This is just an idle curiosity question, nothing I'm thinking of actually having done. We had a crappy spot and we were getting as close to the DZ as possible by rear risering the whole way to a nearby corn field. Due to a blister on my hand which ripped open and bled all over the place holding onto the risers, it was a bit uncomfortable So, is there such a thing as having loops on rear risers like the front risers for such occasions? Pros/cons if even feasable? I don't want them, since under normal circumstances risering in is pretty easy for me, just curious if that would work for students or people with less upper body strength or larger canopies? The only situation I've been in so far was another student, we both had 8 or 9 jumps at the time, and he was the kind of guy itching to start swooping so didn't trust him worth shit. He stayed on my tail and no matter what I did to get away, he kept following me. I could see his facial expressions and that was way too fucking close for my comfort. Though I agree with another post, if both pilots are aware of the other, the situation is far safer than one or both pilots not seeing the other. Though with a whopping 80 jumps, it doesn't really matter what I think Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

A centimeter would be chopping through bone or damn close to it too (unless you have extraordinarily fat fingers). If that is the case, you may want it checked out. If not, quit whining and deal with it Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

Oooh, I forgot about those, haven't read them since Jr. High. Time to get to a book store.... Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

Absolutely! It's wonderful seeing some of the best fantasy books finally being made into movies. Now when are they going to start on the contemporary fantasy... Shannara, etc? Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

I hope that I always feel that I'm a low timer, always get just a bit nervous on the way to altitude. To admit to being a low timer means being open to learning as much as possible to everyone else, and there are so many subspecialties in skydiving that probably every jumper is a low timer in some facet of it. The day I stop feeling like a low timer or fail to get just a little bit nervous is the day I quit jumping since being cocky or over-confident is a good way to get hurt. One more question about losing an eye
peregrinerose replied to Casch's topic in Skydivers with Disabilities
This varies by state, so contact your DMV. For most non-CDL licenses this should not be an issue. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda -
There should be some kind of donor program for reductionists to donate to implantationists. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

They are beautiful. There's a nest of them in downtown Harrisburg and a falcon cam so you can watch the babies grow up via the internet. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

Oil Price Rise = Jump Ticket Price Rise?
peregrinerose replied to Adriandavies's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
At the 2 DZs I'm at, one increased the fee by $2, the other has not raised prices at this time. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda -
Social Security for Loss of Eye
peregrinerose replied to Casch's topic in Skydivers with Disabilities
I'm an optometrist, most of my patients are visually impaired/legally blind. You won't get anything from social security for a lost eye since it doesn't impair your ability to work at almost any job. Commercial pilot might be about the only thing you'd be limited on. It will take you a while to adapt, your brain is used to gathering info from two eyes, particularly with depth perception. But there are 10 cues to perceiving depth, only 2 of them require stereopsis (2 eyes working together). You are lucky to have only lost an eye and not anything more serious! Yeah, that was a little weird too. The first time I heard of that happening at our DZ. He's a nice guy too, I miss learning from him. The rest of the guys I jump with are primarily single and don't care about marital status. The other girls I jump with definitely don't care Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

Not really. There was one far more experienced jumper than me who frequently jumped with me, occasionally got me into 3-4 ways with more experienced jumpers. I learned a lot this way, but once he found out I was married, he never talked with me again. Not that I was hiding that I was married, I just assumed that he knew considering that my husband also jumps and we are usually found in near proximity of each other. I have a hell of a time finding more experienced jumpers willing to jump with me (or any newbie). There is a group of 6 or 7 of us with jump numbers from 80 to 100 that end up flying together since few others are willing to take the time out to do so. There are a few, but they deserve their more complicated fun jumps too, not spending all day working with us. So, we've been doing 2-3 ways, one 4 way, all easy, just rounds or mirror jumps, or practing matching fall rates or diving after each other. We usually run our jump by one of the DZ owners to confirm that we are safe and get some pointers. We didn't jump together until running it by a couple of coaches who jumped with us when working toward our As first. All of us have improved by learning from each other, but we all think we'd learn even more if some of the more experienced guys were a bit more willing to work with us. I'm sure it doesn't help that none of us like to bother the more experienced jumpers by asking for a jump or two. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

This War is Different? and things to think about

An Iraqi government put in place through the actions of the US thanks the US.... big stinking deal. I don't think that statement has any effect at all on the arguement at hand. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda -

I am nowhere near qualified to give flaring advice. Just wanted to let you know you aren't alone by any stretch of the imagination! At 7 jumps, you only had 7 chances to practice flaring/landing. For me, it took 20 jumps of practice to get it right. My problem was flaring slightly unevenly and not completely, but there are a million other reasons too, talk to your instructor on that. You aren't alone though Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

Is Proper spelling important (Typoglycemia)
peregrinerose replied to Channman's topic in Speakers Corner
The first time my husband emailed me after becomming intregued by my online personals ad, his email got deleted after a very quick perusal. It was one line, no punctuation, horrible spelling. I never even gave the illiterate idiot a chance. I responded (unknowingly) to his ad a couple weeks later. Turns out he's not nearly as stupid as he came across in that first email. But his grammatical skills are still atrocious. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda -

I'm a newbie, so have no real basis for comparison between mine and a student jumpsuit. However two of us at the DZ with fairly new Bev Suits (mine has 60ish jumps on it, his is newer) have problems with one zipper unzipping on the booties. It is always my right bootie (his left) and it really does screw up how you fly. Still haven't figured out what to do about it, but I am considering sending it back to have that zipper replaced. Three weeks seizure free is a very very very short period of time. Your body does adapt to meds with time, and it is very possible to have another seizure as your body adapts. I don't have epilepsy, I have a seizure disorder. They are different, though I don't really know all the logistics of why

I agree, wonderful movie! There's a Korean movie called 'The Brotherhood of War' (translation, real name in Korean, of course), and it's probably one of the best war movies I've ever seen. We're on a foreign flick kick right now. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

'epilepsy' or 'seizure disorder' is such a broad family of conditions, literally different for everyone. What my situation is may not be the same as yours. Track your seizures (time of day, duration, description, situation in which it occurred) and keep log of it. If you lose consciousness, space out, or forget them, have a friend/sig other track them. Knowing yourself is so important, especially if you are newly diagnosed. Take your meds on time and as prescribed. Most importantly, talk to your doc. It is much better to play things safe than have a seizure in the plane, in freefall, or under canopy, where not only your own safety may be affected, but other people as well.
