Anyone ever heard of a cross ported Spectre?
Calvin19 replied to GoHuskers's topic in Gear and Rigging
when I had ~15 jumps I bought a well used Saber 170 (totally airworthy, but older) and after a few jumps on it one of the packers at good 'ol mile high told me "you're not jumping that thing again, the cells are blown up", I protested and told him that those are cross-ports, essentially every ram air canopy ever built has those holes. He went and asked an instructor, and no shit. Those are supposed to be there. -
When will ISS get a Nautilus-X sleep module? That seems like something that should be figured out before interplanetary stuff gets going.

Coach Jumps Now Required Until 'A' License

Wait... two A jumpers cannot jump together? -
TSA "has prevented millions of potential threats"
Calvin19 replied to futuredivot's topic in Speakers Corner
Huh. ~4,600 people tried to illegally carry a gun onto a plane? Some small part of me wants to say bullshit. But hell, they have the power. I fly my own plane to get places. -
I understand the ISS is holding in LEO. I assume from the posted weight and size that the overall projected cross section is quite large for it's weight. What kind of orbit maintenance is needed to keep it at it's desired speed and altitude? Energy (N) needed? What kind of engines does it use for this?

Most of skydiving is vanity, don't spread your legs. You look like a moron.

Is anyone jumping a deployable speedflier canopy?
Calvin19 replied to phoenixlpr's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
You obviously know nothing of dynamic soaring. Speed gliders are very capable of maintaining energy and stability through the abusive sheer layers required for dynamic soaring. The kid in the video (an idiot) is gaining altitude so fast he broke his paragliding variometer, so he borrowed a friends skydive altimeter. He launched from a grain silo in a tornado. -
Canada is a free country too?

I voted for go for the treatment. There is something to be said about helping out experimental treatments. Edit: irrelevant opinions deleted. I did not realize how close to home this thread was. Even though it is the bonfire, I don't have any intention of stepping on someones feelings. I hope no one is quoting me right now.

How is speedriding any different from...
Calvin19 replied to jrjny's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
There are GAPERs in every sport, and pretty much anyone trying to foot launch a skydiving canopy takes the cake. -
Well the pilot without a doubt held it in a spin, maybe not on purpose though. I can't imagine a tailwheel pilot that cannot recognize a spin. Seemed like a few jumpers were in on it though, and a few of them not.

In most cases, yes. Stowing behind my head takes me all of about 5 seconds, and requires no rigging back on the ground. For me that is a much better solution than a removable slider. My god I love this shit. For a canopy-flight specific jump, I think a removable slider is not that big of a deal. Most likely the pilot is opening right out the door, and at slow speed. -SPACE-

Pretty sure the pilot was wearing one. Jumping out of a spinning plane is fun as hell. Almost as fun as letting jumpers out of a spinning one. But maybe this one is not on purpose?

Don't write shit like that on the internet. People might pull their heads out of their asses. -
? Explain in other words... not acceptable. Chuck I thought what you were saying by "don't cut it" you were meaning "don't get the vas" as in don't get a vasectomy. Because I would have a serious problem with that, if that is what you meant. No, I have no problem with vasectomies! I've used that old saying all my life when I don't agree with something or just plain, find something un-acceptable. Chuck Good to hear.

I would make that decision based on how bad the fire was. Magnesium spar with an incompetent pilot I would be getting out at any alitude I could get. All the way in. Parachutes work on airspeed, not altitude.
