How so? Whether the person said, "Stop it" or not, the issue really is, "Can you prove it even happened?" That's really why there's a question of whether it would go much further than an arrest. When a skydiver explains that he HAS to put his pelvis against the passenger's butt, that would probably cause the cop to not arrest the TM. But again, that does not involve pulling off someone's clothes. Geez, Bill, if I went up to a woman on a public bus, pulled up her skirt and buried my face in her crotch and started lickin', I'd be okay if I stopped when she said, "Stop it"??! -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... It's too late for anyone else to be posting to Speakers Corner, apparently, and so with dry threads and nothing new there, I came here. Congratulations, Bonfire -- you're my second choice! -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

Friend of mine called 'em "cottonheads". I was always partial to that afterward. "Q-tip" just confuses me -- I end up looking around for one of the guys from De La Soul... -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

British Liberal Charles Kennedy Admits Alcoholism, Quits As Party Leader I wonder if this is just something the "Kennedy" clan will always have to live with... (I do wonder if there's a blood-tie between Chuckie and Teddy... Hmmm... -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!" -
I'm not answering for John. My take on it was that the stripper partially denuded an unwitting (that's two Ts, not two Ls) participant. Had his actions met with actual scorn and been offensive to the OP, she could have had him arrested for sexual battery. That has nothing to do with the idea of convicting him, of course, but cops would arrest him, I'm pretty sure. "He called me to the stage but I had NO IDEA he was going to pull my fucking PANTS down! He went too far, totally without my consent to expose me and/or lick me." -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

Execution of elderly man in California
peacefuljeffrey replied to lawrocket's topic in Speakers Corner
Are you one of those people who argues that anyone who would murder HAS to be mentally ill, and therefore not responsible for having murdered? I think that is the biggest line of bullshit ever attempted. Seen it over and over: always makes me sick. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!" -
I'm only steppin' in the pile you left. You should have to buy me new shoes. Make it flip-flops; you can get away on the cheap, since I rarely wear "real" shoes. And I skydive barefoot. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

Ex-fuckin'-actly. Everyone wants to be a revisionist. The same reason that any territory in Europe ever changed hands hundreds of years ago is the same reason that settlers in America took land by force from the "Indians" here. But I don't hear anyone arguing for the native Frenchians to be given back territory that might now be Germany because some tribes in the 9th century or something conquered the Frenchians who were living there... But we Americans sure as hell catch shit for what "we" (you mean my Polish and Russian ancestors who were 100+ years from coming to the U.S.?) did to the Indians... -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

Great at gradually losing the majority of your "empire," yep-o! We got the paperwork to prove it! "U.S.A.!! U.S.A.!! U.S.A.!! U.S.A.!!" -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

Well, what does the law say? There ought to be something that would provide for how to handle such a "dispute". It sounds like bitterness on the part of the Spanish, to me. If you want to revisit history, why not go back centuries to when all the territory in Europe was changing hands when the Gauls, the Saxons, the Moors, the whoevers, were raping, pillaging and conquering? I mean, at what frozen point in time were all the properties in the hands they were "supposed" to be in? Territory has gone back and forth. Not every treaty ever signed was signed when the signators were in the best of positions. TFB. (Too Fuckin' Bad.) That's the way wars and treaties go! If someone wants back land that it lost after a war, it needs to go to war for it, or OFFER A FAIR PRICE. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... The only one of those who was a friend (IS a friend) is the first one, whose addiction to prescription painkillers cost him his marriage. Before you go judging me for the friends I keep, need I remind you that we have dz.commers with friends who've killed themselves with heroin overdoses? Why not come down on them like you've come down on me? Oh, that wouldn't be polite, right? -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

It is whatever it is. I'm not trying to make it seem like anything. Bullshit! You clearly were trying to make it seem like you stand to just as easily be suspected, charged, and wrongly convicted and executed for murder as you managed to win the raffle. Why back away from your thesis now? The fact remains, you aren't nearly as at risk to come under a false murder conviction as you tried to make it seem. And if you're saying now that you weren't trying to make it seem that way, I call "bullshit." -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

But you had also written: If you have no problem with attacking the idea of a (U.K.-style) ban iin the U.S.A., then please do so. Write letters to those who are trying to push such a ban, opposing the idea of it, as you say you do. Pure sophistry. I don't know why you bother. Clearly it won't be actual Brits, but people in legislative positions of power and advocacy in the U.S. acting on the suggestions of Brits, who will attempt to strip from us our right to keep and bear arms. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

I don't think it's nearly as difficult to avoid being suspected of murder than you are making it seem. I don't think that random, everyday people who are living within the law and normal society just get scooped up off the street and put on trial for murder. And the "number" you suggested was "all." All of them. You want every single death penalty case to be 100% correct and accurate in its verdict. That doesn't happen in ANY category of criminal case. You are holding a man-made system to an impossible standard (perfection). The only perfectly true thing about judicial findings is that they will never be 100% faultless. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

"Bird Flu Spreads Across Turkey"

When I was a kid, there was a book in our school library called The Hoboken Chicken Emergency. I don't remember it very clearly, but it was about a giant chicken running through the city of Hoboken, NJ. -
I can't name a number for what's good enough. But until our system can achieve 100%, I say we set aside the DP. Oh, puhlease. And you'll say that's reasonable? 100% success rate is all you'll accept? (And who are you kidding about not having a number that's good enough? You have a number that would be good enough for you, and you stated it.) You ought to quit skydiving. And we ought never send another ship across the ocean, or rocket into space. We also ought to never do another cardiac bypass surgery... -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

The fact that the death penalty is not a deterrent to murder is not a valid reason to oppose it, given the fact that life in prison also fails to be a deterrent to murder. I strongly feel that the act of murder causes one to forfeit his life -- which should then be taken from him by society as soon as practical, after, of course, a fair trial. Part of what is broken -- as it was previously stated the system is broken -- is the length of time a convicted murderer gets to appeal his sentence. 20 years, 25 years, even TWO years is far too long. If we fixed that, then the financial cost of supporting a convicted murderer on death row and through numerous appeals would be a nonissue. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

The funny thing is, I've totally lost track of what it was that supposedly gave lisamariewillbe her "reason" to be so angry and hateful toward me. Oh well. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!" -
You can help us out, then, by telling international gun prohibitionists like Rebecca Peters, who work with the fuckin' U.N. to extend gun control like you have in the U.K. to countries that don't want it and shouldn't have it, like the U.S. We are not the ones "dragging other countries into this." There are those in the U.K. and elsewhere who vocally tell US that WE should import U.K.-style gun bans. Why should we be restricted from advocating gun ownership abroad, then? But there I go again, "stirring the pot"... Not contributing anything to the discussion. At least I don't just drop into a thread to criticize what others choose to talk about and then not say anything related to the thread's topic. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind...
