  1. I know you'll want to block on a technicality but the first Gulf War worked out pretty well. Not if you prescribe to the notion that version 2 happened because version 1 wasn't handled properly. You might prescribe to that notion. I think it was handled extremely well and accomplished it's goals...right up to the point where we promised to support the Kurds and left them swinging. My only problem with GW1 was the ease with which we were able to complete the mission. I said then that people are going to think it will always be this easy and that would be a dangerous assumption. Well... If you believe (and you do) that Saddam had an active and successful WMD program up to the start of Gulf2 and was giving WMD to nearby rogue states then surely the Gulf1 'mission' was fatally flawed from the start? 2. Well, I think you missed the main argument that's used... unless you phrase it as "I don't want to have to feel bad when it turns out an executed person wasn't guilty" Do you want to have an ideagasm?
  3. Right where? Attached is what I'm looking at, what are you looking at? Do you want to have an ideagasm?
  4. Ok, so then you do agree with me, and you don't think that being busted for assaulting non-criminals will make the police less likely to make the effort to catch real criminals? Where do you get 30k from that link? From what it tells me you're going in the wrong direction. Do you want to have an ideagasm?
  5. Ok, so you still don't think it's a good thing for cops to stop and think about whether they're allowed to assault people over 'bullshit little laws' that they're not even sure exist? Yes, I did ask you to show me where in that link you got the 35k figure. From what I can see under national entry level average you are out by about 20% What were you looking at? Do you want to have an ideagasm?
  6. No, I said follow the specific links from the specific story in the OP. That way there's no room for confusion or misinterpretation with people looking at random different stuff. I also did not say I had shown anything when I clearly hadn't. Oh, and talking of misinterpretation, where in that link does it say the average starting cop salary is $35k? I see something quite different. And again, do you want to amend any of your statements from our earlier conversation now that you know what it was we were talking about, or do you accept that I was right all along? Just wondering. Do you want to have an ideagasm?
  7. Yeah but seriously, photo's from 40 years ago in Kabul (a cosmopolitan city) in no way reflects the society then in the boonies of Afghanistan (a tribal, warlord infested backwater). Do you want to have an ideagasm?
  8. Shown? Where? BTW, anything further to our conversation? Did you want to amend any statements since you lost track of what we were talking about to begin with? Do you want to have an ideagasm?
  9. Uh, no, our discussion is a direct result of that comment. The only reason we're having a discussion is because I replied specifically to that comment. Maybe you want to go back and re-evaluate your responses in that context. Do you want to have an ideagasm?
  10. So what relevance does some 'little BS law about tint' really have with your original comment about cops being afraid to use force while catching criminals? I think if a cop stops and thinks about whether he's allowed to physically assault someone over window tint instead of just going ahead and doing it, that is on balance a good thing. Do you want to have an ideagasm?
  11. Your fooling yourself if you think that strawman isn't obvious. Once again, since you obviously just missed it, it's not about knowing everything, it's about knowing the regulations regarding interactions they have with the public every day. Honestly, knowing what you can demand of someone who isn't subject to reasonable suspicion is a pretty fucking fundamental part of being a street cop, IMO. Do you want to have an ideagasm?
  12. Sure, thousands upon thousands of laws the majority of which a beat cop will never be anywhere near the investigation or enforcement of. Stopping citizens, asking questions and demanding information is something they do every day - and knowing what their powers are in those situations is a fundamental requirement for being able to do their jobs. Is it your job to know that? Do you want to have an ideagasm?
  13. To be fair, I think that making sure cops know what is and is not crime, and what authority they do and do not have will only help both situations, don't you? Do you want to have an ideagasm?
  14. Good for her. Just curious, how long did it take you to find that and then find my post to reply to? It's not exactly a shock that a Student's Union officer is an immature imbecile. The worrying bit is here "A Goldsmiths Student Union spokesman said: "Following action taken during the occupation of a university building last month, 165 students signed a petition calling for a vote of no confidence in welfare and diversity officer Bahar Mustafa...... A separate petition on change.org to remove Ms Mustafa from office has received more than 21,000 signatures." So, either the only people who cared were people who aren't affected, or the people affected do care they just have no idea what mechanisms exist to hold their representatives accountable. Apathy or ignorance - like a really depressing Hobson's Choice. Do you want to have an ideagasm?
  15. Yeah, just like those cops were standing up against a guy who opened his door and now they're the ones taking the flak! It's a cruel world, and you have my sympathy. Do you want to have an ideagasm?
  16. So you could have done what I did. Follow links to more links and find the information you needed before commenting. What a novel idea. QFT. Do you want to have an ideagasm?
  17. So you challenged me to find a video you wouldn't be able to watch anyway? What would that have achieved? Anyway, just look up the story. The reason for and progress of the traffic stop (up to the point the cars are stopped) are stated in text and the accounts of both sides tally. As for the cop approaching the vehicle with a weapon drawn, well, you're just going to have to trust me on that one. (If you're too lazy to type the guy's name into YouTube) Do you want to have an ideagasm?
  18. Who would have ever called anything a 'peace dividend' and why? Sounds like it came from a committee of blue sky thinkers delegated to brain storm an idea shower of verbiage to cascade down the pipeline and synergise consumer perception with corporate deliverance. Do you want to have an ideagasm?
  19. That's the story. As he tells it and as the cops tell it. I found it, you can find it. Do you want to have an ideagasm?
  20. That's nonsense, regardless of the absurdity of opening a door triggering a beating. The first cop has a gun or tazer in his hand while walking to the car before the door is even opened. They were up for this from minute one. Do you want to have an ideagasm?
  21. There was no chase, there was no reckless driving. They pulled him over because he drove through a 'known drug zone'. For real Do you want to have an ideagasm?

why not? Coca Cola are paying them to do it. No it's not. It's bad, and I despise both the regimes there and the western institutions that facilitate their attempts to buy this veneer of cultural legitimacy, but it's not the worst. The world's a big place, with a lot of sick people. Just as true. Do you want to have an ideagasm?
  23. Did not God give them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another? Did not God give them over to shameful lusts, that their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones, or that In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another? Did they not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God? So God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.... Do they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them? In the story book? Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. In reality? No, no, yes, no, some. Do you want to have an ideagasm?
  24. No, you're just being unrealistic. It's pretty easy to make super concentrated booze but unless you're a tramp who can't get anything else no one's out there drinking pure ethanol, are they? Do you want to have an ideagasm?
  25. Maybe you don't run in the right circles? Do you want to have an ideagasm?
