It was my impression that students are taught to cut away something that isn't "landable" so that they won't have to make the decision when they are in the situation. They should know before they go up what they would do in a certain situation so that there is no time wasted questioning. I guess my point is this way of teaching may not be related to the reliability of the reserve at all but more the decision making abilitites of the student. (however, I am not an istructor so my impression may be incorrect)

Buying a parachute
RedassSkychic replied to Belgian_Skygirl's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
QuoteHi fellow Skydivers, Now, I just want to know your opinions and I guess I will do what the majority would do... Quote Its good to weigh other's advice, but be sure to buy what you feel comfortable with. In the end, you are responsible for yourself. Try different sizes and buy what you would be comfortable with, then jump with the winds you feel safe with. That said, there is also a 135 sqft size that would be about a .9 wingloading for you, you might try that. good luck -
I'm the outside center!! Kyle's the one with his foot in Sarah's face. (don't think I dont know you're making fun of my picture... better watch your back now)

I am not a rigger, but I just tried out my Smart 120 (loaded at 1.2:1.0) on saturday. I had a terminal opening and it was beutifull. It flew great and flared nice... the toggle stroke is a little longer than my PD canopy, but not a problem.

I've seen a packing class done that charged a minimal fee, and I feel it was worth the student's money. A packer (supervised by a rigger) spent three to four hours in the morning teaching the student how to pack and then stayed with them the rest of the day as they practice. That person also helped out the student throughout the week or month or however long it took the student to get it down. The students learned to pack and remembered it rather than just getting the general information. I dont feel you can ask someone to spend this kind of quality time with a student for free.

Something to remember: when you're unconcious your body will be relaxed and less likely to be injured. -
Why skydivers are great! (the story of the lost ring)
RedassSkychic replied to AggieDave's topic in The Bonfire
I was pretty sick when I walked into manifest and was very suprised to find that someone had turned in my ring. It is amazing to think what a great family we have in skydiving that someone would be that giving. Thanks to everyone who helped me look for it and to Mary for helping us thank the guy who turned it in. Morgan -
Skyfest was awesome! Thanks to everyone for taking care of me on those pink patch dives, I had so much fun and learned alot. It was great to meet so many wonderful women. Unfortunately I wasnt able to do a pink mafia dive :( but my boogie endurance is not yet built up and I was pretty beat by the time Sunday morning rolled around. Can't wait to be initiated next chance I get! Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the scholarship fund, this award will help me finish SDU. Great to meet everyone and I look forward to seeing yall again. Morgan

How many jumps before you had a reserve ride?
RedassSkychic replied to SarahC07's topic in The Bonfire
Hard to beat a ride on your second tandem! I had my first reserve ride on my 6th jump, my 3rd solo. -

Dz.com is great to surf on in your engineering classes. I figure since I'm paying $75 per class to have a laptop at every desk I might as well use it. Ha! nothing like getting your money's worth. Damn, apparently I'm 50% gay. Should I be concerned? wait, does that make me bisexual? I had no idea. "If toast always lands butter-side down, and cats always land on their feet, what happens if you strap toast on the back of a cat and drop it?" --Steven Wright

those choices suck! I like string bikinis, and that's all I wear. "If toast always lands butter-side down, and cats always land on their feet, what happens if you strap toast on the back of a cat and drop it?" --Steven Wright

I would not compare SkyVenture to Adren-L-N. The tunnel as well as the instruction in Orlando are a hundred times better than the port-a-tunnel in Conroe. If you are spending the money to fly this far south you might as well go to Orlando, the expense will not be that much more. Your weight is on your driver's license? I guess in Texas they realize that its never gonna be right because we don't even have it on there.hmm. Sorry to be so long on the reply, but AggieDave's been hogging his computer the last coupla days... It was great to meet you Jaye! looking forward to seeing you back in Texas sometime soon. and yes, AggieDave is dead sexy no matter what perky77 says "If toast always lands butter-side down, and cats always land on their feet, what happens if you strap toast on the back of a cat and drop it?" --Steven Wright

It's a shame that the law requires you to be age 21. You dont have to be 21 to own a gun, only to conceal carry it. For me, there's no purpose in having one because I dont hunt or shoot for recreation.
