  1. I basically understand the idea of the geo-sync counter weight....but I can't grasp how you would build such a structure. Would you start from the weight and work down? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

  3. From freefall - started deployment at 1500 From a chopper - got out at 1900 and pulled at 1200 (the cyrpes was off) and the protrack showed a sub 1000 deployment. Took a reserve as a main to terminal and dumped at 1500. After my malfunction I checked to see if I still had a cutter. Almost every big way jump or jumps at the WFFC have me starting my deployment at 2000. Yup, the ground comes up quick and gets scary. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  4. Wow. how much does this suck? The strong tropical wave in the eastern Atlantic near the Cape Verde islands has become Tropical Storm Ivan. As of 5 am AST Tropical Storm Ivan was located near 10.0 north and 30.7 west or about 610 miles southwest of the Cape Verde Islands. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph and the depression is moving west near 16 mph. Current forecast tracks by model output show this system tracking nearly due west for the next several days then turning northwest. Some longer range model output is suggesting this system will move into Hispaniola late next week then into the Bahamas next weekend. Until this system develops further this is mostly speculation. But it is possible another tropical cyclone could threaten the southeast U.S. in about 10 days. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 5. My best one yet? "One Night Stand" I had a three legged doorway table hanging midchest. On the table top was an ashtray that had cigarettes full of lipstick, a bunch of condoms, a half empty tube of KY, a spatula, one knee high stocking, a clock radio, an empty bottle of Jack Daniels, and room for my drink. On my head I had a lampshade with a pull chain coming down, a thong and the other knee high on the shade and a bunch of glow sticks in it so it looked like it had a light turned on. The best part of that? Going to Wal Mart and buying the KY, Super Glu, Condoms and the spatula. I think I scared the girl at the register. The second best part? Sitting in my apartment with this stuff all across the floor along with the foam it took to keep the lampshade on my head....and my roommate brought his girlfriend over for the first time that night. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 6. I'm not even supposed to be here today!! I saw Clerks 3 times when it came out in the theatres originally. Ever since that I have seen all of his movies on the big screen (yes, even MallRats). However, I have been scared to see "Vulgar" _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

I hope it does - but if I am not mistaken a hurricane tends to go down by one or two categories as they cross Florida - much like what Charley did. If it really does reach a Cat5 by landfall that could spell out some serious damage for the north-eastern burbs of Tampa. Let Clay know and maybe he will come protect them? Othewise its going to look like a scene from "Twister" And can I just say that I will take a small tornado over a hurricane any day! _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I found it earlier on one of the dozen weather websites I've looked at. However, I cleared out my history in case the boss looked at my computer while I was away from my desk. I'll see if I can find it again. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

Right, but looking at the winds on the south and southwest sides of the storm, it still looks deadly out to 65 miles from the eye. 14. Just in time to celebrate the tenth anniversary of his first film, writer/director/star Kevin Smith has announced plans to make a sequel to CLERKS. The movie, titled THE PASSION OF THE CLERKS, is set ten years after the events seen in the first flick. It will star Brian O'Halloran and Jeff Anderson as Dante and Randal, the two slacker buddies who still don't want to serve you while working at their convenience stores. Smith and his pal Jason Mewes will also put in appearances as Silent Bob and Jay. "It's about what happens when that lazy, 20-something malaise lasts into your 30s," explained Smith to the Seatlle Post-Intelligencer. "Those dudes are kind of still mired, not in that same exact situation, but in a place where it's time to actually grow up and do something more than just sit around and dissect pop culture and talk about sex. It's: what happened to these dudes?" Smith has quietly finished the script for CLERKS 2 and has already completed a second draft. He wants to start filming the movie in January of next year and work with a budget somewhere between a quarter of a million dollars and $5 million. Miramax Films will distribute the picture once it's complete. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 17. It's hard to tell from that far out. A storm like that rolls off the coast/islands about once a week during these months...some never form into anything strong. If you look at the history of huricanes from that spot, a good portion of them turn north before they approach the US or the Islands. If you go back about 4 days you will see that another storm rolled off with that one and went almost NW and just dissapated. Somewhere on the NHC website they have a history graph for that region. However, the report on that one looks like it will form into a hurricane - at least it has the classical signs of it. But it may never make it to the US Coast line. Did you know there was a hurricane in the Pacific off the coast of Baja? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Dawned on me that no one has made a "STRIPES" reference to this one yet. How much of a weather dork am I? I called a meterologist/storm chaser that I know to get his professional opinion on this one. Even he wouldn't want to be in Florida to watch this one happen. He feels it will do more damage than Andrew ever did. He also pointed out that all of Florida is drenched as it is and that with a good enough wind the soft ground will allow trees and poles to easily get pushed over. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 20. I understand the argument for both - but it sounds like we may need to find a new way to communicate....and then there is that little issue of hoping someone is listening or looking for us. Or then again, maybe they won't be able to see us: Earth to disappear from alien radar By Lucy Sherriff The Earth is gradually vanishing from the view of any aliens that might be looking for us, because we are using fewer technologies that leak radio waves into space. This is the view of one of the pioneers of the SETI project, Frank Drake. (SETI stands for Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence, in case you just crash landed.) His remarks cast doubt over the current search methods employed by SETI in their hunt for little green men, but, he says, also suggest a reason for the deafening silence out there. According to New Scientist our transition from radio tranmissions to cable TV could mean that our window of detectability is no more than 100 years. In the 1960's Drake developed an equation that gave researchers a ball park figure of how many planets in the galaxy are home to intelligent, communicating species. One of the factors in the equation is the longevity of the observable communications, now, Drake says, this is substantially reduced. Assuming any hypothetical Aliens have developed at a similar pace to ours, and accounting for the fact that we're looking for a needle in a haystack in the first place, we shouldn't be too disheartened that we've not found anyone out there. Yet. So instead of trying to eavesdrop on unintentional signals, we should be searching for beacons: signals sent to us deliberately. In fact, SETI has begun to do just this, but the activity is very new. ® _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 21. Try the Treasure Island stores downtown as well. Trader Joes and the World Markets are great for meat-free diets. I've dated a couple vegetarians, and we have a few veggie chefs here at school...you will be surprised at how many options you have. Good luck. BTW - have you ever heard DeadEye Dick's song "New Age Girl?" I've got a new age girl (Tell us what she's like) Environmentalism girl (Does she ride a bike) She has crystal necklace (She spend a lot of cash) Though her vibes are rather reckless (She's heading for a crash) Oh her flowing skirt is blowing in a transcendental wind And she wonders without knowing where did she begin.. Mary Moon.. she's a vegetarian (Mary Moon, Mary Moon, Mary Moon) Mary Moon.. will outlive all the septuagenarians (Mary Moon, Mary Moon, Mary Moon) Oh, she loves me so She hates to be alone She don't eat meat But she sure like the bone RAH You knew she drives a wind car (How does she like it) It doesn't get her far (Why doesn't she bike it) But it gets her to where she's going to (I don't know, I don't know, I don't know) Where that is, I wish I knew I don't know where she's going And I don't know where she's been All I know that loving her has gotta be a sin (Chorus) RAH Mary Moon will you hesitate Don't segregate your thought from your emotions I know that devotion isn't way up there RAH Mary Moon.. she's a vegetarian (Mary Moon, Mary Moon, Mary Moon) Mary Moon.. will outlive all the septuagenarians (Mary Moon, Mary Moon, Mary Moon) Mary Moon.. She's an intellectual (Mary Moon, Mary Moon, Mary Moon) Mary Moon.. Despite that fact remains quite sexual (Mary Moon, Mary Moon, Mary Moon) Mary Moon.. She's the one for me, me, yeah RAH _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  22. Interesting - I found this article today and was going to ask if this means SETI was a waste? http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=573&u=/nm/20040902/od_nm/science_aliens_dc_2&printer=1 Writing Better Than the Phone to Contact ET? Thu Sep 2, 8:20 AM ET LONDON (Reuters) - Writing, rather than phoning, is probably the best way to contact extraterrestrials, American scientists said Wednesday. So instead of phoning home, it could have been more energy efficient if ET had inscribed information and physically sent it, because radio waves disperse as they travel. "Think of a flashlight beam," said Professor Christopher Rose, of Rutgers University in New Jersey who reported his finding in the science journal Nature. "Its intensity decreases as it gets farther from its source. The same is true of the beam of a laser pointer, though the distance is much longer," he added in a statement. Rose and his colleague, physicist Gregory Wright, were pondering how to get the most bits per second over a wireless channel when they concluded that the detectability of a signal diminishes with distance. If the recipient isn't listening or misses it, the message may have to be sent numerous times but a physical message encoded in an object lands somewhere and stays there. Messages from aliens could possibly be embedded in organic material in an asteroid, for example. "If haste is unimportant, sending messages inscribed in some material can be strikingly more efficient than communicating by electronic waves," said Rose. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... You are going to camp out in a building that only has three walls in 145mph+ winds? I just heard an update that the models have it going more west than north now...just got into the office after being out all morning...will have to look at the NHC website soon. Last I checked they had it at 65% chance of Cat4/5 winds within the next 12 hours. This has me wondering - why is it that some people within the strike range are thinking of sitting it out? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I can see why wwwa.accuweather.com/adcbin/public/headlines.asp?iws=0 Plus this: Frances is moving west-northwest at about 13 mph. The thing to watch is movement and speed. If Frances starts to slow down then this will buy more time for Florida and could allow the system to turn more northwesterly before it gets any closer to Florida. The system will be affected by eye wall replacement in a way that as the inner eye wall dies the pressure will rise. Then the outer eye wall will contract causing the pressure to fall and the wind to increase. This process takes 6 to 10 hours. So, don't be surprised to see fluctuations of pressure and wind speed. An upper level ridge of high pressure to the north of Frances is the key for movement. Meanwhile, an upper level trough now coming across the Pacific Northwest will interact with the upper ridge later in the weekend and early next week. Each model has its own take on the interaction of this eastward moving upper level trough and the ridge. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me....
