Found myself agreeing with PEACEFULJEFFREY!!
peacefuljeffrey replied to peacefuljeffrey's topic in Speakers Corner
Pro-gun including military weapons. Can you imagine if 'well regulated militia' was true. People should be allowed to buy a F-16 if they use it for national defense. This has been discussed ad nauseum and your assertions disproven with the use of contemporary writings and opinions of the framers of the Constitution. They wanted the common man armed like an infantryman would be for the time. Rights?! Wrong! Killing your baby because it is inconvenient is just plain evil! I'm closer to feeling this way than I ever was before, but I realize that prohibiting it will never stop it, just make it unsafe for the woman. So what's the point? Drugs are bad and must be illegal. It is the government's responsiblity to protect its citizens. Weed is cool though, but legal I dunno. It's absurd for you to support doing it but also support it not being legal. You're arguing what, that it should be okay for you to do it but not okay to do it? If you think it's not a bad or evil or harmful thing to do, you should not be hypocritical and say that for the general population, it should remain illegal. What harm would come of legalization? Do you think that, as easy as pot is to get, that there are loads of potheads-in-waiting who don't do it currently, because it's illegal? I don't believe that more than maybe ten people in the whole country are eager to try it but are waiting for the day it becomes legal. Yes,reasonable and also a source of revenue. That's OK I suppose, then, that you drive 35 where it says 35, because you think it is reasonable, and speeds over that are unreasonable. I guess you drive 55 on 55 highways, and 65 on 65 highways, and no more. If not, you're being hypocritical. And it is NOT "OK" to use the law strictly to make money off those who don't obey it. Speed limits have no legitimate purpose except to limit speeds to that which is safe in general. Uses beyond that are corrupt and illegitimate. Yes, he is a wonderful human being, as long as he doesn't reside at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. LOL! I guess we agree there. (But you were not the person I was asking if he agreed with me, in the first place.) You mean God! Hell yes! I don't capitalize that name. If it meant something to me, I might. Eating a T-bone right this minute! Thank you George Forman. Ya gotta love steaks and those grills! -
Why? You got a problem with people around the dorm knowin' yer fuckin'?! How do you think you get all the other girls in the dorm hot for you?! LOL! Those who are gettin' it are more attractive to those who want it. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

I check the gear of those around me all the time anyway. Not looking for a reward. Finding something wrong and possibly saving someone from injury and/or death is my reward. I've spotted untucked closing pin covers and riser covers, but never anything that would have likely killed anyone yet. I'm glad. That'd be spooky. One time, my former instructor Dave Cole saw me getting on a load and said, "Be careful." He was talking about some wind and and stuff coming in from the east to Pahokee, but he got me into a "check everything out" mindset, and I looked again at my chest strap and found that I had misrouted it, and all that would have held it would be the elastic keeper! Now, this is something I would have been checking in the plane prior to exit, but extra checks are way cool too, and I was glad he had planted the seeds of safety in my head. He's a great guy in general, and was serving as my skydive-conscience when I was too new to be able to ground myself if condiditions were too windy for me. It was nice to have someone with superior experience stand in the way of me getting myself hurt. I'll always be thankful to Dave and to J.C. Perren for doing that stuff for me when I was jumping at Skydive SoBe.

So then you: are anti-gun are anti-abortion rights are pro-"war-on-drugs" (anti-legalization) think the speed limits are reasonable and not just a revenue grab think Kerry is a wonderful human being believe in god are vegan... All of these are opinions I have expressed are the antithesis of my own. Never agreed with even one of them? Wow! Blue skies, - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... I had forgotten the countdown! It is way closer, since the last time I took notice of it! Wow! I can't wait! My plan is to get a bunch of cheap genuine Glock full cap .40 cal magazines. Maybe even a G22 to go with my G27. I'm very psyched for the return of our rights.

Shit, there's always a more heinous law brewing. I read somewhere that in every legislative session, there is a proposed Constitutional amendment attempted that says, "The Second Amendment of the Constitution of the United States is hereby repealed." It never goes anywhere, and hasn't a prayer of passing, but there are shitwads in Congress who actually want it to be a reality, and so propose it every time even despite its inevitable doom. These are the people who need to be removed from office, because they truly do not want good laws for America. They are trying to kill it. edit P.S. It's hilarious to me how the Democrats aren't willing to touch this issue at all before the election. It just proves those pussies don't have the strength of their convictions. They blab on and on with bullshit polls that claim that even gun owners support the AWB, and that 78% or whatever of Americans want stricter gun laws and want the ban renewed. If this were even remotely true, then it would be a popular issue to harp on in an election year to garner more of this supposed popular support. Does anyone wonder why they don't go anywhere within ten miles of it? It's because they know they've been full of shit all along about the alleged popularity of gun control. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

LOmf'inL!!! Yes, I have been noticing that election/political talk dominates this forum, and since I was not a member before it really started to be the issue, I don't know if it ever was not this way. I am looking forward to seeing what it's like, say, midway between presidential elections. I suspect that there will be plenty of sour-grapes threads regardless of who is elected president. If it's Bush, it'll be diatribes about how he's not doing this or that right, and of course there will be claims, no matter how absurd, that he or his brother helped rig the election for him to win, how this wasn't fair and that wasn't fair. I never heard anything like that from Republicans when Clinton was elected twice -- it certainly did not dominate the news media if it happened in isolated corners -- but the Democrats have become known for grumbling pettily about how elections are set up to stymie them and their supporters. A bunch of whiners, they are, and it's good that they don't control the country. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

Crozby was trying to convince us that even though many arabs have twisted, different ways of "thinking about things" from what we have, they feel the sadness and emotion of losing loved ones like we do. And I sardonically pointed out that some exceptions are the families of those loathesome suicide bombers. I guess they don't count as families that are so tormented by the deaths because for one, they are so fucked up that they think suicide-murdering of innocents is a blow struck on God's behalf, and for two, they get money from governments that support terrorist suicide-murders. So, that blows a big fuckin' hole in the theory that arab whackos feel the same sort of pain that we feel when their families die, as a rule. There is no such rule. Some of them glory in having their loved ones die as long as they take "infidels" with them. Fuck them, I hope they rot in hell with their suicide-murderer family members. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
-
Tell me, are you more disgusted by the murder of these people, or is it the manner in which they were murdered? How can the most important thing here be the method by which they were murdered? Surely what is worse is that they died at all? Picking up on this specific point... Let's say that a person is at an ATM late at night and is robbed, shot in the head and killed for his money. Now let's say that a person is at an ATM late at night, and, with robbery as the motive, she is abducted into a van, taken to various ATMS to withdraw money at gunpoint, then has a bag duct taped over her head and is left to suffocate to death in a horrific, torturous way. I'd be angry at both murders -- but there is no question that if a person is to be murdered, there are more, and less, humane ways to go about it, and the second example is far more heinous and hideous. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

I'll read it late tonight if I still have electrical power and phone line service. Right now I'm not able to spend the time. Blue skies, - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
-
Pshyeah, except, I guess, for the families who send their loved ones off to death as suicide bombers, and they get their $25,000 reward. I guess those people fall into a different category, huh? So much for your theory that everyone who dies leaves behind someone who's paralyzed with grief over it. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

There's been nothing to like about McCain since I found out that he is no friend of the Second Amendment, and he put forth that anti-FIRST Amendment atrocity that he called "campaign finance reform." And his commentary just after the Zell Miller RNC speech made him seem like a water-carrier for the Democrats more than anything else. He is the Zell Miller of the Republican party. You'd want him in as a Republican president?! No way. Blue skies, - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

She's nearly psychotic in her lust for power. That's why people don't like her. It has become quite clear, over time, through the example of her sham marriage to a philandering, lust-driven power-monger. You're right. She IS unelectable in a national election. Besides that, I just find her detestable. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

Well, he was no Howard Dean, if that's what you mean. He had a firebrand, statesman-like intensity to him, yessir. I was glad to see it. Means he believes what he's saying -- and it was stuff that is good to believe. Blue skies, - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

That guy was AMAZING! I heard that several Democratic members of Congress spontaneously combusted during that speech. Blue skies, - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

Wendybird and I are getting married Saturday
peacefuljeffrey replied to diverdriver's topic in The Bonfire
Wow, congratulations and best wishes on your life together! Remember, there is nothing as useless as the altitude above you, the runway behind you -- or the opinions of a married man where his wife is concerned. Just keep your mouth shut as much as possible and I'm sure things will be juuuust fine. LOL! Really, though, flow with the love... -

peacefuljeffrey replied to That_KS_Girl's topic in The Bonfire
That kind of person worries me. I like a person who can make seat-of-the-pants decisions based maybe in part on "solid facts" (where can you get indisputable ones of those these days?) but also on intuition and "feel." What does a "by the books type" do when facts just aren't really available, or what is available is contradictory? Do they just freeze up and can't make any decisions? The other extreme is making all of your decisions with nothing, or very little, factual behind them. Equally bad. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Umm... ca.. can I, uh, can I be Skymedic?

Did you try alcohol before you were legally old enough?
peacefuljeffrey replied to Shotgun's topic in The Bonfire
I didn't like the idea of drinking because I didn't want to ever be under 100% in control of my mind, so I declined alcohol for a while. My friends wanted to see how I'd be when drunk, so I said alright, if I'm gonna drink, you get me the alcohol. So yes, at 17, they got me drunk a bit, and since I liked the feeling, I did it now and then after that. But I never got to be by any means a habitual drinker. Once in a while I would choke down shots of Absolut, which I really hate (I can't stand vodka in general) as quickly as possible to get as drunk as possible, and then ride it out. I recently discovered that if I want to get drunk, Patron tequila is far easier for me to drink than vodka is. When I do a shot of vodka, for the next few minutes it feels like I've been kicked in the stomach. I'm pretty glad that alcohol is not easy on me, taste-wise, because it is part of what keeps me from every being able to have an alcohol problem. -
Wisdom teeth pain, when will it end??
peacefuljeffrey replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in The Bonfire
I had my lowers taken out in 11th grade when I thought I was feeling some discomfort there. My dentist x-rayed them and said they were still well in the bone, but since they were gonna come in wrong I should get them taken out anyway, so he referred me to a maxillofacial surgeon and she extracted them under general anesthesia. That was one of only two times in my life I was under general -- and it was the first. What a weird thing. They gave me nitrous oxide from a nosepiece, and the injection of sodium pentothal, and told me to count to ten. I got to two. When I awoke, I was on a cot in a room across the hall, and my mother was sitting beside me stroking my head. I asked her where I was, and she said, "In the recovery room." "Well, how did I get here?" "They walked you in here -- don't you remember?" Ummm, NO. Pretty freaky that they could make me consciously do something that I had zero recall of! Amazingly, even though the teeth had been in the jawbone, I had so little pain that I never filled my painkiller prescription! The only problem I had was that the sockets would fill with chewed food, despite the stitches, and that would rot. It got to tasting reallllly gross, so I had to go back and she gave me a little needle-less syringe to squirt them out after meals. Worked pretty well until the holes healed up. Feel better, Angela. 17 credits of freshmen level courses ... You should be good to go! And over half of them "frou-frou"! No doubt! "Human Geography"... Rev, if she's that big, don't do 'er! "Wellness"? What the hell's taught in a "wellness" class? Well, good luck, Rev. I have to wonder, and I wonder if anyone else wonders, if taking on a huge course load with lots of attendant reading and studying for each course is detrimental in terms of how much one retains of what is taught/learned, and even how much of the required reading one is actually able to get accomplished? I think there is such a thing as trying to learn too much in a given period. Would anyone really want to learn to play guitar, fly, skydive, scuba dive, and knit all in the same period of three months? How well would you learn any one of those things if you were spread so thin? - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

i'd have never thought to ask such a silly question. I can't believe that some people would shorten their lives just to be rich! My answer is not just no, but HELL NO! Angela. OMG Angela and I agree on something! - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

WOW! I added my "NO" and it came back 50/50!! I wasn't sure what I expected to be the more popular vote, but I thought it would be heavily one way or the other. As I've hit my 30s, I have realized that life really IS short -- I truly did not understand why people said that for a long time -- and ten years is nothing!. I'd rather just putter along doing how I'm doing for another fifty or so years than try to cram in what I can (now afford) with a billion dollars. And who says it won't create more trouble than it's worth? And who says it will really buy you the path to happiness? Sure, you could travel, and see the world, and afford any rig and any skydive anywhere at any time, and eat wonderful food all the time, and drive the best cars... but wouldn't your dwindling time be constantly nagging at you? And the more you liked this lifestyle, the more present in your mind would be its imminent end, to the point where you might not enjoy your days because you're focused more on the fact that they're soon to end... And what if you fell in love? And had to cut short your lives together? (And besides, could you fall in love, knowing that you would have such short lives together?) Blue skies, - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
