Out of total curiosity, and I completely understand if you don't want to answer, but do you lead on this one by example, or is more of a 'do what I say, not as I do' kind of thing? How many of those parents who advocate waiting actually waited themselves? We're going to be adopting in the near future, and the kids will be older (9+), so I'm making mental notes for them, this isn't just nosiness

You compared deaths/skydiver to deaths/driver. Those are two entirely different ratios. Comparing deaths/minute of activity to deaths/minute of activity are at least utilizing comparable units. That is why your 'stats' don't have much validity to them. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

Your stats don't make sense, you aren't comparing like quantities. For your comparison to be valid, you'd have to compare # of deaths per minute of driving and per minute of skydiving (from exit to landing) for it to make any sense. How many minutes does the average driver spend behind the wheel? How many minutes does the average jumper spend on an actual skydive (from exit to landing)? Then take the fatalities into persepective with this... guaranteed it will change, and skydiving is the far riskier sport. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

That's what happens when you buy when prices are inflated. Buying while housing prices are spiking isn't all that bright, as sooner or later they are going to drop a bit. That's why I just bought my dream home a month ago. Not a lot of chance of the value dropping

I could not have less desire in the world to golf. Nothing about it appeals to me. I'm not afraid to do it, too poor to do it, or have a lack of time to do it, I have friends that golf and love it, but it just doesn't appeal to me at all. How is that any different from your mom? And don't ever try to talk someone into skydiving. The reality is, you can do everything right and still die or be seriously injured (which may be even worse than just plain old dying). If someone doesn't want to do it or have that desire, and you convince them to give it a whirl so they do it to appease you, how will you feel when they are hurt? They say that if you are in the sport long enough, you will see a fatality and know someone that goes in. I always hoped that I'd be the exception to the rule, but that's not how things worked out. Welcome to grown-up world. I got fucked too (my own fault). Refinanced my student loans at just a shade less than 8% interest. And then they dropped to like 5% within a year. When you're in debt for $126K, that's a big mistake. I busted my ass to pay mine off... lived on ramen noodles, drove a car with over 100K miles, lived cheap, paid the whole thing off in 7 years. Any Phily area folks out there? Dave is going to be in University of PA Hospital in the near future to repair the hole that's leaking fluid into his chest cavity. This made me think of a billboard on the PA turnpike. It says "Jesus, Accept or Reject". I don't see it as that clear cut. I agree, that some of the teachings of the Bible are truly good ones, how to live in peace, get along, help others, the basics of how to live a good life. Teachings that are similar to virtually every philosophical and religous doctrine. I have tried very hard in my life to be a good Christian, that is how I was raised. But I never really felt it in my heart, I don't feel that Jesus is real and there and part of me, no matter how open I was and how badly I wanted to believe in that kind of truth. Is that rejection of Jesus that I walked away from the Christian church because I could no longer bear the hypocrisy of pretending to believe something that just never really fit with me? I don't feel that I've rejected anything, only accepted the fact that I am human, I have to do the best I can in this life with the tools that I have and the nature of my spirit. That's exactly what I am doing, and I've found so much more peace and joy on this path than I've ever known before. As a result I'm better equipped to give to and care for others. Hi Gerry, You list Kutztown as your home DZ, have you been out there yet? I'm one of the AFF instructors there and my husband is one of the Tandem instructors. It's a great DZ, wonderful people, incredible DZOs... you're in great hands there (not that I'm biased or anything). There's another student on here too from Kutztown, his name is Alex and I don't remember his user name off-hand, hell of a nice guy. He's bad luck with weather though... if he's on the books to jump, it WILL rain
