Could the accuracy also come from the definition of a skydiving related fatality? The internet does not have set standards, while an aviation specific agency will have set guidlines. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Usually the tunnel can't hurt you other than putting you further in debt. BillVon summed it up good in this thread - it depends on what area of RW you are looking to improve upon because the tunnel can only help you in some areas. Awarness in the air is not something you can get from tunnel training, in fact it could possibly make you more complacent depending on where your concentration is once you get back in the air. In the end you can't go wrong in either direction....more air time will help increase your skills. If you have the money to spend on both, then do both. But if you don't I personally would stick to jumping only. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I was listening to a local radio station on the way into work today. They had Mark Cuban on talking about his show and reality shows in general. Then they mentioned that someone for a CBS reality showed just got killed when at 300lb rock fell on them. Has anyone heard about this? I am at work and can't do the lookup on it.. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

You will find that those that either spend a lot of money at the tunnel or those that make money from the tunnel are the ones that push it the most. Yes, it can help you correct bad habits - sometimes in a shorter period of time. But then again, so can a bunch of jumps. Like Quade said, if you have to get a plane ticket, lodging, meals, coach, etc....it all adds up and you could afford more jumps at home possibly with a good coach to help you advance. The more jumps you make will help you see more experiences and make you safer as well - you will be able to react better during a skydive if you have experienced it before. The skills will come with every jump, but it takes time. Experience in the air cannot be matched by any tunnel. There is a lot more to a skydive than just the freefall. Many jumpers for many years progressed in the sport and became champs without the tunnel. It can be done - the key is desire, motivation and dedication (lots of money doesn't hurt either). There are going to be those students that just are not able to relax in the air - and the tunnel will help. I've seen it help a few people correct major issues that almost got them to quit the sport. Tunnel time is not a waste, and I have done it myself. New skydivers want instant gratification and want to be world class by 100 jumps and swooping canopies at 100 jumps, and fully sponsored by 150 jumps. What is the rush? I see the tunnel as only helping fuel this scenario. Make goals, progress and learn and keep it on a steady pace. If you want, make the tunnel a part of your training, but don't use it only as a short cut to advance to another level. And I can't agree with Quade any more than the rest have. Focus on the canopy training. We lose more jumpers each year under good canopies than anything else. That should cause you concern and make you want to focus on that. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... The UN isn't perfect, and they are there to perserve the peace so we do not escalate into a world war again. Technically they are following that guidline. However, over the years politics has gotten worse at the table and thier actions are slower. The UN was also tossed into a very unstable world at its birth - things have never been perfect with them. And they are losing thier power and authority when the biggest supporter of democracy, America, is violating what the UN asks for. Remember how mad we were at the USSR, Lybia, China all during the 80s and we couldn't believe how they were going against the UN? Peace prevailed nonetheless via sanctions and mostly non-aggressive means. IIRC (I was a bit young), we only did one or two bombing runs and that was it. We know that he was hiding terrorists that were responsible for attacks across the world. But in the long run, he faded from power and eventually handed over those that caused the damage. Sanctions and removing outside support killed off his power. Just like it did in Cuba. Probably not. Personally, I see Afghan and the Sudan more of a threat to us than Iraq was. AQ didn't strongly move into Iraq until after SH was gone. Now they are being smart on a strategic level...they are using our mistake/war to keep our attention and troops in Iraq while they strengthen their forces elsewhere. OBL is still alive and sitting in Pakastan as of the reports that came out this morning, and the Sudan had an attack by AQ trying to take over the government. AQ will be able to grow and regroup because of GW's personal war with SH. Now, if we hadn't pissed the rest of the world off with - they might be willing to back us up in Sudan. If we had waited, we wouldn't be so spread thin while the real threats grow in other corners of the world. No, I don't like war, and hopefully no one does . I don't have all the answers on this, and eventually we do need to protect ourselves...however I feel that the decisions made have put us at more risk. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... That heat was well documented to be mostly elderly that wouldn't listen to adivce, or were out of touch and had no idea what was going on. We now have a system in place to check in on the elderly in both extreme cold and heat days with daily public reminders. I remember that summer - it was hot no matter what or where you went, or at what time. We haven't had anything that bad since. But just like all huge major disasters in this city, it only takes once to learn from it and for the city to put a plan into action. There hasn't been a blizzard since 79 that shut down this city, not even the 28 inches we got a few years back. I was at work the next morning _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

You said everything that I wanted to. I agree. Letterman rules. When Conan takes over, their ratings will drop and Letterman will rule the latenight air. Letterman should have gotten the position over Leno. I feel Letterman hasn't been the same since he moved up to his new time slot and home. Conan reminds me more of what Letterman was when Johnny was still on the air. Now David seems tired and bored most of the time. I really don't want to see Conan move out of his time slot - it just won't fit the "I can't believe we are still on the air because we really suck" mentality. Conan seems like a low budget talk show, and that Tonight Show slot is all shine and polish. I just hope Brian McCann goes with Conan! I love that guy and he is funny as hell...I used to work along side him here in Chicago when he worked at my radio station. He is the Prep H guy. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

The storms we get in Chicago are not as bad as what they get in Florida, Nebraska OK, or Texas. They do get strong, but its not that bad in the long run. The winters can suck if you don't have the right setup (re:heated garage) and it forces you to change your lifestyle so it makes life interesting instead of boring. Besides, if you lived somewhere tropical all the time - where do you go to relax on vacation? Winters are much easier when you take one or two breaks away from the snow. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... That is what the UN is for. But what we did in Iraq was a police action for something that happened many years ago. The fact is, that our government over the years has overlooked the things that we claimed was going on in Iraq. Why didn't Regan go into Lybia? They were training terrorists there in the 80s. Why didn't anyone go after Pol Pot? 1-2 million dead people were not enough reasons? What about the Sudan now where there is strong proof of genocide happening as we speak. If we were to go by what GW says, and the altruistic reasons we are in Iraq and Afghan and to bring freedom and democracy to them by removing a madman....well, shouldn't we be helping out these countries as well? The moment any innocent civilian is dead because of an act of agression, you are screwed. It doesn't matter who you are. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

The vocal majority is not the majority always. The entire world didn't seem to hate us after 9/11. OBL does not represent his entire people, the same for SH, and the same for GW. If we had pushed away the masses at the border years ago, most of us on this board would not be posting from within the US as a citizen. The American way of life and beliefs need to be stronger than any stereotype and can hold up against a madman's beliefs. If we don't hold true to what this country was founded as, then it will not last. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me....
