    SarcMark

Actually, it has. Granted, you'd have had a hard time finding it though.
  2. I honestly can't imagine the word "boring "being used while one falls thru the sky,,, Especially on a jump as important and demanding as that one!

    Fandango

Hey, I didn't even have anyone on the ground showing me where to go! Heck, they didn't even give me a parachute for my first jump!
  4. I think it was the obvious choice - works well enough for me. 'iSlate' and 'iTablet' are ugly words by comparison, although I guess 'iTab' would have been ok. But sooner or later I think it'll benefit Apple to ditch the 'i' brand altogether, and start being a bit more adventurous. I've been trying to think of an accent that would cause you to confuse 'iPod' with 'iPad', but I didn't come up with anything.

    Jury Duty

I agree. I'm surprised how many try to avoid it, and I think they're right to put pressure on people to serve. If the only jurors who turn up willingly are those with no other commitments then they're going to end up with a pretty skewed group. And from my past experience - while I don't consider myself super-smart, or a shining beacon of justice - having met one or two of my fellow jurors I couldn't help but think, thank God I'm here to help redress the balance.
  6. Oh, thank God! I read from the beginning wihout noticing the date and I was thinking, hold on - this guy airtwardo, who everyone jokes is older than time, is only a few years older than me! Still the case, but at least I'm further behind than I thought. Really nice story, by the way. First time I'd seen it too.
  7. That's the new string section music app, right?
  8. If they allowed topless photos for passport ID they'd never be able to identify anyone!! Actually, I heard that's going to be the new standard soon. Then they're going to check your identity using this
  9. Thought that was quite common knowledge - but then it's not unusual to fantasise about stuff that we would never want to happen in reality.
  10. I like it, but of course as a cat she doesn't care or even know what she's called. My favourite names for pets are the non-cutesy ones that are normally only used for humans - Kevin, Brian, Julie etc. For some reason they crack me up.

    xbox 360 help

I asked because I had the same problem with GTA IV (until the unit just gave me RRoD and I just got a new one). The idea to load the games into the hard drive is a good one. I third that. Just so you know, you'll still need to insert the disk when you want to play the game, but the console only has to read enough of it to verify that it's a genuine copy. After that it will just use the hard drive, which has the advantage that it's faster AND it reduces the wear on your DVD drive - so you're less likely to have the same problem recur.
  12. Agreed - nice performances, some great tension and a decent (if not very original) theme. My only complaint is that I found the twitchy camerawork a bit of a distraction. It's just become overused in general. I've got a high tolerance for hand-held, shaky camera and I think it's good at putting the viewer into the action. A bit of whip pan is ok as well, since it's a decent representation of how we move our heads in response to noises and stuff. But what's with all these sudden little zooms? What's that supposed to represent? They bug me because they're showy and unneccesary.
  13. Is it as convincing as 'Dog The Bounty Hunter'?

    Help Haiti

Gia, thanks for this. Slightly off-topic, but I saw a picture this morning of a weeping father holding the body of his baby. It broke my heart, but it also made me angry that it's apparently ok to splash the faces of a desperately grieving man, and of his dead child, across the front page of a London newspaper. I know this is nothing new, but I can't help thinking it's accepted because these people are stereotyped as generic victims - you know, foreigners living thousands of miles away in an area prone to natural disasters. I guess it does help to raise funds, in the same way as pictures of starving children do - but still, it leaves a nasty taste in the mouth. That said, I will give - preferably to a reputable organisation that's using donations directly towards rescue or aid work. And even if a large parts gets skimmed off for admin, so what? There's no way to help physically. It's donate money, or do nothing.
  15. MikeJD - Yes! With guitar around the bonfire! I thought it was great! Thanks! Ever since hearing someone's spirited rendition of 'The Phantom Tenth Man' by the Tecumseh bonfire one night, I've been a sucker for the old skydiving songs and poems. The older the better, since the mysterious references to now forgotten equipment, traditions and personalities just add to the poetry.
  16. Jean, like your poems! Here's one I made earlier. It's recycled from a Safety and Training thread, so a bit preachy for The Bonfire - but it's all I've got right now!

    Online banking

I was pretty late coming to online banking too, but I think it's great. I'm financially better off, because having such easy visibility of my money makes me manage it much better. I never even used to open the paper statements that came through the post. I think people's security concerns are the biggest barrier, but you just have to be heads-up - for example, making sure you only use the URLs you know are valid, rather than following links in emails etc. Also, because you can check your accounts so easily you get very early sight of any suspicious transactions.
  18. Thanks, Nat. You just reminded me why it's really not so bad being single.
  19. Unlike the UK - which looks like this right now. If you could zoom in far enough, you'd see that everything has ground to a halt, the way it generally does when we get more than an inch of snow. Looks like Southern Ireland is the place to be right now. Must be the Gulf Stream effect.
  20. I didn't even get that far. I was thinking, that's all we need - more bloody YouTube links! I reckon we need a YouTube link forum, to save me continually opening threads that are no use to me at work.
  21. It's been pretty widely reported, but so far no specific release date or price that I know of. Although I have heard 'later this year' and 'affordable', whatever that means. Edited to add: The photos I've seen make it look like it's built mainly from expanded polystyrene. No surprises there given the need to keep it light and robust, but I always think that stuff looks cheap and ugly. It's a shame you can't seem to mould it with a really smooth surface.
