Newstalk radio might work pretty well too... Shawn _________________

Two things work for me: 1. Read something you've read a thousand times before. Preferably something dull! (Tech manual, etc.) 2. If you got a TV in the room, put it on a monotonous channel, (CNN works pretty good for me) turni t down low so it becomes background noise. Don't watch it! I find I tend to drift off with it instead of those inner conversations that keep you awake! Shawn _________________

How far do YOU drive to get your skydiving fix?
Shawndiver replied to schattenjaeger's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
97 miles one way to Lodi from the North Bay. 'Bout 90 minutes, longer if I'm stuck behind a motor home! Shawn _________________ -

FYI... Dell has decided to move their Customer Support back to the US... AUSTIN, Texas - After an onslaught of complaints, direct sales computer king Dell Inc. has stopped routing corporate customers to a technical support call center in Bangalore, India. Tech support for Optiplex desktop and Latitude notebook computers will be handled from call centers in Texas, Idaho and Tennessee, Dell spokesman Jon Weisblatt told The Associated Press Monday. "Customers weren't satisfied with the level of support they were receiving, so we're moving some calls around to make sure they don't feel that way anymore," Weisblatt said. The development was first reported Saturday by the Austin American-Statesman. Weisblatt would not discuss the nature of the dissatisfaction, but some U.S. customers have complained that Indian support operators are difficult to communicate with because of thick accents and scripted responses. _________________

We used to tell whuffos that you had to hold your breath in freefall to keep the windblast from blowing out your lungs, and that we jumped in groups so someone would be there to pull your ripcord in case you passed out from lack of oxygen!! Shawn _________________

Tell your BAD experiences about rigs as carryon..
Shawndiver replied to BMFin's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
True, luckily the guy understood we were referring only to lots of F111 and suspension lines, not anything that would detonate. This was before people started wearing explosive sneakers! Shawn _________________ -

Tell your BAD experiences about rigs as carryon..
Shawndiver replied to BMFin's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Af ew years ago, a buddy of mine and I were traveling to Perris, and were told by the check in lady that we were not permitted to carry on our rigs, and a baggage handler would meet us at the plane to put them in the baggage hold. Sure enough, when we got to the door of the plane there was a guy waiting for us to take our rigs. My buddy pointed to his reserve handle and said "Pull this, and you'll have a hell of a mess on your hands..." the guy looked at us, looked at the handles, and said "get on the plane" with a smile on his face. We got on with no further problems. Shawn _________________ -

On my own, since I was a kid watching Lee Majors (or a stunt double anyway) under an early parafoil on "The 6 Million Dollar Man" and thinking, "I gotta do that!!" Shawn _________________

Whats your Name and what do you do for a living?
Shawndiver replied to Viking's topic in The Bonfire
My name is Shawn and I am an Air Junkie trapped in a Network Administrators body... _________________ -
Honest question here, back during my first freefall, (1982) we were taught to LOOK at whatever it was we were going to pull whether that be covers, ripcord, cutaway, etc. to make sure we were pulling what we thought we were supposed to be pulling on. If you were unstable and it was time to pull, pull! Has that doctrine changed now? Just curious... Shawn _________________

Well, I think someone should buy you a beer for that, and when/if I ever make it to FLA, I'll be first in line! Shawn _________________

$60 a case? That must be some damn good beer!! You gotta microbrewery out there at your dz? Now if you want to buy top shelf, that's always fine, and much appreciated! But a few years ago after a speed star comp we did an experiment. Six pack of Loenbrau from full to gone: 1 minute 17 seconds. Six pack of white generic BEER cans: 1 minute, 44 seconds. No complaints received! Shawn _________________
