial terms can reap rich rewards emotionally, if it allows for Mom to be with the kids during the day... IF need be, it sure is fortunate to have a grand parent or TWO who are willing to help out, once in a while . When kids reach school age,, THEN the stay at home parent, can either Breathe a little easier once they get on the bus, or can if so desired, seek employment, perhaps part time. It is crucial, imho, to have SOMEone at home, when the kids get OFF the school bus, if for no other reason than to give that child a Hug...and better yet. to debrief the day, share a healthy snack, or OMG!! get the homework Done!!! If ya' gotta have the big house,, two fine autos, vacations multiple times a year, and extravegant outings a few times a month... best to have inherited a ton of $$$$$ of else have a fine and lucrative Job..... but if such a lifestyle limits the childrens time with MOM and DAD..... then a reconsideration of priorities might be better.... we lived poor,, when the kids were little, but not so poor as to be in debt, or forced to "do without". Mom was able to stop working for the 5 or 6 years when the kids were pre-school, and THAT my friends, was a Good thing... your mileage may vary.
