  1. Laurel, Any idea if Mike has gotten the USPA involved? Maybe the AOPA? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  2. I think this is what I said about three years ago. Bush was looking at the short term and wanted to go into Iraq alone. It is pretty sad when someone that is not schooled in global politics (like me) can easily see how an over-aggressive stance can be bad in the long term...and someone that has to do it for a living can't. The ironic thing about all of this? Bush claimed how the axis of evil was a true danger to the world. He played right into their hands and is now the biggest reason we have destabilized relationships in every corner of the globe. You reap what you sow. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  3. Let me know how that goes since I may be in the market for one within the next year. I'm in the process of making some changes that should have me beyond the financial struggles of the past few years. My best guess is another 6-8 months of being tight on the money before I'm on my way back to where I was before I started jumping. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 4. I listened to that Press Conference - and that question from Guckert sounded like a setup, esp with how quick Bush turned around an answered it. I clearly recall laughing at the exchange between the two of them. That was an interesting press conference - Bush ripped into one of the reporters from Texas that pressed him for real details instead of rhetoric (and gave numbers that proved Bush wrong) and it sounded like a school yard yelling match. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 5. Makes the job of our Greenies look easy, huh?? btw - if you want to see something really freaky, go to one of the 'RPG' servers where you can only talk to other players in character. As I found out you get yelled at by others if you speak leek or anything else. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 7. We were not a country he had to fear during the Clinton years, but he went on and continued his building of nukes after he signed a treaty. What was his excuse back then? You have been saying in many other threads that SH violated terms of an agreement for 12 years and that he had enough time to be compliant. N Korea has violated a treaty for the last 11 years. Does the same not hold true for them? Just because there isn't a religious war against us in N Korea doesn't mean they won't hand those weapons over to someone that does (and when was the last time we were on friendly terms with NK anyhow). I bet they could get top dollar for food by selling some of their nukes or extra weapons grade material. Maybe they can do a 'weapons for food' deal with the UN _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  8. Funny, I was just typing a response to Buried saying lets keep the Bush bashing out of this for now to allow for a conversation to happen. Your assumption is incorrect. I said it was "interesting." Where did I claim it was wrong? Perceived threat vs real threat huh? It seems to me that Bush put N Korea into the same category as Iraq in his first term when it came to destablization of a region and supporting terrorist groups. That makes N Korea just as much of a safety problem as Iraq was. Iraq was a perceived threat and we have documentation from 'experts' that they never had WMD and that SH was just being a pain in the ass to us to maintain strength against Iran. NK has tested missiles that can reach our country and have declared they have WMD. They claim it is for protection against an aggressive President Bush - sounds like a good ploy that the world will buy into since most don't like GW anymore. We have no proof that he won't give that 'stick' to anyone else, do we? Do I want to invade N Korea? I think anyone that has read my posts on here realize I am not for rushing into war. However, I find interesting the soft rhetoric that the GW administration uses with N Korea when they are indeed a real threat. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 9. Either way it is a gov't that is pushing the limits on our security. I find it interesting that a country that admits to having WMD is someone we prefer to argue with at the table. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 10. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&ncid=757&e=1&u=/nm/20050210/od_nm/life_australia_dates_dc Date from Hell: Rescue! CANBERRA (Reuters) - It's every single person's nightmare: You're on a date, it's a disaster but there's no way out. With Valentine's Day looming, a mobile phone company in Australia has come to the rescue with a service offering an escape from the date from hell. All you have to do is discreetly dial three numbers and then hang up without saying a word. "Virgin Mobile will call them back a minute later with a perfect excuse to get them out of there. We'll even talk them through what to say," the company, a joint venture of the Virgin Group and Optus, said in a statement. A survey of 402 people by Virgin Mobile found that 53 percent arrange in advance to have a friend call them mid-date to check they are all right or if they need an excuse to get out. The results showed women were twice as likely as men to use the tactic. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 13. I didn't know that velo's came with HMA now. Are they non-cascade lines? Is this only for the factory team, sponsors and test jumpers? Have they found that HMA helps with longer swoops (ie less drag?) Congrats to JT - nice way to remove the 'new guy' tag from your standing on the team. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 14. Have they contacted the USPA? I believe the airport can lose federal funds if they deny access to their airport...or something along those lines. Why do they want to shut down the dz? When I stopped in the area back in April the local gas station and residents all had great things to say about the DZ when I asked them where it was. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 17. I like the look and interface better....but there are issues with it that need to be worked out with the "directions" section. It found a nice route from my house to work that was only 20 miles, but it was only on side streets! That route would take me over 3 hours! It offered no option to force the directions to interstates, etc. Hopefully they will fix that as they work thru the beta. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 19. ....I already have a Canon 300D. I found a nice course here in town that will teach me alot about nature photography in black and white and how to do my own darkroom work. However, they only teach this course on traditional film. I'm sure you all understand that I am looking for something from Canon that will be compatible in terms of lens, filter, etc. Will any of the Canon Rebel line work? Is there one that you would recommend over another? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  20. How is this different from Mapquest or MapBlast? It seems like it will only be a matter of time before people start bitching about Google being the next MS trying to take over everything. My guess when it will start? When they release their own browser. They recently hired one of the driving forces behind the Mozilla Firefox browser. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 21. http://tv.yahoo.com/news/eo/20050207/110782500000.html Super "Bored" with Halftime By Joal Ryan If Janet Jackson's Super Bowl transgression was titillating the audience, then Paul McCartney's was boring the audience, according to viewers who lodged email complaints with the Federal Communications Commission in the wake of Sunday's big game. A year after the FCC logged more than 500,000 complaints over Jackson's exposed breast at the Super Bowl halftime show, the governmental watchdog had received exactly two complaints by Monday afternoon over McCartney's fully clothed set. In both cases, viewers complained of being "bored" by McCartney's 12-minute, four-song showcase of Beatles and Wings classics, including "Hey, Jude," FCC spokeswoman Rosemary Kimball said Monday. Boring or not (and some TV writers did not disagree with that assessment), McCartney's performance was heavily TiVo'd, registering 5 percent more viewers than last year's Jackson fiasco, according to the replay-device company, and heavily watched. The Super Bowl (halftime show included) had its usual hold on the TV nation, with 86.1 million watching the New England Patriots-Philadelphia Eagles football contest on Fox. That's down 4 percent from last year. As an entertainment event, critics found the Patriots' 24-21 win over the Eagles as methodical and plodding as the musical acts and commercials. Daily Variety likened McCartney's efforts to "damage control for last year's Janet Jackson incident." Still, wrote Brian Lowry, "Sir Paul delivered." The New York Times' Jon Pareles noted that McCartney did manage to perform an unexpurgated version of "Get Back," complete with its references to "California grass" and crossdressing, with the NFL's blessing. "What was once mildly risqué is now merely droll," he wrote. In USA Today, Michael Hiestand observed that the halftime show "returned to its traditional role--something that sits well with chips and dip." The ads, which took almost as much heat last year as Jackson, also went down easier. Participants in USA Today's annual ranking of Super Bowl commercials sounded grateful for the lack of spots about four-hour erections and horses passing gas. A Bud Light commercial featuring a pilot jumping out of skydiving plane in pursuit of a six-pack of the beer was the survey's top-rated commercial; Napster's lone Super Bowl entry, a spot comparing its service to iTunes, was the lowest-rated. Commercials teasing would-be blockbuster movies received middling responses, per USA Today's data. Will Smith's Hitch was the highest-rated among the film spots; Warner Bros.' Batman Begins teaser the lowest-rated. CareerBuilder.com, the job-search site, scored big with three spots featuring chimps--the commercials ranked fourth, fifth and six in the newspaper's survey. Web builder GoDaddy.com's spoof on the Jackson wardrobe malfunction hung in the middle of the pack in the USA Today rankings. At the FCC, it was the undisputed number one. No commercial or broadcast moment prompted more complaints--eight--than GoDaddy.com's, according to Kimball. (All told, the FCC recorded just 33.) Also-rans in the complaint department included: Cialis (five viewers had a beef with the game's lone erectile-dysfunction sponsor); Fox announcer Joe Buck (one viewer wanted him "removed" from the booth); and last year's halftime show (three viewers apparently were still reeling from Jackson's breast). Kimball said the FCC received two thank yous from viewers who appreciated the toned-down proceedings. Apparently, sometimes boring can be a good thing. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

  23. MS does not equal security, and it never will. While there will be some companies that will use a total solution from Microsoft, but it won't be many. Besides I doubt that any CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) person will recommend that solution. The only place MS may make an impact is in the end user space - which will damage McAfee and Symantic (who was recently purchased). _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 25. She owns that role. I was hesitant about it at first....but she is perfect for the role. Add to that BG is one of the best shows on TV right now. We have hooked a friend's wife on it and she hates Science Fiction. FYi - for the real geeks - did you notice this show was inspired from the standalone "Starbuck" show that aired after the original BG went off the air? The one where he crashed onto a planet and became friends with the Cylon that crashed with him (alot like Enemy Mine). _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me....
