Toggle Turns & Front Risers
StearmanR985 replied to StearmanR985's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
1st; I have 52 jumps and I jump a Triathlon 175 loaded at 1.2:1 I have read so much on low turn incidents that I make my final up HIGH with toggles then ride the fronts all the way down to flare point. I have found that I LOVE the front risers, the extra speed generated has given me much more power on my flare. My landings have been far superior since I started using the fronts. As I continue gaining experience under canopy I would like to slowly start to incorporate the turn to final as part of my landing. However, I don't really like rear riser turns, I prefer using the toggle to make the turn then immediately get on the fronts. Is this an okay practice or am I going to have to work more with my rear risers and get used to them? What are the advantages/disadvantages to each type of turn? Thanks for any input. -
That is un-F'ing believable!!!!!!!!!!

I am going to leap my A$$ off. Well, as much as I can with my slow packing....

Sounds most appealing. I will be going home soon to consume a glass of wine followed by some 2002 "Lodi" Cabernet Franc Port. Yummy!!

Sold mine too, last month. -
Who is Howard Stern? His radio show is both boring and predictable. However, I will say this, his movie Private Parts was quite entertaining.

Hello and Help: So some of you fellow jumpers post videos using Windows Media Player. When I attempt to watch these videos they start and stop throughout the entire thing. I get this buffering message at the bottom of the Media Player window. When videos are posted using QuickTime I have no problem viewing them. Can anyone help?

High level Hop & Pop

That sounds like it would be a blast! Wonder if they will let us do that at my DZ. Hmm, think I will ask this weekend. -
I took last week off from work just to relax; I had a beer at 9am one morning, I almost felt guilty then said F it and had another. When I play golf, I will have a beer before tee off...at 6 or 7 in the morning!!! Hey, I play better after 1 or 2 beers. Jeff

Yep, that be it. Specifically, I move my brake lines to the inside of the risers and the excess to the outside then tucked in with the bottom tab of the toggle.
-
I was taught to stow the excess in the same manner save for one thing. The excess goes on the opposite side of the riser as compared to the break line going up from the locking ring. Does that make any sense?

Can you name one good thing about Bush and Kerry?
StearmanR985 replied to airdweller's topic in The Bonfire
Bush is a POLITE dictator. -
I didn't mean for the individual to use a 5 HP Shop Vac.
-
Just use a vacuum cleaner to suck the air out while you fold it. Works like a champ.

Hey Duke! I know you....I have seen you hanging around there once or twice. Hey, tell Bill he should get something going on for Sunday Feb. 29th. You know, the whole leap year leap day leap from a plane thing. Jeff

I am married and we have a 9 year old daugher. I jump but my wife does not. She does not mind me jumping but she does worry a bit which I think is quite normal. Oh, she is considering taking up the sport herself. But she is deathly afraid of getting lost while under canopy though.... Weird.

Hey McDuck, Really enjoyed the video and the fine music that went along with it!

I think this is a nice reminder, especially for us NOOBies. On more than one occasion I no more than walk onto the DZ and manifest says "hey, want to go on the next load, the call is NOW." Um...well.....err....okay. Can be a bit intimidating walking to the plane and you still have to finish gearing up. When that happens, I request an 'extra thorough' gear check from a fellow jumper on the ride to altitude, just in case. However, one should never feel bad about bowing out of a load if you are feeling rushed or uncomfortable. Typically I go for it but last Saturday I just didn't feel like rushing.

What did you want to be as a kid when you grew up?
StearmanR985 replied to prepheckt's topic in The Bonfire
I wanted to be a CROP DUSTER PILOT. Secretly, I still do! But today's aggie planes aren't as cool as the ones they used 30 years ago so forget it. -
