  1. Don't forget gear rental too, it's not like most people buy gear straight off of AFF. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  2. Ummm.... did I miss something odd about it? That sounds exactly like every AFF exit sequence at every DZ I've been to. It's all in the SIM... Dave I was thinking the same thing... Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  3. I love Para gear for their speed of shipping and getting everything right the first time on orders. But mostly I hate them. Every time I place a Paragear order, I end up finding things that aren't on my shopping list that I just HAVE to have, and so I always end up spending more than I planned with them Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  4. OK. Having met you, I gotta say that I would be much more than happy to give you a "nutz check" at any time day or night. Be assured that I would be very thorough and would render a professional opinion that would stand up (no puns intended) in court. The Dr. is IN. LOL!!!!!
  5. I'm not sure why you consider the main a problem. It's a decent first canopy. I have about 150 jumps on a Sabre1 170 and my husband has about 300 jumps on the same canopy. Neither of us ever got slammed. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  6. I totally forgot, George R.R. Martin is absolutely fantastic for plot, character development. Fantasy, but also very political intregue. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  7. Ooh, I forgot about those, also wonderful books! Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  8. If you like Douglas Adams, you'd love Terry Pratchett, the Discworld Series. Absolutely phenominal.. same kind of British humor. Robin Hobbs trilogies Terry Brooks earliest Shannara series (although his newest book was pretty good too) Laurell K. Hamilton's Vampire Porn series (ok, it's not really called that, but for mindless smut, it's pretty good) Dennis McKiernan's Mithgar series David Eddings Belgariad Series Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  9. Agreed. The drawback with getting omega 3s from diet is the amount of heavy metals often found in salmon and other fish that are high in them, so it's actually safer in this case to get it from a supplement, as they are processed to remove the mercury. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  10. I ditto everything above... except the 'kick me in the nuts' part. If you can find nuts on me, have fun kicking them though Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  11. Don't be so sure it's just diet. There's actually a prescription form of Omega 3 (high dosage, because it's the ester version not the triglyceride version, blood work needs to be done to monitor liver function) that is used for cholesterol lowering purposes, as well as several other things. I recommend Flax or Fish oil for a lot of my patients for ocular reasons... increases tear film in dry eye patients, has been shown to reduce the risk of macular degeneration, but the cholesterol lowering is also a known effect. Drawback is that it's a blood thinner, so you have to be careful taking it with aspirin, coumadin, warfarin, or other blood thinning agents. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  12. Just to add to that, I also have a skygirls team doing the same walk in Philadelphia, so far there are 3 of us, team name is Sky Goddesses. We'd love to have company as well!!!!! Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  13. I must have misread something then, will have to get signed up there Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  14. Only drawback is you need to pay to get your name listed on there. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  15. I got the impression that it was a different rigger charging a different price and that ticked her off. If it is the same place it would depend on the assembly... they would charge more for assembling a full rig (main, reserve, AAD) than just adding a main, or just installing a cypres, etc, so she may have been comparing two different things? Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  16. I disagree. When you order a car, it comes pre-assembled. If you order a part for your car, the dealer or mechanic charges you two fees... one for the part, and one for labor to have it installed. If you want to install the part yourself, you can save the money and just order the part. I just ordered all new gear through a dealer. It didn't come pre-assembled, it came in separate parts. Parts and labor are two separate fees. Because I'm a rigger, I saved on labor fees by assembling myself. It took me a couple of hours to inspect and assemble. Why should someone not charge for a couple hours of work that they spent a lot of time and effort (and often money) to learn how to do? Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  17. The OP didn't have a problem with paying, just a problem with varied price structures. It makes me crazy that most new jumpers don't get to know their riggers or their gear, as the OP obviously didn't. For crying out loud... new jumpers, interview riggers, find out EXACTLY what is done during a repack... ask questions, watch the repack if you can, always pull your own handles on the ground just prior to the repack so you know how it feels to cut away and pull a reserve on your own rig. Learn your gear and know your rigger well. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  18. I'm not sure why you are so surprised that different riggers charge different amounts for the same service. If you're going to have work done on your house, you may get 10 estimates from 10 contractors and get 10 different dollar amounts. If you had them all do the same work, you'd find 10 different skill levels and workmanship too (not always better service at higher price levels either). What makes you think riggers are any different than any other service industry? Price will vary, included services will vary, quality will vary. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

  20. Nope. I doubt they ever will. I can't say I'm all that upset about it since I left home at 17 (extremely abusive mother... physically, sexually, emotionally... it was bad). I went to my grandfather's funeral and my father was introducing my brother to distant family members, with me standing beside my brother, he totally ignored the fact I was there, refused to acknowledge me as his daughter. That stung a little. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  21. Patience young grasshopper You didn't read War and Peace 3 days after you learned the alphabet.... skydiving is no different. You have 3 jumps, you're not supposed to be some kind of skygod yet! That's the whole point of AFF... to work on your weak points and build on your strengths in order to make you a skydiver capable of saving your own life in freefall and have consistent stability in free fall. Ask anyone on here with thousands of jumps... every last one of them has SOMETHING that they are still working on, something about their flying they still aren't happy with, some just out of reach goal that they are trying to achieve. That's the nature of the sport... there's always something new to learn, some aspect to focus on. You will never be the skydiver you want to be, neither will I, but that's the best part of the sport... that constant learning and working and playing. Relax, have fun with the learning process, learn that it's ok to not be perfect... none of us are
