Is anyone else old enough to remember that? .. Jeeeze Yes. At least, I remember it being on - and I remember Anthony Andrews' character throwing up from fear after disarming a bomb. Other than that, nothing. For bomb disposal scenes, I rate The English Patient. Again, no idea how accurate that is - but it feels realistic, and I thought the tension was actually better handled than in The Hurt Locker. Like when Kip is trying to defuse the bomb in the ditch while the American tanks are rumbling overhead and making everything vibrate: "This is making me incredibly angry!"

The ending would have been worse for me had James realised what he was missing at home, turned himself around and lived happily ever after with his family. That would have been pat and unsatisfying. But I didn't find him a convincing character either way. He was so blank that I didn't feel any connection to him through the entire movie - hence there was nothing to sever at the end. I found the film entertaining enough and occasionally great, but too self-conscious. As you said, the twitchy camera is intrusive and I'm fed up of that shooting style now. It's everywhere, in movies and TV, and it just seems a poor substitute for pointing the camera at a scene or an actor capable of holding your attention.

Only disappointing if you think movies should have redemptive endings. Some of my favourite movies don't.

OK, since the thread is already bumped: wouldn't Jackie Brown fit the bill? Not an action or effects movie - really just honed down to the storytelling, the acting and the dialogue. And possibly still my favourite Tarantino film. Edited to add: maybe the storytelling credit ought to go to Elmore Leonard, but I haven't read the source novel so I'm not sure how faithful to it the movie is.

Um, isn't it possible for you to be good friends with a 'Homo'?

Does a layer of athletic mesh make a big difference on a jumpsuit?
MikeJD replied to k-dubjumps's topic in The Bonfire
Think you can use this. -
Wow, that's pretty cool - I've never heard of a cat that would bring in a live animal and then just relinquish it without harm. Normally they're not content until they've (eventually) killed the poor thing.

The odds are even worse if you're N/R curious.

Torso measurement too short?

I think we ought to be getting some nice sunsets, but I haven't noticed any. However I can confirm, just by looking at the unblemished blue sky over the UK, that there ain't nobody flying yet. It actually looks a little odd without all those vapour trails...

At your age that sounds like a nice problem to have.

Did you have a general or just a local anaesthetic? I only had one removed, and that was just with a local. Didn't hurt, but it was a pretty violent procedure - all that wrenching! The worst thing is trying to keep the food out of the empty sockets until they heal - it's just annoying. Stay away from rice!

Well, I hope you're only advising the first timers. Because everyone else has more jumps than you.
-
So, just a leaky AN-2 then.

I think there's a middle ground of jumpers with some experience who think they know it all and like to look down on people who are greener than they are. But the really experienced and successful skydivers, the world champions? In my experience they are some of the most likeable and least condescending people I've met. What gets my goat isn't the attitude of experienced to inexperienced skydivers: it's the attitude of jumpers in general to non-jumpers.

Reminds me of Brass Eye. More subversive than Ali G and Borat - went too far for many people. The 'Drugs' episode, featuring the perils of 'Cake', was genius.

ebaumsworld.com is itself evil, according to the many people who say the site stole their stuff and presented it as its own. But that's the internet for you - don't put anything online and expect to retain ownership of it.

I don't see what difference it makes. But then I'm a townie, so what would I know?

WOW, clothes that transform , do that only do it on full moons?? Squeak, if you're going to mock the language in somebody's post, you might want to check that your own makes sense!

Oh. That means mine won't fire until I've made a crater several hundred feet deep.

Reasons for an AAD other than yourself.
MikeJD replied to cocheese's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yeah, and good luck with that. I've never been in this situation, but I have a feeling Hollywood makes it look rather easier than it actually is. I hope s/he was planning on getting knocked out nice and high up, because you've no friends below three thousand feet! -
with or without an AAD? UDD. Udders Dangling Down? I was just thinking UDDers, but now you've put me on the spot I'm going to have to go with Udder Deployment Device. Whatever that could possibly mean.
