I'll add my 2c worth given that I only ended up leaving on the 5th! Yes, we were all pretty grumpy about the aircraft issue - it sucks to drive over 10 hours and not find a tailgate plane (although I kid you not!!! there was a UN C130 doing touch and go's on the 4th!) The venue is great for a boogie, and the infrastructure was perfect. Catering was also well-organised. Bev, those hybrids rocked! Although next year I want to be one of the freefliers! I managed to get 20 jumps in and know someone who managed over 50, but a lot of that happened out of the kingair when most people had left. I went there expecting to do some big formations, and it was a bit disappointing that these were limited by the aircraft issues, but on the plus side, I learnt a whole lot more about freeflying than I thought I would! So to all of you there that jumped and partied with me - thanks for the good times . Ok here are mine Rig1 is the first rig I bought - so colours weren't my choice (not into pink!) but got a good deal. Rig2 I nearly bought (the grey one), but decided instead to order Rig3 - custom fit etc, and like Peej said - the extra backpadding is awesome! Are you ordering new? Don't think OMJ posts here, but he's pretty proficient on the email, so I'll mail him and try and twist his arm to come and join us here! He really is amazing, and it's been my privilege to do several skydives with him. He's also a real gentleman, and can teach guys half his age about charming women!

I had a pretty nervous girl I dispatched on her second static line jump on Sunday. Spent some time on the ground reassuring her, and she did a fabulous jump. During the debrief I complimented her on her confidence, and she said to me that she was sitting in the door, and looked at me and the pilot (who has over 6000 jumps), and realised that we wouldn't be doing this if we didn't have full confidence in our training and the fact that we were doing it as safely as we could, and that made her feel a whole lot better! I never thought of that approach before...

Yesterday I dispatched a student doing the static line progression for his 3 second freefall jump. He had a malfunction, did his reserve drills in very good time, and walked back into the packing area with his main ripcord, cutaway handle and reserve ripcord in hand!! (Added bonus his main and freebag both landed on the dz but I think that was more luck than skill with the spot). And the best part is he was smiling too. Pietermaritzburg Parachute Club also has 3 AFF instructors generally available 7 days a week. Weather in KZN is magic in May - February is pretty hot! Go to our website and take a look. That picture brings back so many memories of Maritzburg. Piers was a huge inspiration when I was battling on student status and couldn't for the life of me do a stable 3 second delay. When I was on the verge of quitting, I remember him sitting me down in the pub after a good many beers and telling me: "Progression is the hardest thing you'll ever do, and it's a baptism of fire. But if you finish, you'll never look back." I think it was some of the best advice I got in the early days and have passed it on to many others. That was probably the single most influential comment in me not giving up the sport. It's such a terrible loss, especially to a small club like PPC where it really is a weekend family, but there is comfort in the fact that Piers lived life to the full and didn't waste a moment. Not true at all. At Pietermaritzburg Parachute Club you can go straight onto AFF. The ground school is extremely thorough and our AFF instructors are great too. If you want any more info. feel free to pm me or go to skydivekzn.co.za. We have 3 AFF instructors who are available to instruct 7 days a week, so not restricted to weekends only

I'm trying to round up a bunch of the Kzn ruffians to get to jsc in July sometime so will see you there
