  1. It's a 'birthday' card for a one day old hemorrhoid. Going to the store for monistat and coming home with a pack of yeast too. Goofy cards left around the house. Singing well known songs poorly and with spontaneously invented lyrics. Stretching out a tape measure and saying he loves me exactly that much... 25 feet and 3 inches. Inventing words that make sense but only we use in everyday vocabulary. Buying flowers for no reason at all and just leaving them somewhere already in a vase for me to find. Sending flowers on Valentine's day to a zit named Ignasious (aka Iggy) Turning his ass away when he really needs to let one rip. Being proud when I belch in public. Dancing in Home Depot to music only we can hear. Kisses in freefall. Being true to himself and loving me as I am, FOR the imperfections not instead of them. Taking the dogs out in the pouring rain. Knowing the one would do anything for the other, but never taking advantage of that. Playing, laughing, giving the best gift of all... smiles. Board games on rainy days and never letting the other win. The look in his eyes when they meet mine that can not be described. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  2. My husband says that romance is making me smile and being unexpected. Apparently, then, romance is one of his raunchier farts that occurs completely unexpectedly and you just have to laugh through the tears. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  3. I had all my gear purchased by jump 15 or so. The rig was used, but serves my purposes quite well, I'm happy with it, and it saved me a fortune in gear rentals. For now, with 70+ jumps, I have no desire to downsize, my .97 wing loading is just fine with me. I talked with several folks at the DZ, especially the master rigger there, and followed their recommendations since I was (and still am) too new to make a decision like this completely independently. And I wanted their feedback as to when I was ready to go from a student rig to my own. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

  6. A patient once told me that rinsing his eyes with the first urine of every morning keeps them healthy. Maybe you could take his advice? Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  7. I did propose to my ex husband. Note the 'ex' in front of husband. I think guys tend to be more commitment phobic, so it's better to let them come to you and not scare the shit out of them by proposing to them. But every couple is different, she should do what sits right with her, it doesn't matter what any of us think. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  8. You need to contact Jamie Sides at Chambersburg. Hell of a skydiver, I love to watch him just come screaming in for his landings knowing full well I'll never be as talented a jumper as he is. He's an AFF instructor, does video, etc. And he only has one usable eye. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  9. I jump at both Maytown and Chambersburg. Cburg has a bigger staff and a king air (probably a bit easier exit for you than a cessna. I would definitely suggest calling there, talk with Kathie. www.skydivingcenter.net is the web page. manifest@skydivingcenter.net is the email addy. Phone is 1800-526-3497. Very friendly DZ and wonderful staff. If you do jump, let me know, I'll introduce my husband and myself, so you'll already know a couple folks at the DZ. We're there every weekend since we both pack. 10. As a newbie just past 50 jumps myself, I think this was well said. The dangerous part of jumping (or any hobby/profession) is not knowing just how much you don't know. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

  12. I had a patient come in for eye emergency (metal in eye) and I had to numb the eye to dig out the crap he had in there. He had a drug test the next day due to being on probation. He tested postive for cocaine and came back to me panicking because he had never used cocaine in his life, and wanted to know if any of the drops used could have done it. The anesthetic I use is proparacaine, a synthetic very weak cocaine analog. It drains through the sinuses, absorbed into the blood stream, and apparently in his case caused a false positive. On the topic, I agree that random drug testing should not be done. But jumpers under the influence should not be jumping either, and its up to us to take care of each other in that respect. 13. My two pet piggers are named Bacon and Pork Chop. So I guess they are just destined to be someones dinner eventually. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  14. www.operationfreefall.com It is the info for this year, but probably works the same way every year. Raise $500 and you get a tandem. You could either get a bunch of friends that had that 'I always wanted to try that" attitude and help get them the chance to make that reality for a good cause, or raise money yourself and do a fun jump that day. I raised $2200 this year. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

  17. Honestly, if you are questioning if you are ready, you may not be ready. Just my humble opinion though, and I don't have many more jumps than you. Instead of blowing through tons of money with the travelling, why don't you get involved with one of the already established skydiving charity events like Operation Freefall or Jump for the Cause? 18. Thank you for the links! I've been digging up as much as possible on greyhound care all day. We knew we'd adopt, I just wasn't expecting to find a good dog for us so quickly. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  19. Well, plan on seeing the greyhound doggie at the dz. I plan on having him be my travel dog since he'll be much calmer than my other 2 dogs. Our pets are well loved, I can't imagine our home without them. Stop by and visit sometime, you can meet the whole gang! Starting this week, I have every Sunday off. Starting in July I'll also have every other Saturday off. I have this coming Wed off as well, so if the weather's nice I'll be at the DZ then too. You working that day?? Oh, how was your daughter's jump? Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

  22. http://www.nittanygreyhounds.org/A-Thomas.html The above is the dog we're going to adopt. He comes home Monday. I have a stumpy tail cattle dog and they are supposed to be smart, but she's dumb as a brick. Like your greyhound, she makes up for it in lovableness
  23. The only reason we navigated to greyhounds was the recent track closing and so many needing homes. All of my animals were adopted from the humane league except one cat, and he was on his way to the humane league. A patient was crying when she came in for her contact lens check, she had to take her new kitten there since her roommate was allergic to it. I had to make her stop crying to evaluate the contacts, so told her I'd take the kitten and give it a good home instead of just hoping it would get adopted. That kitten is now a 26 lb monster cat that purrs constantly. The only cat I've ever liked I can't imagine actually getting an animal from a breeder/pet store when there are so many that have been abused or abandoned and need homes. My neighbors are just as bad, they have probably 6 cats and 5 dogs right now. All spoiled rotten. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  24. The grey we narrowed it down to has been in a foster home for a while, so is fine with small animals. He's a little over 5 years old, and very shy from what the foster home says. He does open up once more comfortable. Greys never know how to do stairs or play, they have to be taught. The dogs live in kennels their entire lives and have no concept of home life, it's why they freak out at weird things initially. My husband's boss has one, Ringo, who's 13 or so, and a total sweetheart, loves people and attention. I also know a couple that have made very good therapy dogs. The skin thing concerns me just because my two dogs can play rough, so we'll have to see how that goes. I do get a 2 week trial with the dog before finalizing adoption though, to make sure it is compatible in our household. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  25. I wish I could go jump all day ;-) I get home early on Tuesdays, and Maytown is close, so easy to get a jump or two in. Chad and I pack at Cburg on weekends to pay for our addiction, it's the only way we can afford to jump and we both enjoy it anyway. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
