I hear ya. I've only been drunk twice in my life, and it just isn't my thing. The last time I drank anything I was having a particularly bad couple of weeks and so a friend encouraged me to have a couple and relax. I only had one, but was slipped something. The rest is history. So while that isn't the only reason I don't drink anymore, it sure is a big one. ~skysprite

Friggin money problems. I've managed to talk my parents into paying for level 1 after midterm grades come out. So hopefully I'll start in mid march or so. I had finances all planned out so that I could start in January, but then the University decided to bill me all of these insurance and lab fees that they didn't mention before for a few classes I'm taking. Bleh. But cross your fingers for March for me!

It just dawned on me that I forgot to say that this isn't being done as a project for the class specifically. (If it were for class, the University then would claim ownership for it no matter what. The reason there are questions about the claim to ownership is because it wouldn't be for a project. Further, my prof is bringing in dailies from a professional film she is working on now for us to practice editing. The Uni can't claim copyright to that, which is why she feels the Uni can't claim copyright for material we bring in that is not our own etc etc.) Anyway my prof asked that all of us spend some time outside of class editing whatever material we can get and just start to get a feel for Avid. This would be edited as a music video like most of the ones you see running around here. ~skysprite

Yeah, I did see the "what a picture is worth" thread, and that is why I wanted to be careful about how I made my request. I sent a pm to skybytch and asked her if my request was inappropriate in any way before I posted, and she said she didn't think so. This would definitely be personal use and I certainly wouldn't make a profit from it. As long as the University doesn't claim ownership (and as I said, I'm checking into it), it's yours. And the person or people supplying the footage will get credit and copy. *edit errm I'll have to ask about that

Hey all, I am a film student at the University of Southern California. I'm taking an editing for the motion picture class, and am learning to edit on Avid DV Express. I'm posting because I wanted to ask if any of you would allow me to use your jump footage to play around with and cut. I know many of you sell your film and photos for income, but what about those of you that jump and film just for fun? There are a few things you should know before you decide if you want to allow me to use your footage. First of all there is a possibility that once I complete the editing, the University may claim ownership/copyright of that film. I am not completely sure on this though, and am looking into it further. (I already discussed it with my prof and TA, and they said it should be fine, but I'm still going to double check with other people.) Second, my intentions are good, whether the Uni claims ownership or not. I wouldn't claim ownership either or try to do anything with it other than just play around with the editing. You will of course get credit and copy. Above all else this is just so I can learn to use Avid, while cutting something I enjoy. In terms of what footage I'm looking for: anything and everything! The footage doesn't even have to be "good" per se... it could be something you'd never considering putting into a video in your life! Whatever you allow me to use must be sent on a DV tape. Sony is preferred because that is what is "officially" supported on our machines. If any of you are willing to allow me to use your footage, please post or pm me, and if you have any other questions I'll be more than happy to answer those as well. Thanks! ~skysprite
