  6. not worth worrying about : 4: 2 Damn weather! Had more jumps planned but hey - it was still good. First Islander jump. First jump on my own rig. Now that was good! ____________________________ "If there is doubt, there is no doubt." - Tonto
  7. Thanks for highlighting the fact that some of us were once again spending the day at work pretending to be responsible adults! (and it's damn difficult.....) But hey - tomorrow's payday, so roll on the weekend...and some good weather! ____________________________ "If there is doubt, there is no doubt." - Tonto
  8. not as many as planned/4/lots! 1. no comment. Did my CAT II (SA) second test jump on Sat. a.m. and went LOW for the first time!!! A quick solo this morning, then re-did the test jump - first jump with another woman! And it was awesome - did the test twice over comfortably. Then my first 2-way not with a coach - was great fun. Did a compressed accordion exit (another first for me) which um...well..got quite exciting when we ended up in a crazy spin! The jump pretty much went to shit after that, but I have never laughed so much in freefall..... All in all an awesome weekend. I haven't gotten around to counting all the firsts yet. ____________________________ "If there is doubt, there is no doubt." - Tonto
  9. Is very true about non-skydiving husbands/men battling more with it than non-jumping women!!! I know all about this one........ ____________________________ "If there is doubt, there is no doubt." - Tonto
  10. Thanks - that makes sense. I always hated poised exits and prefer the dive exit every time and don't feel uncomfortable at all, but was just wondering why some people insist that if you're getting out low you should do a poised exit. Never made sense to me and I was wondering if there was something major I was missing. The relative wind explanation always worked for me! ____________________________ "If there is doubt, there is no doubt." - Tonto
  11. Hopefully not one of those stupid questions!! When doing hop-n-pops, what should be the determining factor in your choice of a poised or dive exit? Is there a significant difference in altitude lost while getting stable? I know that the theory is that a poised exit gets you stable quicker, but I watched someone have an unstable deployment after a poised exit on a hop and pop last weekend, which prompted the question. Or is it whatever you're more comfortable with? ____________________________ "If there is doubt, there is no doubt." - Tonto
  12. Next time send he does it send him a link to this forum. ____________________________ "If there is doubt, there is no doubt." - Tonto
  13. ah the pressure of living at the coast all year round.......I may not have to wait till December. Just gotta get some more jumps done first. It's really tough being able to see the sea from the aircraft at two dropzones of choice. When are you jetting off? Come down and visit before then!!! ____________________________ "If there is doubt, there is no doubt." - Tonto
  14. That's awesome - you go girl!! I was sooooooo jealous leaving all of you having such a good time and having to go back to work. But hey- I'll be there next year. Glad you had such a blast! Chat soon. T ____________________________ "If there is doubt, there is no doubt." - Tonto

  16. "Hi, my name's _____________ . Remember it because you're gonna be screaming it all night long!" No. I didn't forget his name - but he didn't get lucky either!! ____________________________ "If there is doubt, there is no doubt." - Tonto
  17. Any thoughts of adding a South African leg to the teaching circuit? ____________________________ "If there is doubt, there is no doubt." - Tonto
  18. I'll make you feel a bit better! I'm also stuck in front of the computer with an assignment that's due tomorrow. Twenty odd pages of statistical analysis, graphs etc. I've neglected it cos my mind's been in the sky and I've been looking for a rig (far more interesting!) And 7 other people's marks also depend on it! Hey at least it's raining here in SA. But I was at the dz yesterday and couldn't jump due to wind. Hang in there - maybe next weekend we'll be jumping and others will be slave to something else. T ____________________________ "If there is doubt, there is no doubt." - Tonto
  19. you enjoyed that one hey! Well speaking of students and being professional, I walked in on one of my 9th grade boys in the same pose in front of the whole class the other day....was one of those "I can't laugh now!!!" moments. Was priceless. All saw me arriving except him. Needless to say he nearly died of embarrassment. ____________________________ "If there is doubt, there is no doubt." - Tonto
  20. I know the feeling. Even the people I work with occassionally walk up to me and say "You're mentally getting out the plane, aren't you?" and when I ask why they say, "Well you have that huge stupid grin on your face again". ____________________________ "If there is doubt, there is no doubt." - Tonto
  21. I got off a load for that reason at the boogie! (Yep, I sat out a possible jump!!!) Didn't think I'd ever see the day. But there are some psychos out there... ____________________________ "If there is doubt, there is no doubt." - Tonto
  22. I had a similar thing happen about a month and a half ago on a student canopy. Spring-loaded pilot chute though, it went under the back of the canopy and around a few lines. My first reaction was a lot of swearing but decided to do controllability checks as well before chopping it. With gentle treatment it flew fine. And then I hit turbulence at 800ft. It was a hellishly hot day, very bumpy but there was no way in hell I was going to even consider chopping it so resigned myself to whatever shit was coming my way. Flew a very long very straight approach, a bit bumpy in the air, but also landed fine. Hey, all's well that ends well! ____________________________ "If there is doubt, there is no doubt." - Tonto
  23. Hats off to you... I could never be that diplomatic! Should've said to him "Okay, so you don't think we should sell gear? And put him in the plane without a rig and hung him out the door a bit. Maybe he would change his mind ____________________________ "If there is doubt, there is no doubt." - Tonto
  24. // What a f***ing awful weekend. Was going to post about weekend blues but this says it all. Home dz's plane broken. Sat all day at alternate dz on Saturday and the wind nearly blew the horns off the cows. Sunday all day analysing statistics for assignment due end of the week. 50-something pages in excel already. No wonder I'm in a foul mood with a bad headache. Does listening to Alanis help these things? ____________________________ "If there is doubt, there is no doubt." - Tonto
  25. I know the feeling. It sucks. I know what my cause is though - always have too much to do (studying, working etc) and no matter what the day of the week my work is never finished. So I sit on here and procrastinate about it instead of go to bed. Hey if you get any real solutions pass them on. Will be great to pass the 4-5hours a night average! ____________________________ "If there is doubt, there is no doubt." - Tonto
