Accroding to the 9/11 report. No. But what do the 9/11 commissioners know? Bunch of pinko-liberal know-nothings! There were republicans on that bench as well. Maybe GW used the Kevin Bacon game to prove the connection? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... All subcultures can claim that. Nope. Never served in the military. I still have all my own thoughts because of that. I've mentioned it before - I've talked for years with my dad, uncles, cousins, brother, close friends and the people I see every week about the military. The only thing good they tend to say was "I got to paid to see the world, but it wasn't anything they promised. Jump thru hoops and you will not get slapped on the wrist." I'm working with people that served that are being denied the education dollars they were promised when they signed up with the recruiter. I just had a two hour talk with a life time Marine that quit 4 years from military retirement because of what he saw in Iraq. From watching a friend get killed with an IED, to watching mothers throw rocks at them for killing their children. He didn't have one good thing to say about the war. And I think the video of the tortured Iraq prisoners shows alot as well. Well, it is a little cloudy today. We have no proof either way. Due to the lack of WMD's being found (re:TONS as promised were there) it looks like he did. Nah, maybe another few months just to make sure. What was the rush at that point. NO one deserves that choice. Esp if it means deciding that innocent children may die. Ever think that the tough choice to have acceptable innocent lives lost may be fueling the insurgents? And tough choices? It seems that anyone that disagrees with Bush is let go. From my understanding the general that didn't want to go into Faluja was relieved of duty. There is nothing wrong with being a humanitarian. Shoot first and ask questions later type tend to think there is, and tend to rely on labels. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I consider that a good thing. I came to my decisions on my own via education. I didn't have myself broken and had them forced down my throat. I've read plenty of studies that show the long term damaging social effects the military can have on an individual. NO??? Next you are gong to tell me there is no Easter Bunny!! You missed my point, and that isn't what you said before. You said you would prefer to see American's live over someone not from this country. I have serious issues with that. Who has the authority to make that judgement? I believe that everyone has the right to live. We went to war under false reasons, and now thousands of very innocent Iraqi citizens are dead. I wonder how happy those families are that they have been liberated. The world didn't cross off those in 9/11 were dead because of an act of war - which is was - they were just sad at the lost of innocent lives. Same thing in Spain, Same thing in Russia. The lives that we took prematurely in Iraq are just as tragic as those lost in 9/11. Don't think so? Then go talk to those families over there - the ones we are supposedly helping for altrusitic reasons, not just so we can have control of their oil. Simple Fact: If GW had waited this may not have happened. The world asked him to wait...and if he did the situation in Iraq may still be free but without the mounting piles of bodies. Back at ya - whatever! I've been a manager a few times in my career and have had to make hard choices on who got fired, and who may not be able to feed their family next month because the company can't afford two positions anymore. Yes, I understand hard choices and I had an entire philosophy class dedicated to that in college, as well as part of one of my business classes. So I have been educated and had to make hard choices. The way you spin everything you should apply to take Rove's job. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... That does not make it illegal. The UN thinks to highly of itself. So does GW. I would prefer someone blowing hot air than someone with no real substantial proof or a war monger. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Call me silly, I tend to put my fellow citizens over others. I don't know all the other citizens in my country. I don't know the citizens over there. Both have the same right to live without having a bomb come through their roof. Call me silly, I don't think anyone should be able to make that call either. A human is a human. A life lost is a life lost. What was tragic about 9/11 is that they were innocent people on the way to work - and the entire world cried because of it. The people across the world didn't have a myopic view simply because of nationalistic borders. I feel I should give them the same respect. A tragic, unneccessary death is tragic no matter the location. A dead child from an act of war is tragic no matter where it is. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... And even today, while GW was sitting there, the UN let him know his ousting of SH was illegal since the security counil did not vote on it. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

Does this security checkpoint make sense?
ChasingBlueSky replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in The Bonfire
Tim, Re read what I am saying. I see what they are doing as a placebo. There could be real security issues they are not dealing with - and if I can see them, I'm sure anyone with a point to prove could do it as well. I can look out my window at the Sears Tower right now and count over a dozen security risks...and changes could be made that wouldn't take away personal freedom or rights. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Learned on one that wasn't electric, and used one for years. I had some teachers in high school that refused to take a paper done on a dot matrix printer. Plus the word programs back then were not WYSIWYG and it was harder to format papers. In those cases the typewriter was better. My terrible typing skills forced me to type faster due to all the wasted paper I made (we were not allowed to use white out and mine didn't erase). _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Does this security checkpoint make sense?
ChasingBlueSky replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in The Bonfire
I can understand the security at high profile buildings, but they are not doing security at the buildings, parking lots and underground streets that surround those buildings. That is a huge security liability. But apparently an airport on the lakefront is a bigger security risk than one of the top tourist attractions in the world? Also, the train departs from Midway Airport, there is a police station there but often there is only one Cop looking out. With the massive crowds that come thru that station every morning (travelers, school kids, workers, etc) there is no way they could watch everyone there. Like ClownBurner said - it gives a false sense of security and a bit of CYA in case something happens. Then there is no security from the gate where you pay your fare until you see those cops almost 7 stops later. A terrorist attack could still happen in that huge security hole. I would tend to think that a terrorist attack on a small out of the way target would cause more fear than anything else. NYC, DC, LA, Chicago? Anyone would expect that. But to hit a small out of the way part of town would cause more fear and paranoia and harm to your everyday way of thinking about your home neighborhood. I am not a security expert but it seems like the attention has been on only high profile areas and leaving huge holes in between. Somehow I think something better could be done. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... -
Same deal as far as I know. However, Cable tends to be faster that DSL overall due to the shared resources. But there are times when it can slow down. I've had both and prefer Cable over ADSL. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

Betcha no one in Madrid ever saw anything suspicious before either. Good Point. But, they don't enter the trains. You could hide something under your seat and they could never see it. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I noticed they started doing that after 9/11. It didn't make sense to me either. Here is something to think about - I work across the street from the Sears Tower and my office (yea, I have an office now!!) looks out at the Tower. I had to go thru a metal detector to get into the Sears Tower yesterday and noticed it is set very low since my belt and keys didn't set it off (it does at the airport). Plus they have all these cameras around the building. Now I can just walk into my building, there is no security check, there are two small cameras by the elevator, and that is it. And you would be above and out of view of any security of the Sears Tower. That just worries me. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... -
Does this security checkpoint make sense?

Nope, I asked. This is going to be the routine now. They are going to be doing it on all CTA train lines. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... -
Does this security checkpoint make sense?
ChasingBlueSky replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in The Bonfire
Why? What does this do for safety? I've been riding this train for almost 10 years and have never once had a problem. Especially in the morning when the car is packed, air conditioned and most people are reading the paper, sleeping or have their headsets on. Plus each train has 6 security cameras on it already. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... -
Does this security checkpoint make sense?

With my new job I decided to save money and take the EL train to work every day (that alone has lowered my stress level not driving into city traffic, plus I can sleep in later!). If anyone knows Chicago, I take the Orange Line out of Midway Airport and it is a quick 25 min ride to work. Until this week. At the Halsted stop - the last stop before the trains enters downtown - they stop the train for close to 7-15 minutes. Why? Just so two Chicago Uniformed Cops can walk up and down the entire train and stare at us. They don't enter the trains or do anything else. They just walk and stare. Please tell me how taking these four officers off the street to stare at us is making that train any safer? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Would you want to be present during a 'Code Blue'?
ChasingBlueSky replied to crwmike's topic in The Bonfire
I've been there when they were working on someone I knew who eventually died. That is now the lasting image I have. The nightmares still come back to haunt me from time to time. But then again, I saw all they did to help my friend and I know there wasn't anything else that could have been done. Would I do it again? I am not sure. Some of it is pretty violent to watch what they do and that alone is upsetting. I would make that decision only if I happened upon it again...but my gut reaction is "no." _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Exactly. It usually only works when you send an internal email on the same exchange server. However, if they read the original email before the click on the "recall" email, they can read the first. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me....
