  1. I don't have a problem with the hunting part, but the $1000 to the family is just not right. Make-a-Wish is for the KIDS, not for the family. Every effort should be made to grant as many wishes as possible, but there's just no way that everyone can be served. A kid doesn't benefit from that $1000, so it should really be used for another child. How many living children could have had their dreams filled with that $3000-$4000 per year that goes to families? It violates the whole point of the foundation. Multiply that over several years, and that's a lot of money. If these people had such differing views from the organization, they shouldn't be on the board to begin with, and start their own non-profit instead. I'm on the board of 2 national non-profits, and if I didn't believe in them, or how they do things, I wouldn't give my time and effort to it either. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  2. Personally I hate no child left behind BS. Teachers have to teach students how to do well on freaking standardized testing instead of actually how to think. Kids don't learn creative thinking, they learn how to be drones and memorize and regurgitate information. It's pissing off a lot of teachers too. Makes me almost want to home school when I have rugrats, but I like my job too much to be a stay at home mom. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  3. I don't think this is necessarily a great idea. Accidents happen. How will you feel if someone you 'recruited' got hurt? Anyone who has voluntarily left a plane is not the same person as they were the moment before exiting the aircraft. I agree it is valuable experience, and changes the perspective of how one looks at things. But it isn't for everyone. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  4. I went through OD school where we had our first patients as 3rd year students. We were always directly supervised by our instructors, nothing got missed or done poorly, and it is probably a far more comprehensive eval than at a regular doc's office. As students we have to learn it all, so as patients you get it all. Plus pay less for it. If it wasn't for patients willing to trust themselves in the hands of a student and supervising licensed doc of any kind, there would be a lot of docs practicing with no experience. So if you do consider it, thank you. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  5. Hippos don't have big honkin' tails though do they? Oh does that ever sound like a bad joke though... 'what do they say about a guy with a big tail??' Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  6. You are not kidding there! I was impressed that he actually went through all the firefighter training that a regular firefighter would as well as worked for a Baltimore fire company for several weeks in order to prepare for the movie. And he's pretty eyecandy for us girls too
  7. I agree. Maybe he just moved his tail very very slowly, so that it moved like a cedar (which doesn't move very much at all ) That sentence can be taken both ways. It would be interesting to know the original translation. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  8. As a total newbie to skydiving, makes me aware of just what can go wrong, keeps me realistic and asking questions. Plus keeps me entertained when it's slow at work. And speaker's corner makes me think a lot, I like that. Even if everyone on there is all wrong. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

  11. I wonder if his dick had feathers that he could mistake it for a chicken?? And why would he be holding a chicken that close to the goods to kill it? Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  12. I wish that I could go out there myself and meet people and get a better feel for how things really are. What is on the news isn't daily life of normal people, it is the violence, anything they can get video of. Normal life isn't ratings worthy. The Muslims that I have interacted with here, more when I worked in Phila than in this area, were always extremely curtious and pleasant people. It is nice to read Paj's and others first hand experience though. It means more than what is blasted on CNN. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  13. Clicked on your pics. You are absolutely beautiful by the way. (why can girls say other girls are attractive, but guys would die before saying another guy is cute... assuming all parties are straight??) I think your hair would look good no matter what you did with it. Don't cut it off insanely short, maybe start with 3-4 inches off and see how you like it. Just go from there. 14. 'she said in retrospect that the device sounded exactly like a vibrator...' Poor her for using that quote, now everyone knows more about her personal life than she probably intended for them to know!! Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  15. This is truly insane. A teacher is supposed to take Bush off of a montage of presidents simply because he is running for re-election??? STUPID! Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  16. I have long hair now, and did 4 years ago when I chopped off 14 inches to donate to wigs for kids. Locks of love is the other organization that does the same thing. I'm glad I did it, was very easy to take care of, though very weird brushing my hair and finding more than a foot of it missing. Now I'm back to long hair again, and am entertaining the thought of doing wigs for kids again. There's no right or wrong, go with your gut and what you like/want. 17. I just did last week. Guy and his 12 mos pregnant wife broken down (though I didn't see the wife in the car til after I stopped). Took him to Walmart to get the things he thought he needed to fix it, still didn't work, so I drove them home. Ate up 2 hours of my time, but it was worth it to them. 18. My husband and I are infinitely more worried about each other than ourselves. I landed a bit out, near an electric fence, yesterday, he told me he was a mess thinking I'd hit it. Landed fine, no where near the fence, at least 50 feet away, but he was still concerned for me. I can't stand watching him leave a plane or to watch him in freefall before I exit. 19. It sucks that you are going through this and have met with a lot of unhappy surprises along the way. But I also agree with the caveat emptor poster too. You put your hands in the life of this gear, so to buy gear without knowing anything at all about jumping is doing things backwards. I only have 10 jumps and don't know crap about gear yet. But I'm buying my first rig tomorrow. I trust the owner of the DZ I'm buying it from. He's also a master rigger. I spent a rainy afternoon there with him teaching me about different containers, canopy materials, canopy designs, etc. After discussing what I was looking for and spending a couple hours of him teaching me, we narrowed down what I needed and he fortunately had a rig available that would work. Take this as a learning experience not to rush headlong into big purchases. Be thankful it isn't something more expensive a problem than some upgrades to your rig. You will be wiser next time. 20. Good luck! I'm doing my first post-AFF jumps tomorrow, after 3 weeks off due to weather issues and lack of funding. Scares the living piss out of me. Decided to do a coaching jump first since it's been a few weeks, then a couple shits and giggles jumps just for me, alone. My motivation is the $300 I just spent on a jumpsuit, the $1800 I'm forking out for my first rig tomorrow, and the grins on my husbands and my face when we are both on the ground and heading back to the hangar after being on the same jump load and anticipating getting back in the sky. You're definitely not alone with this. My husband has 50ish jumps now, but he went through all this psychomess too.
  21. I have learned a LOT from other people on here. This isn't really about changing other peoples' minds, but at least understanding where they're coming from and honing our own debating skills. Maybe even refining our own opinions a bit, not changing, just getting better at rationalizing them. Besides, I kinda like ya'll, much more lively conversatins here than Bonfire!! 22. I agree. I wanted to cattle prod his ass into spitting out his words instead of hmmmmmmmmmmming all the time. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  23. Better hand over a kidney then, I'm a repub. I do think that both had a few good points. I think that both repeated themselves ad nauseam. I hated Bush's leaning, but hated Kerry's constant scribbling too. $10 says they were just doodles
  24. The toughest thing after divorce is learning to trust again. I had the practice marriage too. My husband now was for the early part of our relationship very hurt that I didn't totally give him my heart, didn't totally trust him. He was right, I was really short changing us. It took time and healing, but he now has my trust completely and this marriage is more special and close and true than my first one. I was on the other end, was with a married guy. After that, if Chad cheated, he'd be out the door. The good part is that I know hell would freeze over before he'd hurt me in any way. He's the most loving and attentive and kind man I've ever met.
