Every single time a right winger posts a joke that gets a bad reception then complains that lefties have no sense of humour, the ‘joke’ either slams lefties or supports the radical right wing agenda. It’s exactly what they would be saying and we would be disagreeing with if it wasn’t a ‘joke’. Every single time. Normally I’d say you’d demonstrate a sense of humour by telling one from the other side, but a joke about murdering people who share your values probably still wouldn’t be very funny.

Open border policy backfires as Hispanics move to the Right

Open border policy backfires as Hispanics move to the Right

And still has a significantly lower drug death rate than Mesa. Again, you’re saying that the problem Republicans have with Fentanyl in Portland is that there’s not enough of it. They’re all moving to red states and cities where it’s easier to get. -
Jokes are so much funnier when they’re explained in painstaking detail.

And you say that’s because they like Fentanyl. It’s not the best campaign slogan, is it? -

Mesa, Arizona’s own data says they had approximately the same absolute number of opioid overdose deaths last year as San Francisco. Mesa, AZ has half the population of San Francisco. So cool comparison. Fans of Fentanyl, vote Republican! -
That’s not your honest opinion. If it was, you wouldn’t need to misuse the word ‘segregation’ for a start. No, most of the people you support want to destroy your country, even some of the other people you claim to support have told you that. Viktor Orban is what their policies look like in the real world.
-
No, you hate your country because the majority of people you support want to destroy it. As one of your favourites said about several of the others ‘Adults don’t point a loaded gun at the heart of legitimate self government.’

I wonder why they combined data from two different studies to reach their conclusion. Probably because they needed to manipulate the result in order to fool some gullible people. -
I like it. If English had any rules, it would make sense.

Oh thank goodness. I was really worried there for a minute.

If you can get us a Jim Hacker I’ll do my best to find you a Jefferson Smith.

Rishi Sunak has one of the only remotely realistic economic plans provided by any of the candidates, who were mostly rushing to promise so many huge tax cuts that their plans were mostly characterised as relying on the existence of a magic money forest. It’s been said here many times that Reagan would be denounced as a Rino by todays Republican Party. Now Sunak - a self described economic Thatcherite - is being denounced by half the parliamentary Tory party for being irredeemably socialist. It’s truly staggering how far our societies have moved to the economic right, and how fast they are continuing in that direction Anyway, Truss also has the problem of having the zeal of a convert. One who voted against Brexit but has now turned as reactionary, as anti Europe and as isolationist as possible to make up for that terrible sin. As Stumpy said above, question is whether the short term pain of a Truss government would be worth the increased possibility of the Tories being voted out in a couple of years. Otherwise, I didn’t bother learning about Tom Tugendhat’s policies because it was obvious he’d never make it through - but he had the rare quality (on both sides) of being a politician who could give a straight answer to a straight question. So kudos to him for that.

Of all the awful Republicans in government Hawley must be close to the top of the shit list just because you really strongly get the feeling that he knows better. MTG says evil and insane things because she’s insane, Lindsay Graham does because he’s a craven kiss ass who’s terrified of falling out with the big kids. Trump does it because he’s a pure narcissist powered on by a mix of ADHD and prescription drug side effects… Josh Hawley does it purely because he’s a cynical, manipulative rat bastard who’s calculated it as the best path to power. It’s heart warming to know that forever being the ‘leader’ who ran away will be an almost insurmountable obstacle in the way of any higher office than the one he has now.

“At the same time, however, the network’s hosts have also urged viewers to dig up dirt on executives of companies that had dropped OAN, not exactly helping Herring’s cause to attract new customers.” Couldn’t happen to nicer guys. Still, it’d be a shame if the company ceased to exist before it was slapped with $1Bn in damages to Dominion.

Like what, for example? Its surprising how long established a lot of our ‘facts’ are. While almost nothing is ever finished, the fundamentals generally stay solid and it’s fine detail being added. The stuff we’re just speculating about is not marketed as ‘fact’. Think about it, Newton’s Mechanics from the 1600’s aren’t laughed off today. Darwin’s Species from the 1800s aren’t laughed off. Einstein’s Relativity in the prewar 1900s isn’t laughed off. Heck, even before the formalisation of the scientific method there was solid knowledge being generated. 2200 years ago someone calculate the circumference of the earth to within a couple of percent just using a map, a couple of shadows and a measuring stick. That’s not something to be laughed off.

One of your favourite arguments is that people secretly are what they complain about. Hence you can dismiss anti racists as actual racists. Since you’re obsessed with wokeness and have never once told a joke it turns out that in your case you’re probably correct.

Jesus fucking Christ that is so naive you cannot possibly actually believe it. When you have to obviously lie to yourself to support your point of you then surely it would be easier to simply acknowledge reality instead? Doctors who want to continue being doctors (I.e. pretty much all of the good ones) in places where abortion is illegal will allow a 10 year old to have a baby. This is why said 10 year old could not get an abortion in her state, because the doctors there would have allowed her to have a baby. That is what really happened in the real world where real people live.
-
Yes. Exactly. That’s the whole fucking point. So please ask your Republican friends to stop writing cruel laws that hurt children even more than simply having the negligent parent already does.
-
Right, it’s the ten year old’s own stupid fault for having negligent parents. Republican consciences successfully soothed.

So why were you talking about a completely different one? Why were you arguing that a coup needs to involve replacing the military leadership? Have you figured out yet what happened in Myanmar and so many other nations when it is the military leadership that usurps power? You say those aren’t coups, so what are they? Do you deny, in the face of all evidence, logic and reason that Trump and his team attempted to illegally usurp power on Jan 6th? You deny that there was any plot to overturn the election result? See, all if this is solid evidence that you live in an alternate reality created by your slavish adherence to radical right wing talking points.
-
If you’re arguing that he and the republicans don’t pursue policies that are harmful to women’s rights, racial equality and trans people then I’m not sure what reality you live in. Anyway, I’m still more interested in getting an explanation of your ridiculous righty dogma that has invented a new definition of what a coup is.

Why Afghanistan was lost, AKA are we any better than the Russians?
jakee replied to jakee's topic in Speakers Corner
Fuck that amoral bullshit. No one in the SAS was press ganged, and the fact that some of the people whose home you invaded want to kill you doesn’t mean you get to shoot everyone standing next to a plow ‘just in case’. Not only is that rationale vile and abhorrent it doesn’t even stand up to a pragmatic evaluation, since it is very much a self fulfilling prophecy. -
And then to use their power and public position to accuse said rape victim of making it all up.
-
First, you missed out the part where it was happening in concert with a coordinated attempt to manipulate constitutional procedure and subvert the election results. Second, I’ve highlighted the word that proves my first reply to you was correct. You’re not arguing that it wasn’t a coup attempt, you’re arguing that it was not a successful coup. Again, no shit Captain Obvious. Here’s a concept that needs to be fed to you, being a competent criminal is not a prerequisite for committing a crime. Many, many, many criminals are apprehended, charged and convicted because the criminal schemes they attempt to carry out are not viable. Baaaaahahahaha! Like you? A man so caught up in presenting twisted right wing excuses as fact that he is currently denying that military coups are coups?
