So she has an infant under 1 year old, what maybe 9mosish, meaning she banged another guy 18 mos. ago, so obviously met this dude much later, so they couldn't have known each other all that long, plus have never met face to face. Pardon my skepticism, but seeing as how this woman does not seem to be from the deeper end of the genetic pool, should she really be hooking up and popping out another kid on cash that gullible saps from ebay give her? Besides, why can't he fly out to see her?? Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

Isaac or Ishmail... That's what it's all about.
peregrinerose replied to Air-Addict's topic in Speakers Corner
First, I am definitely not Christian (or any other relgion either). Myth/Mythos is a fictional story or half truth used to perpetuate a cultural morality or attitude. I just don't think it is appropriate to take someone's beliefs and call them mythology. You and I may not hold these things as truth, but that doesn't mean that Christians feel this way. And who knows, maybe their right and we're the misguided ones. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda -
In a radio station (with the DJ!), beside a river in Yellowstone with both a starry sky and thunderstorm overhead simultaneously, on top of a mountain with 60 degree weather but snow all around, middle of a cornfield, PA Forest Dept land, in various cars/pickups. i STILL don't understand why people detest Michael Moore
peregrinerose replied to Newbie's topic in Speakers Corner
As far as I'm concerned Michael Moore is a letter to the editor in film format. He uses information slanted to support his particular stance and happens to do it in a way that people will actually pay to see it. But it is no more informational than a letter to the editor in the local paper. Though I disagree with him on a lot of things, I don't detest him, he can say whatever he wants to, it's his opinion, and he admits it is his opinion, I don't see what's so wrong with that. Sure, the lemmings of America are often too mindless to question what they hear and see, but not much I can individually do about that. So the guy's fat, I don't think that matters a bit. Who cares about that? Now what I do think is funny is largish Dr. Phil giving weight loss advice, but that's a whole other thread unto itself -
Sonofabitch, just looked outside, gorgeous clear blue sky. It's 2pm, by 4pm, freaking thunderstorms roll in, just in time for me getting out of work at 430 and I work 10 mins from the DZ. SIGH Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

I did my first AFF 2 weeks ago, and got soundly hooked. Of course even though the money has been sitting in my bank account for my next 2 jumps, freaking rain has been falling every freaking day since then. I will never look at the sky the same way again, and it's starting to bug me that I can't get farther in my training at the moment. Can any of you please do something about the weather in Cburg?? Isaac or Ishmail... That's what it's all about.
peregrinerose replied to Air-Addict's topic in Speakers Corner
I have a lot of things to reply to this time, looks like I missed quite a bit in the time I wasn't reading (I actually had to work at work yesterday afternoon ) First, I don't think that calling someone's firmly held belief systems a 'mythos' is appropriate, since the connotation is so degrading. I can disagree with someone forever or vehmently, and still not put down their viewpoint (at least I really try not to or come across that way). I'm far from perfect and certainly don't know even close to everything. Just as proving Christianity or any other faith is impossible, it is just as impossible to conclusively prove that there is no God, or that any faith is completely off base. That's where questions and discussions like this come in, to explore the contradictions and learn from each other. About the human perspective of all this, I agree with that. Arthur C. Clarke said something along the lines of Religion being created by Satan in order to hide the true face of God. I could not agree more. Yes, I read too much science fiction and my bathroom text of choice is Sky and Telescope. -
One of the reasons I love this city...

No Shit it's nuts But I was a starving grad student that couldn't afford much more than the $200/month I was paying to live there. Guess that wouldn't have mattered if I was dead though.... I went to PA College of Optometry, so could walk to school. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda -

I don't know where in Phila you live, but woulda been nice having you and your friends around where I lived up there (1 block from Fern Rock train station, N. Philly). Big mess of crime, of course the local drug gang was run by the guy living above me in my duplex. Thank goodness I was on good terms with him, or I probably would have had a lot more trouble than I did, being alone and young and female there. I hated philly. Vote blindly along political lines, or don't vote at all?
peregrinerose replied to kelel01's topic in Speakers Corner
It actually scares me the kind of people who are actually out there helping to determine the fate of our country. One of the most apalling voting trends I see is those people who vote sole-ly based on the issue of abortion and pay no attention to the rest of the picture. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda -
No Brainer. A toilet takes a lot of shit but has a tendency to just keep right on running. When it gets plugged up, it's easy to clean the whole thing out with a plunger too, and we're right back to business. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

peregrinerose replied to Air-Addict's topic in Speakers Corner
Though I agree with the 99% of the time 'obvious' isn't 'obvious' at all, in this case it is. If God is all powerful, then by definition, he can do anything. One of those anythings would include existing outside the bounaries of linear time. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda -
We all know that women are tough than men anyway, so makes sense. I love my Ram, and she's definitely a girl. I named her Polly, as in short for 'Napolean complex truck' since I'm much taller when driving her than when standing on the ground. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

We had a freshly cleaned vibrator sitting on the bathroom sink. The 12 year old neighbor showed up at the house, she was chatting with us, asked to use the bathroom. Of course I told her to go, not realizing what was there. She's and extremely nosy kid and I could hear her playing with it. I tried to convince her it was a dog toy. This is completely off topic, but like any thread stays on topic for long.... but anyhow, I'm very young looking and female, so at least 2x a day I get asked how long I've been a doctor. So I get this dumb sorority high pitched voice, flip my braid or ponytail and let them know quite confidently that I graduated yesterday and they are my third patient, followed by a dumb little giggle. I love the initial look on their faces. I only do this with patients I know have a sense of humor and already respect all that is in my head. And of course I do clarify, letting them know I've been at this almost 5 years now
-
Wouldn't it be funny if your doctor looked at you with a puzzled face, pulls out a quarter, flips it, nods, writes in your chart, then tells you the results of your exam? Sorry, that mental image popped into my head after reading your paragraph. I'm at work between patients. If only patients knew what goes on in doctor noggins sometimes...... The difference is that I really DON'T care. Quarter flipping would sure make my life easier. Mental note to try that! Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

self esteem- Is it good? what is it really?
peregrinerose replied to Steel's topic in Speakers Corner
I'm not sure that using groups on the extremes of society really is all that valid for the norms. Not that I disagree with what you said though, I'm probably proof of it to some degree. My self esteem was totally non-existant until my late teens/early 20s. So I was an overachiever in music and school. I tried to compensate for being pathologically insecure by excelling at something, in the hopes that someone would find my pathetic existance worthwhile. Never worked. Now I have fairly healthy self esteem. I know my flaws, but know my strengths too, I'm happy in my own skin. And also not killing myself trying to proove something to the world. I also agree with a previous post that self esteem is something internal. However, outside factors do help mold it. If you're told every day you're worthless and unlovable, it's really tough to believe otherwise. Julia Roberts in 'Pretty Woman' summed it up that 'the bad things are so much easier to believe than the good.' Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda -

Naah, that 'pet peeve' part would be too negatively connotated and irritate some. How about renaming it 'Anecdotal idiosyncratic case studies of behavioral patterns observed in individuals with two X chromosomal genotypes that may or not be representative of the entire population of the aforementioned group' Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

I don't think that any of us on here would be with our men if we didn't love every last thing about him. The dinner thing is a running joke between my husband and I. It literally takes a couple hours for us to determine this, we start calling each other around 5 if I'm going to be home at 8 so that it's covered. It's nuts and we usually end up going to the store to browse and laughing at our own indecisiveness. I can't think of anything I don't love about my husband. We can have pet peeves and still find the humor in them. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
