  1. This is good advice. One of my reserve activation steps, the one right after I make the decision to use my reserve, is to put my feet on my ass. The goal is to make sure I'm in a head-high position when I pull my reserve. Lots of wind across my back to help ensure there will be no reserve pilot chute hesitation. 2. These are not the only materials used. This page has a link to the manual for riggers titled FAA Handbook 8083-17. It has tons of information about the various materials and what they are used for in skydiving. http://www.parachutemanuals.com/Other/ "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
  3. always good to review the articles here http://www.dropzone.com/safety/Gear_and_Equipment/index.shtml "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
  4. Because of the lawsuits and the fact that there has been indications that lawyers are watching this thread, it is important that we take the high road and avoid giving the bad guys ammunition during the lawsuit. 7. I was out of the sport for 16 years, 1987-2003. I'm 5'9", 180 lbs and I'm now 50 years young. I came back and I'm jumping a Pilot 188 which has really nice openings and I have no plans to down size or swoop anything. Parachutes land a little differently now than they did back in the day. They have more forward speed so you should consider jumping student gear a bit before you buy something. I still had my old gear, an old Wizard main and a 26' lopo reserve. After I bought the Pilot I made some jumps on the DZ's 210 before I jumped it just to manage the transition. The instructors/riggers at your DZ will have lots of good ideas on whats right for you. Work with the instructors at your DZ. The people I worked with were really good to me. They had me review EPs and do an IAD, then a Hop N Pop, followed by a 5 second delay, and a 10 second delay. The idea was to make sure I still knew how to deploy my parachute and fall stable. After that I was cleared to the roof. I did a lot of solo jumps for a while after that and then started back at 2 ways and worked my way back up. Best thing I ever did was get back into skydiving. 8. I can't go there is it doesn't exist. It does not exist, therefore I am absolutely sure I am not going there. Edit to add: One reference for Hell not existing http://www.144000.net/newindex/topics/2004/01/does_hell_exist.htm "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
  9. Changes in lines and canopies have resulted in slower openings being the norm these days. As such, would moving the AAD cutter to the main also require higher activation of the AAD? "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
  10. This ain't it but there is a whole lot of very old stuff here. Great for a Grandmother. http://jackbaird.spebsqsa.org/ "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
  11. Here is a resource that has pretty good information. I took a course related to this topic when I got divorced and I know that it has helped me be a better parent to my son as he has lived with this situation. http://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/publicat/mh-sm/divorce/index.html Edit to add: Here's the table of contents from the page above. This will get you to the information faster. http://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/publicat/mh-sm/divorce/toc_e.html "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
  12. Have you called them and asked them why it is taking so long? If so, what did they say? That would be my first step. "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
  13. One. It was a planned pregnancy and we were expecting a positive result.
  14. Obviously, are you telling me you dont pay a bit extra when they give you more? If you dont throw in a few bucks for extra altitude you are jewing them out of their money for the fuel costs Is this just a cry for attention? Please refrain from the continued use of this offensive slur. "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy

  17. I've only had one - a long time ago - 1981 I think... RR#1-Line over on a ParaCommander Good old tapewells and a belly mount 24' ripstop reserve saved my life. Here is a picture of the reserve container some 20 odd years after it saved me. "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
  18. From their web site http://www.alti-2.com/accessories.htm altimaster galaxy / stratosphere lens This replacement screw-in lens is suitable for the new Altimaster galaxy and stratosphere only, the older Altimaster III lens can only be replaced at the factory. It is important NOT to push down on a lens when you are removing the old lens or inserting a new one, pushing down just locks the lens into the thread and makes it difficult to turn. If you have any problem in removing a lens we suggest you use a "sticky pad" such as the type used for removing the lids of jars. 19. Correction needed for a Canadian dropzone on the listing page. Skydive Burnaby is not in British Columbia, but rather it is in Ontario. Yes it seems strange to me too, but they didn't ask me when they named the dropzone. If they had I would have told them to either move it to British Columbia or call it something else. To get to Skydive Burnaby from British Columbia you have to go to the other side of the mountains, across the prairies, past forests of northern Ontario and you'll find it snuggled in by Lake Erie - not that far from Buffalo in the States. Click on the link and Google will show you where it is! "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
  20. I agree with Lisa, I use a Brandi Belt and its a great product. Just one thing, FliteSuit uses UPS. If you can male alternate arrangements for shipping do so. UPS sucks, especially into Canada where their brokerage fees for handling customs will exceed the original cost of a Brandi Belt and actual shipping costs. UPS sucks!
