It happened this week to the founders of a group called Americans for Legal Reform, who were waiting in line to get into a Long Island courthouse. ``How do you tell when a lawyer is lying?'' Harvey Kash reportedly asked Carl Lanzisera. ``His lips are moving,'' they said in unison. While some waiting to get into the courthouse giggled, a lawyer farther up the line Monday was not laughing. He told them to pipe down, and when they did not, the lawyer reported the pair to court personnel, who charged them with disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor. ``They just can't take it,'' Kash said of lawyers in general. ``This violates our First Amendment rights.'' Dan Bagnuola, a spokesman for the Nassau County courts, said the men were ``being abusive and they were causing a disturbance.'' He said he did not have the name of the lawyer who complained. Americans for Legal Reform monitors the courts and uses confrontational tactics to push for greater access for the public. The pair said that for years they have stood outside courthouses on Long Island and mocked lawyers. On Monday, however, Kash said he was due in court to answer a drunken driving charge from a year and a half ago. A week ago it took me nearly four hours to get home as 9.5 inches of snow hit the city. Today it is 65F and we woke up to visibility less than a mile due to the fog from the melting snow (which was gone by lunch time). I drove to work with the windows and sunroof open. It's supposed to snow again tomorrow. Saturday it will be about 10F during the day with lows near 0F. The problem is that the right confuses the center with the left. Anyone left of Bush is considered liberal, even though he is an extreme right wing neo-con. Most people, and most news organizations, including NPR, fall within the center. I used to be the producer for a radio show in the early to mid 90's for a group that was very much to the left. They considered NPR to be to far to the right - no joke. One person claimed that NPR was a victim of the Regan administration. By the time I realized I should transfer those old reel to reels to MP3 it was too late - the tapes had ionized and/or ghosted (I didn't store all of them on the take up reel). I would have loved to have played some of those shows for the conservatives on here. They would have freaked!! Keep the job, bank/invest the money. Don't even think that it is there. Use your vacation time and the money you get from this job to travel and jump. Hope it works out better than it did in Chicago. They were harassed endlessly - one group even tossed red paint on their front door. Go back and pay attention to the front door during the season and you will see it. I heard Blair calling for an end to the 11pm mandatory closing time for British pubs. Apparently he feels that an earlier closing time causes more fights than if they were allowed to be open later! That one looks like the better of the two that she suggested. I don't really know much about Phantom of the Opera. It looks like it's a romantic story, and I don't usually care much for those (unless it is done really well). Both of my sisters hated Phantom with a passion. Doubtful. I see very little difference between what Williams did for money and what the political hacks on most major news programs do. If Williams had changed his support for a cause because he was paid, I would agree, but he always supported it. I find it much more disingenious to engage in manufacturing documents in order to affect a Presidential Election, but I don't hear any calls for Rathers head from the left.
