  1. the video say's V-1....DW Is that Stane's new canopy......?? Robert was flying on that Short canopy Ride. A little low but not shitty-low / looked good and positive on the pressurization. I heard it was about due for sale.
  2. Hey...Kramer your profile sounds like you don't have any BASE jumps. People jump for so many reasons probably the same for skydiving. Take that 12.000 ft. skydive. All the excitement, adrenalin, skill, fun and cram it all down to a few hundred feet. Then while all that is going on at the same time. There is monster waiting quietly behind your back that wants to eat you alive and spit you out if it all screws up. .......Makes You Wonder ?....Why anyone would want to Do It....... BASE is pure and simple also it can extremely challenging to you individually. It can be Oh..Soooooo...Beautiful and satisfying or brutal and ugly and rob you. Forces you to work with other jumpers as a team to make it all happen sometimes.. Also sometimes your on the edge all by yourself and the biggest conquest with that is with your own fears. To tell you the truth. I dont know if there are any right reason. . . edit; for bade spealng
  3. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In Reply To BASE jumpers are easy to spot because they always . . . ? ............................................................................. .> You are all wrong .< BASE jumpers are the ones that are always Hiking up to the top on those lovely and well policed NPS Big-Walls, just before Dark. And every other Geek Hiker that passes Him going down asks him the Same Stupid Question. .... "Do you have a Flashlight with you to see to Hike Down !... It's going to be Dark soon.".... The BASE Jumper is always the one breathing hard, with the Cigarette hanging out of his mouth. and running behind schedule.... Who Always Answers..... ..." No...but I don't need a Flashlight... I will not be Hiking down.... Thank You."... . .
  4. OOOhhhh...Man Tit-Bar...BEER...and.....BASE / footage All in the same Place & Time You cant see it .....(but)...there is a Tear in my Eye You Lucky...Basterds

    Line Twists

I've climbed up the Risers a couple times. I don't think it is as fun as you say it is. It always seems like this shit, Always Happens.. when I get, " Greedy." and take it down a little lower than usual....It Never Fails.
  7. Ahhhhhhh...Alright This is just.... Killing Me...I cant hold this in any longer. Dude...... I Got To Call You On This One. what the fuck does this pile of crap mean ???? > truckerbase : > The hard velcro pc induced wind theory fits the available facts as a right to left strong wind would blow the pilot chute to the left initially (on a go and throw) which, assymetric to the jumpers center of gravity would result in clockwise motion. You just made that Fictional pile of facts up ? It does not fit anything. Come on dude you can tell me the truth. You just made up and pulled this theory out of your Ass at the last minute. Dude that is load of Bull Pooop.... that a Pilot chute can pull you Off-Heading after you pitch it. I don't care how fast the wind is blowing. no fucking way/ no how ... NOT IN REAL LIFE You might believe it, but........Noooooo Way... Jose. . .
  8. I am not really in the habit of humming it down low for openings much of the time. I have only jumped Velcro rigs the whole time I been BASE jumping. also "Nobody" puts stronger Velcro on a rig and jumps it than ME. Dude it is stout stuff. All I can say is that a Pilot-Chute has never changed my heading in Free-fall and most likely it was a 48'' PC if it was slider down. If people say it happened to them so be it. I believe you.
  9. I have seen a couple of people turn in free-fall but only from a bad launch. I have done and seen a lot of jumps from Towers were the wind is Ripping Hard. You are standing there and your cloths are flapping like your in free-fall. You cant even hear people talking, when they are standing 5 ft. away from you. I like it when the Wind is Ripping hard. I think it's even makes it safer on a Tower jump. Also launching with different direction of tail winds. I will usually jump if it's at least blowing Hard a few degrees off the wire in my favor. Never been turned in free-fall by the wind though. The only thing that ever move in the direction that I am not launching in. Is maybe my Pilot-Chute. I've had that thing blow off in front of me a couple of times in a low go-in-throw. But my Pilot-Chute has ever pulled me Off-Heading in Free-Fall. . .
  10. Man I am having a Hard time reading and digesting all of this wind turning people in free-fall stuff. ????? Especially the Pilot-chute turning the jumper in free-fall ???? not trying to cause trouble...but......... Never seen it....Never experienced it....don't know what your talking about ???
  11. Like Hajo says : buy Vented Altitude / Height has nothing to do with it. Vented Canopies are safer. They fly Quicker They stay inflated better and maintain better wing shape. Especially when you are Shutting it down and turning it around to... Not Hit an Object. Just because you are jumping Big wall / High jumps does not mean you wont have a Line-Twist and be Flying Straight for the Wall when you open. & If you have a 180 on a no-slider jump you will be glad you have a Vented Canopy. but....You still don't have to buy a vented Canopy if you don't want to... . .

    Vented PC's

In Reply To just a side note, you earlier told that you use your 48'' stowed, for how long delays? ................................ I usually don't delay more than a 2 sec. with no slider. I believe people were talking about not using a 48 PC stowed because it not safe. Just because I used a 48'' stowed for years on every no slider jump does not mean I go stowed on low & shitty jumps. Dude Pilot-Chutes are a HUGE subject. I personally believe that "Air Speed" is the factor that does not mater as much on 46'' - 48'' inch pilot chutes. As far as.. bad-time Oscillation. When you start cruzing over the 4 sec. mark in free-fall... That's the "Judge" of a balanced PC. .................................... In Reply To Personally I only jumped a 48 once and it were a SL jump so it wont tell a thing. But I have freefall sub 200 ft with a vented 46'' I have jumped every sub-200' with a 48'' PC. ** Pilot-Chute hesitation can happen to... Any PC & Any SIZE PC. ** Pilot Chutes are all subject to:... The way they were CONSTRUCTED & The Jumper that is " THROWING" it out. Weight of PC, also Balance....but..... " DESIGN of Efficiency".... is a Big-One. that is bigger than efficiency ....It's Design of efficiency. Every manufactures builds them different & has his own design and thought of design efficiency. An extremely well Designed 42" PC is a lot better than a fucked up 48" PC and visa-versa. * Jumper There is a proper way to * "PRESENT" * a PC to the air when you Pitch a pilot-chute to the air. both... Hand -Held & going... Stowed. I don't want to get into all that fucked-up argument of the Mushroom & Super-Mushroom CRAP. * Lets just say..." There is a proper way to fold a Pilot-Chute."... (enough said) on this over talked about subject The way a Jumper throws a PC out to the air is BIG.... There is a different way to throw a PC out. For different jump situations. There is ....TECHNIQUE.....In How & when to pitch a Pilot-Chute. There is also Technique involved in Knowing.... "Which"...technique to use in Different Jumps. Different pitches for Different Jumps. * this can all be... Summed-Up.... in 3 Words.......Design, Technique, Timing . >- A.Well Built Pilot-Chute.....> - Knowing, How to Throw it out..... >- Knowing, When to throw it out. . .

    Vented PC's

is my brand-new (ok...18 jumps) non-vented PC unsafe? Am I setting myself up for something detrimental when statistics finally kick in? * No ...as long as you are using proper size in relation to your delay of free-fall and it is properly constructed. ..................................................... Also, why are vented PC's only offered up to a 42 on this website? Why not a 46? * Your delay being very short it is more likely will be affected More by other things like: body positioning and out side interference like wind etc. * A 46 or 48 is not hanging like a Anchor long enough to start oscillating. You pitch it out / It's ripping your canopy out of container. If it is Not... You have a Container Lock or a Severe PC Hesitation. ........................................................................ What is bias? And what does it mean to me as a low-time basejumper? * Are we talking about the way the Taping is sewn on the Rip-stop material ? The cross hatching design of the reinforcement (those little squares) ? or * Are we talking about the Mesh material on a PC.. ? Which way it is turned because it has a directional stretch to it to. Depending on which way it is turned. On the Square / or On the Bias. ? Taping on the mesh is what gives it an even or balanced shape. * Those little squares of reinforcement in the Rip-stop Nylon. If you turn them 45 deg. from square to diamond. Its changing them from being square to the Bias. Tapering done on the Bias is much stronger than being sewn on the square. * Your attitude of BASE Jumpers on this Forum is Bias. Thinking that we are all Ass-Holes... (most are not) Some of us actually take great Pride in being an Ass-Hole when we Post hear. . .

    Vented PC's

Hey.....Vented Mesh-Apex on your Pilot-chute sure beats burning Holes in the top with Lit Cigarettes.
  15. WHAT.....THE.....Fuck....? I come back from changing a couple Bobbins and Tapping a Top-Flap and the... Thread has been SPLIT and there are 13 Posts ??????? Then the whole fucking new Thread that was split just DISAPPEARS while I am trying to post this there ??? seems like I just walked away and everyone else just goes STUPID on me... (like I stated at the "END" of my last POST... ) "I still see there are still 11- Wrong "YES" votes in the poll." . . Ooooh. and SKIN does like and listen to ... American, Country Western Music...(in the closet)
  16. Dexter: Ray is focusing his rigging efforts on his new 1 pin rig. .............................. "Rigging Efforts" Dude what are you talking about I have never been trained as a Rigger. The ol Lady is doing a shift in the Lab at the hospital tonight so I am doing a fourth cutting of the 1 pin rig tonight and putting most of the pattern from paper to plastic. with CCR cranked to max on the pc. The fucking thing actually looks like nice Rig. Nice flat and trim wedge. the Riser Covers turned out "Exceptionally well".- trim & smooth / tracking worthy. I did a lot of work to work out the pin tension on the 1 pin. I originally started to cut a 2 pin but said "fuck it" and threw it in the trash can...( 1- pin / less is more.) A - 2 pin - would have been much easier on my brain to build. The 1 pin was a bitch to figure out how to contain 285 sq. ft. canopy and (make it look good.) + with a consistent (acceptable) pin tension when you got it strapped to your back and moving around. I never owned a pin BASE rig before so I had Spence come over the other night and see it all packed up. He put it on and checked it out. he said ..."It fucking rocks. make me one." I got the third cutting packed right now (ready to jump) with a 285 sq. ft. v-tec and I got the pin tension down to 4 to 5 pound pull / in the flat and stable position. If you are.... Stalled-out, on your Back, Head-Down and Kicking & Screaming, with the Bridal going over your Shoulder after you pitch the pilot-chute.... (good luck)... you Will need it. .
  17. Those old Visions had a Tray that would open up big and clean. The Tray-bottom was real shallow on the corners to. I have some thoughts but no proof / and I may not even know what I am talking about. Very little pin tension -verses- a little more pull force needed to open Velcro. on low & slow delays. (if you think about it)....Velcro takes that extra fraction of a second to let the Pilot Chute do its job of pulling the "Folded Pack Job out of Tray." That fraction of a Second gives - extra snatch force or when it " lets-loose"(releases) - ripping it faster through the closing flaps of the container. The -Packed Canopy- is what opens the 4-flaps of your Container. Not your Pilot-Chute. the "Pin or Shrivel-Flap"- is opened by your Pilot-Chute. That 10 to 12 pounds of Fabric ripping, up and though the 4 flaps / opens the container. I don't know, these are just some rambling crazy thoughts from a delusional moron...but you never know. I just designed and built a 1 pin container system over the last couple months. A couple months of work/three cuttings... but several years of thought before I even started to pattern it out, cut and sew. I seriously have some concerns about using very little pin tension on Very-Low air speed deployments. I believe there should be a definite "SNAP" of energy when the Pin is pulled from the closing loop on opening. If the container is OPEN and your Air-Speed is LOW...(think about it)....Closing sequence of CLOSING FLAPS ?? Think about Low - Slow air speed deployments.... Low Speed = low energy Velcro OPENS /releases, both of the SIDE FLAPS at the SAME TIME..when pulled off. OK.....now think about the "Closing Sequence of FLAPS" - on a - 1 or 2 Pin Rig. WHAT - FLAP starts to release the energy of the Packed Parachute FIRST ??? Not an Even release of energy...Not Smooth... At LOW Air Speeds. >>> WARNING > WARNING
  18. Seriously, he sounded okay on the phone, if there's issues, PM me. NickD BASE 194 .................................... We took him out for a full weekend once over hear and could not kill him off. He's good to go. . .
  19. Yes...mel-t.....are you any relation to ...Faber ? You are Fast- Fast- Fast....and when your dreams come true your Opening Headings will be consistent and you will, beating time, less time !, beating time That thing about " beating time" ? If Time is Infinite ? Does that mean the Beatings never Quit ??? also : You need one of those " Particle Accelerator Meters " (that thing Tom is talking about) I saw one of those on Star Trek the other night. I don't know how, Atair Aerodynamics got hold of it. I bet Capt.Picard is pissed off. . also: I still see 9 wrong votes in the pole for " YES " . .
  20. To tell you the truth I don't do a whole bunch of Pilot Chute swapping around when jumping with no slider. 99 percent of the time I don't swap any pilot chutes out. I use 48 inch on most everything. with no slider. I always jump the larger heavier canopy's 285 sq. ft. and bigger usually. I would say on most of the no slider jumps I do. A 42 inch pilot chute I make would work satisfactory. Just never worry about it to much I guess I Just pack it up and jump it. A couple of months ago I pulled a "New Vented, ZP, 42 inch pilot chute" I sewed up a while back. It was in a Big-Bag of pilot chutes I keep in the closet in the sewing room. I threw it in the floor with the intention to put it on and jump it.... I Just haven't got around to it yet. I think I kicked it out of the way when I got up out of my chair to answer the phone when You called about a half hour ago.
  21. I never made a 46 inch pilot. I only make and jump, 32 - 38 - 42 - 48 -/ inch What is the big difference between a 46 aand 48 ???
  22. Tom, Faber, Skreamer.... I don't understand the not stowing anything larger than a 42 inch / pilot chute ???? I am not over-exaggerating. I have done at least 300 jumps with a stowed / 48 inch / pilot chute.
  23. Most of the time it's about Who's not working those day's. or.... Who's the least laziest to get off there ass and show you.
  24. Hey... Nick and Jon I'm not trying chew this guy's ass off by pointing out Technique faults or the Blame-Game. It's about responsibility and being on your first BASE jump. Your first few BASE jumps are about the only few times were you actually give up some of your Responsibility. A first time jumper share his responsibility with the person who trains him up and puts him off. I have Trained up and put off several first time jumpers off a Antenna in the cold, dark night. Most of them very closely resemble Bryan Klindworth, In number of skydives and eagerness to do his first BASE jump. Ever time I help one climbed out around the cross brasses and leaned out over the ground. I folded there Pilot Chute, put it in there hand and tell them everything is clean and they "Are good to go." I still find myself talking to them over there shoulder and repeating all the technical rundown on Launching, Body positioning and what to do after the canopy opens. Mostly because I am as scared for them and there safety as they are of jumping. Do you know what reminds me of "MY Resposibility" for there first jump more than anything ??? That would be the knots and those little twinges you feel in the pit of your stomach. From the time they launch. Till the time they do that 180-turn around and land safely. Just like Nick and Jon. I am glad you are safe and sound. I also meant what I said "I Hope your next BASE jump will better for you and you have fun." .
