I just went back through the thread because I’d missed what you were talking about - that was you! You brought race into the conversation from absolutely nowhere. You played the race card, and then tried to spring a ‘gotcha!’ on the person who responded to it. If you could stick to discussing the issues instead of playing silly Woke point scoring games then we’d all be better off.

You know that there are huge taboos, complexities and constitutional uncertainties in the US over charging a President with anything at all? That a President not been my charged with something in no way implies he didn’t do something? I fear that explanation is a step too far for you at the moment though. You need more work on the basics first.

You do realise that takeovers by existing military leaders are the most common type of coup, right? Since, according to you, that is almost exactly what does not constitute a coup, what is it? What happened in Myanmar last year if it wasn’t a coup? If it wasn’t a coup, was it legal? See, this is what happens when your only goal is to force logic to fit whatever narrative the radical right wing media is currently feeding you. You just start arguing against reality and demonstrating (yet again) that you don’t have a clue what the concepts you’re spouting off about actually mean. You don’t know what cancel culture is, you don’t know what Woke is, and now you don’t even know what a coup is.

If the Jan 6th coup attempt had worked, Trump would have maintained control of all those things when he wasn’t supposed to. That’s a coup. What you are actually arguing here is that Jan 6th was not a successful coup. No shit, Captain Obvious. Any other difficult concepts you need to explain to us like what colour grass is, or whether rain falls up or down?

That’s obviously untrue, as all the posts you’ve just replied to show. Windsor’s being accused of being a hypocrite regarding the religion he consistently defends as well as being given solid counter argument. Again, Winsor would be horrified to have you spouting such Woke nonsense on his behalf.
-
No, that was the question. Read it again, see if you can follow this time.
-
Again, when did you get so Woke? Winsor himself would be aghast that you are trying to cancel people for criticising any religion.

How can it possibly look any brighter than it does now? Oil companies are making record profits without having to do any more work. In what way is your right wing future scenario where they invest loads more money and sell loads more oil for less profit a brighter outlook for them?
-
Have lefty administrations reduced the amount of oil that can be exported? What makes sense to you is irrelevant. What is in reality happening is perhaps slightly more important.

Why Afghanistan was lost, AKA are we any better than the Russians?
jakee replied to jakee's topic in Speakers Corner
Fuck that amoral bullshit. When you send your military to occupy a nation and control a civilian populace who never wanted you there and have absolutely no recourse or access to due process of their own when your military commits crimes against them, then you have to demand an even higher standard. -

And when elements of them behave like this, we’re much more likely to need them again. But the purpose of the Special Forces is not to maintain the job security of the Special Forces. -

Errm, do you not think they’ll just repeat what they wrote in the reports? That they led an unrestrained captive back into a building and he grabbed a gun or a grenade. Then they did the same thing the next day. And the next day. And all the next week. And the week after that. Funny thing is I’ve known people who were in the SAS and they didn’t give me the impression of being total morons. -

Respect for the military means rooting out corrupt and murderous officers and soldiers, and preventing illegal ‘illegal unofficial policies’ like this one from developing. I don’t know why you hold our soldiers in such contempt that you would ask good people to serve with and under psychopaths. I don’t know why you believe our soldiers lives are of so little value that you would support actions that directly aided the strength and ferocity of the Taliban insurgency. -
When did you get so Woke? Winsor would not approve.

Yes, recognising the reality that two related points are not mutually exclusive is an accepted lefty standard. Unfortunately you work by the accepted righty standard of ‘rhetoric trumps accuracy’.

Why wonder about something that would never happen? Like asking someone living next to a volcano what they’d do if it started erupting powdered sugar instead. Who cares? Let’s just live in reality and deal with the fact that the volcano is still dangerous. By the way, the question reminds me of Ivanka deflecting criticism of Trump’s outright nepotism and grift in giving her a seat at the table in international conferences. She said ‘if it was Chelsea Clinton here you wouldn’t be complaining’. Again, the point is that Chelsea Clinton would never have been there, just like Trump will never suddenly become a respectful, diligent and professional statesman.

Make up his mind on which of the pints he’s offered that utterly demolish the right wing media talking points you are yet again simply parroting? I don’t think he needs to.

Here’s the thing. You only believe we’ve been fractured into ‘special interest’ groups now because you can see them, and because the people opposed to them are louder now that it’s all in the open. Before, the people opposed to them were so powerful the ‘special interest’ groups were forced underground and out of view. Hell, I remember the days on this forum (so hardly the mists of time) when any discussion that involved gay rights would have multiple people proudly claiming ‘I have no problem with gay people, I just don’t want them shoving it down my throat’. When what ‘shoving it down my throat’ really meant was any public display of same sex affection. You know, the stuff that all straight people do all the time. Now, hardly anyone says that anymore because they’ve realised they were wrong. The people who still say it are even more loud and angry because they’ve realised they’re losing. But despite them being so loud and angry, at ground level society is better and is less divided now - at least on that subject and many other similar ones. By the way, without you being any more specific I assume that the ‘special interest’ groups you’re talking about are simply people who want to live their life how they want. Or in other words, people.

No, you’re arguing that something can’t be better unless it’s perfect.

You might want to go back and reread the OP. He wasn't talking about what you think he's talking about.

That is fully within the control of the oil companies who are currently making out like bandits. They’d rather not do more work for the same amount of money when they can just create an artificial restriction instead. This is just another reason why a purely capitalistic approach is unsustainable - both in this and your housing example.

They’re called orders, Maverick. -
Sounds like the kinda guy who'd use Dijon mustard. Unforgiveable.
