Riser length advantages/disadvantages Longer vs shorter

I took some lessons in high school after I built two hang gliders, one for a school project. (2002/2003) I have a 1990 Light Dream 205, it's a big and very docile glider. I have not flown in years and just rigged it for the first time since 2007 yesterday. Makes me want to fly it some more. -SPACE-

How Much Ammo Must One Have to Qualify As An Arsenal?
Calvin19 replied to ChileRelleno's topic in Speakers Corner
Forgive my ignorance, but Isn't a weapon that mechanically loads itself after being fired an automatic weapon? -
That happens surprisingly often. The pilots should have lasers that are 10x as powerful and just lase them right back. Any idiot lazing an airplane/spinner is too stupid to be wearing protective goggles.
-
Disregard my rude comments, I mean no offense. Been a long week, my fault. Stearmans are awesome. I only have an hour or so in one. You won't ever forget that.

All I said was look outside when your flying. PS. It's Alex's birthday tomorrow. We are going climbing. I'm gonna go take another shot of Jeremiah Weed.

Which would be?? Underqualified muppets with enough money to buy a false sense of security. It used to be V-tail Bonanzas (the Doctor killer) that took this kind of heat. Now it's the Cirrus. Don't you think it's a little ridiculous to paint such a broad generalization? I know several Cirrus owners who are competent and conservative and handle their plane quite well. If they walked down the flightline and climbed into a Mooney or Piper would they be any more capable? I have no doubt they are regular old Chuck Yeagers. I'm talking more about the CAPS and the F-22 avionics being attractive to people who would rather deploy a parachute than navigate or rather watch a blip on a TV screen than look outside. In reality I'm just a cynic that can't fly airplanes and lost my best friend to an idiot not looking where he was going. Nothing wrong with Cirrus airplanes, or mooneys, or bonanzas.

http://www.coloradodaily.com/ci_14348694#axzz1aDCeW5DH The tow plane pilot was a good friend of his. That's sucks, but there's no reason to hate on the aircraft itself. The airframe itself is awesome. I would fly one myself. It's the target market that I have a quarrel with. Which would be?? Underqualified muppets with enough money to buy a false sense of security.

Think I'm going to fly a SR-20 next week, been wondering how that thing felt in the sky, after seeing them parked all over the damn ramp here. Just remember to fly the thing, look outside, and ignore as much as possible the video game built into the panel.

How is speedriding any different from...

Isn't it amazing how far it has come in the last 5 years? -
Naw, for that type of conversation I usually bring up flying the B-24.....or the B-17....at Quincy. Bombers are cool and all, but fighters will always win. -SPACE-

I was under the impression the ghost was modified to only use one trim tab. (saw it on another aviation forum, so close to zero credibility) Sinceit was a fixed steabilizer do you know if the AOI was modified? [more ignorant speculation] I thought the video showed him in a high G turn, so he is already prepped for taking a good acceleration. When the tab or linkage failed, he went to a much higher G. I figure he had a second or two to level the wings, then went dark. Of course he was unconscious. [/speculation] -SPACE-

That video tells a good story of what happened. IMO the initial ~10 degree left/inbound was unintentional and a result of the airframe failure. The opposite roll, to the right to level wings was the pilot starting an emergency race exit maneuver. At the initial pitch up, that looked pretty intense, I am guessing he lost consciousness. Then you can see the trim tab falling off. Everything after that (from other videos) looks Smooth and unintentional. I'm no race pilot, but I would guess the first instinct of a pilot with an airframe issue in that race would roll level then gain as much altitude as possible. In airplanes, unlike car racing, you would want a lot of power in to get as high as possible to work out whatever is wrong. Thus, with the trim tab gone, he had different or no elevator feedback and at that speed could have easily over-pulled and blacked out. At this point, he was full power or at least high power until the end. You can see the pitch of the blades immediately before impact are VERY high AOA (high power setting) -SPACE-

not a chance gc......they are making no developmental differences in their wings except to go smaller with more plastic in the nose. GLX is the supreme wing available. Soaring, ripping et al Arguable. GLX is a hell of a wing if one can handle it, but it does not fit my venue or most others readily available in the rockies. In the Alps I would like to have my JVX. In most of the US I am much happier on a miniwing. There really is two different sports we are talking about here. Speed flying, ripping down stuff on irresponsibly small gliders. Then there is speed flying, hike and fly shallow lines that cannot even be navigated or launched on anything smaller than a 12m mini wing. Same name, different things. -SPACE- -
He would laugh too. I bet he laughs about it after it works out. If he wouldn't, I would hate to be his friend.

Preliminary report released. From NTSB.gov: Nothing new. No mention of a seat, and I still think the seat issue is irrelevant. All video, pictures and credible witness reports show the time of loss of control (meaning as soon as the plane became erratic and contrary to standard emergency race departure maneuvers.) was right as the trim tab departed from the tail.
-
You mean the roll proportionally cancels the vertical lift vector Also, with an expert pilot and an experimental fighter racer, the load and com/col balance may have been very different from standard aviation, making the neutral "untrimmed" (like a departed trim tab) be neutral or negatively balanced. I know I have flown competition sailplanes with a illegal CG once or twice. Just keep the speed up -SPACE-
-
What I took from his statement was the seat collapsed, obviously not forward/rear sliding. The airplane was modified beyond all reason to assume anything was stock. My guess is (-IF- there was a seat failure at all [irrelevant, really. The final cause of loss of control and doomed the airplane was without a doubt the departed trim tab] The pilots head even in the harness and intact seat could still bend down to not be visible) the seat was improvised and collapsed, tilting back or fallen into the fuselage.
-
fixed it a bit/agreed -SPACE-
-
Saw that. Very plausible. I assume the chair is modified for acceleration. Wether the chair or the trim tab caused the initial loss of control we will most likely never know for sure.

Inside joke or not, truer words are rarely spoken.
