Too much wrong with that. If you accept that Bush knowingly lied about the existence of Iraqi WMD that's not the same as a false flag operation. Even if you're a lunatic conspiracy theorist who thinks Bush and the CIA brought down the twin towers then that would be a false flag operation, but one that justified the invasion of Afghanistan not Iraq. Free speech is free speech, you don't have to have means and wealth of any kind to use it. So? Who said you did? Does one not need money to purchase an Internet capable device? A right is a right. Behavior can get some of those rights revoked. You have a choice. Personal reaponsibility is key here. If the government can decide that some arbitrary, unrelated form of 'unacceptable' behaviour can lead to the revocation of a right then that right is no longer guaranteed. Whether or not there is due process is irrelevant. Think about it, you're saying that the government can coerce you into certain modes of behaviour by threatening to cut off your access to unrelated rights, and that you're ok with it. I didn't have you pegged as a pro-social engineering kinda guy. Do you want to have an ideagasm?

Um, that's not what he said, and not what the article said either. They were both talking about the media response, not the details of the attacks themselves. I'm not exactly sure how you that could have got that wrong unintentionally. Do you want to have an ideagasm?

That's a very good answer. Turtle's problem with 'necessities' is first to explain what those rights are necessities for, and why that goal is fundamentally central to society. My argument would be that maximising of freedom and fairness for the most people is the goal, and so anything is a right unless there's a damn good reason to take it away. So, for instance, there is a damn good reason for depriving a blind person of their right to drive, but there isn't a damn good reason for depriving a felon of their right to vote, a non-violent felon of their right to own a gun, or someone convicted of a few petty thefts or drug offenses of their right to freedom for as long as they live. Do you want to have an ideagasm?

Here's the problem with your source, and the whole echo-chamber network of fake news sites that make objective analysis of these situations difficult. The banner picture at the top of the story quotes a Dr (oohhh those ivory tower liberals!) Unni Wikan saying that western women are responsible for their own rapes by provoking eastern men who don't know any better. Sounds terrible, right? Well, it's meant to. Dr Wikan is in reality an anti immigration campaigner who said that if Norway keeps admitting large numbers of eastern immigrants who she doesn't think are capable of behaving any better then Norwegians must take the blame for their actions in Norway. It's a strawman position which is now being jumped on by other anti immigration commentators (who either don't know or don't care that she's one of them) and used as an example of how fucked up pro-immigration thinking is when in reality it's anything but. Do you want to have an ideagasm?

I do hope innocent individuals aren't harmed in the fire, but as a whole, yeah, fuck Dubai. Just out of curiosity, why the hate on Dubai? I mean, there's a bunch of youtube vids out there of happy skydivers going to Dubai to jump out of buildings, planes, etc. Dubai seems like the mecha of skydiving, base jumping, and debauchery, no? Sure, if the only thing you judge is the quality of the DZ and other tourist facilities then yeah, yay Dubai! If you judge it by a dictatorship that presides over an oppressive religious legal system and a ruling family that has grown obscenely wealthy through the outrageous exploitation of a virtually sub-human class of labourers then yeah, fuck Dubai! You don't see much of anything. I think your DL might be in danger. The right to drive can be limited to protect public safety for things like being blind that have a direct affect on the excercise of that right. Compare to other specifically enumerated rights which can be taken away for reasons utterly unrelated to the excercise of those rights. Do you want to have an ideagasm?

It's pretty simple. Driving is a right, the fact that it can be reguated or taken away for a particular person doesn't make it just a privilege because rights can be taken away too. I don't think that was so difficult to understand, because everyone else seemed to be grasping the course of the conversation. Until you came in and tried to cut me down to size by explaining that rights can be taken away. Which was my point anyway. Do you want to have an ideagasm?

Generally yes. You revoke more liberty and happiness than pretty much any other functioning government on the planet and more life than most except for the governments you hate for being too barbaric. Go figure. We were talking about constitutional rights. But all the inalienable rights enumerated in the DoI can also be taken away by the government (and are taken away by yours at an unprecedented rate) so I'm not sure if I see the difference there. Do you want to have an ideagasm?

Why certain rights? Are rights rights or are some rights less righty than other rights? And if they are less righty then at some point they surely start to get somewhat privilegy.
