faber: ..."and have Never experienced any Hesitation in Tow. how can you tell, from what i heard you close your eyes soon as you leave the exitpoint and opens them first under canopy, perhaps you thourght you packed slider up and didnt think of the difference" ---- Hey I have had only, 1- PC in Hesitation on a BASE jump. It was exiting from 210-feet going Hand Held. Which led to a 1-1/2 second Canopy Ride. . Hey and the only reason I close my eyes on a BASE jump Is because I am Tired. Tired from staying up all night. Drinking and Playing with your Momma !...... .

"You look like a BASE jumper i know. Must've killed him and stole his face, punk! " bsbd! Yuri. - Maybe you are correct ? Maybe that is why Every Time, I step out on the edge to Exit. I feels like my very First BASE jump all over again. Yuri who ? What did you say your name was ? You No-#, Punk ! ..... Hey (got idea) if I kill you. Can I have your name. Then put a BASE # to it ? .

tom: "Does your 48 have a vent, cap or handle on the apex"? . Only a 1000 Den. Cordura Crown Cap. Just an average looking 48" PC I sew up in Garage. I think I still use the original 3-48" PC's I made up. I don't know when ? they work and I don't change them. PC construction methods is not what I am getting at here though. .

Just joking as usual - (scardy cats) You are the Author (starting) of another BASE jumping Pole is the only reason that I used your name at all. Not Picking on you in particular. (hear that rl ?) . We are not talking about Line-Over as stated by you as an example. The benefits of Tail-Gate use has be documented by Years and countless Thousands of BASE jumps as Proof to the Reality of it's Efficiency and benefits of reducing the Line-Over. Tis is called. Trial by Experiment. . The Statements, Going Stowed with a 48" PC causes Hesitation. People (BASE Jumpers) are telling you it's bad. But I do Not hear anyone or Read any Data on Numbers of jumps by FACT. Only hearsay and a some Isolated and negative experiences with a 48" and going Stowed. Spread Over and Over and Over by story told and handed down from mouth to mouth and spread like a symptom of a Common Cold, By Internet Chat. With no proof or hard Numbers to back it up. Leeding to this Wives Tail of BASE safety No-No's not to do. I have put in some Hard Numbers. That is plain Just Fact. . I am NOT Bragging. This is just the way things Accidentally worked out. Fact is I have Done hundreds of BASE jumps going Stowed with a 48" PC with no hesitations. The only reason I even slowed the use of a 48" for the majority of jumps in the year of 2005. Was that It gives me a Favorable advantage on the positive side. When there is less distortion on the Flair when I land using a 42-Inch. Only because my legs and Back are getting sore lately. When thing work good for so long and are not broken. I don't try to Fix it. (My basic survival Rule). I am only stating the fact that this mechanical combination combined with my personal mechanical habits and techniques in relation to Me. Tossing Out My 48" pilot chute Stowed have worked successfully for sum time now. With no adverse affects for Years. Dispite What the Law of the Land CLAIMS as, Hesitational-PC Fact. - jaap: ..."and I combine that with what my own common-sense is telling me, and put on top of that the fact that stowing a 48 inch PC doesn't buy me anything (when I stow, the altitude allows a smaller PC anyway), the only natural conclusion is to avoid it'. . These kind of statements are what I am talking about. (and it's not just you) We are Not Talking about the 48" Stowed and extracted on Freefall. Buying you any Benefits. We are talking about Hesitation caused by 48" going Stowed. Added by this Safety BASE Rule that was added with out any Hard Numbers to back it up. Passed down to You. Then you stating this along with the internet Pole - BASE Chat. Ending with the conclusion to, Avoid It. Which ADDS to this, BASE Wives-Tale of. - Going Stowed with a 48" PC causes Hesitation. . As you state. "There's no rocket science to it... .

Tenshi: ..."Net wasn't cut. Just untied. That's why there were no charges." - SWeeeeeeeeeat. No Cutting. and I read it paid-off in the end. No Vandalism. That is the CORRECT way to enter a BASE site. (Just my personal choice). I am proud to say I have Never cut any Wire yet to enter and never plan to. not to say I have never picked a lock or two but I have found it is much easier to JUST go Under or Over. Or just plainly un-bolt. Not Vandalize. .

Pretty Harsh criticism. I do Not have a BASE # I just use my plain birth name when posting. I guess I just don't feel like this BASE Zone.com is a place I need to use as a secret hideout. I am not ashamed to have a BASE Number. I just do not ask for one. It's called freedom of Choice. I do not ask for a BASE Number. Just like I do not ask for Free-Fall Badges. For completion of hours of Freefall, 4-way, 8-way or anything else in Skydiving. Just happy to jump and to BASE jump. Just happy to have Friends all over the world that I have BASE jumped with. Pretty Simple. It is just a personal Choice. Freedom of choice and to do what you want. That is what BASE jumping is all about. BASE is personal choice and I personally don't feel I have to ask for Anything to, Just Belong. .

OK, keeping this discussion about the technical topic at hand. I have just a few thing to say.about believing every thing you hear and read about concerning BASE Safety Facts. - ESPECIALLY POLES - - jaap: ..."Going at it alone is great, but there's a ton of little facts -like this one about large pilotchutes- that you won't pick up unless you start hanging out with experienced jumpers." "Anyway, just curious what the poll will say. Maybe I'm wrong and everybody learned this during their FJC". Cheers, Jaap - Wow. Just curious. Have you -Jaap- or any of you Bozo's (scardy cats) ever done even a Hundred Stowed jumps with a 48- inch Pilot-Chute BASE jumping ? No - Is that what you all are saying ? Then how the hell do you ALL Know It Will Hesitate ? Because that is what you have heard or been told ? How can you - ALL just AGREE - with this Hesitation Theory. Without Trial of experimentation ? You Do Not Know This Is A Fact. For me this is not a Sound Theory. A 48-inch PC Stowed. Does NOT promote Hesitation. . I have done and Logged, Several Hundred Jumps over Several Years of using a 48" STOWED and have Never experienced any Hesitation in Tow. That is ALL I ever used to jump Stowed for YEARS. was a 48-inch. I believe this Hesitation Theory on going Stowed 48-Inch is called a, Hypothesis (educated Guess) Not Fact. . So I am going to have to call Bullshit on the - Hesitation Theory - when going stowed with a 48-inch Pilot Chute. Just on the plain FACT that I have done a HUGE amount of Stowed Jumps. With a 48" PC. Several Hundred actual BASE jumps. over a Several Year period. I believe you call this 1st hand Knowledge. (Reality), Done by ACTUALLY Doing It. Not Hypothesis (guessing). . .

Stealth BASE Canopy ? Wow, that BASE canopy came out of nowhere. Pretty nil on the info. What the hell ? - Just chose a size. - E-mail the money. Sight un-seen - With no history of BASE ? Where are these New BASE canopies coming FROM ? - Hey just questions off the top of my head before Pre-Purchase of something New. To trust as to NOT have bones hanging out of my body. After jumpig a New Wing. What Canopy is it patterned after ? Is it an original Canopy design ? Who did they sub-contract the work to. For production ? or - Is it sewn In-House for sales ? Where is the proto canopy ? Where are the pictures ? Who put the test jumps on it ? How many test jumps ? Has it even been test jumped by a BASE jumper Qualified to make assessments of quality ? .

Hey look on the bright-side. The only Positive thing about getting those Electrical Burns is. They are Cauterized....... .

Ya I always liked Gary. He is a stand-up guy. I don't think this could be a Gary Vs Miles thing. Gary mentioned doing this a few months earlier but Miles just beat him to it. I have to agree with statements made in the past. When you use Packers it is not a Solo record event anymore. It is a team Record effort. They both did and are using the Packer thing. Also this is a unique thing. a Record BASE event. Not a Pure at heart thing like just out for BASE jumps with your buddies. Gary will do 120 jumps EASY and in very relaxed manor with a team of packers. I am convinced that Gary could even do More if all the elements of weather and mechanics are working and fall in his favor. 120 is a safe and conservative number. Gary is Quiet but he is driven and is Solid in experience so maybe it will be more than 120 jumps formally stated. Miles record is Highly Credible with 50 and hiking but I maybe Gary is just saying F##k it and setting this Record BASE # stuff at a extremely high bar for anyone in the future to even attempt to break without some real work. The statement made in article. The real danger is mental. With this many jumps in 24 hours. If he starts to get lazy with the repetitiveness of one jump after another and they all start to run together in his brain. The injury chance is increased. I have jumped the Menara KL on 4 separate occasions. It's Fun but there is nothing ordinary or cushy about that LZ. It's all concrete and asphalt at different levels of height with trees and light poles to boot but the night time jumps should be well lit though. .

..."But to say someone is a not a real BASE jumper if they are having these feelings is a bit of a stretch if you ask me. " - OK, First thing you must learn as a BASE jumper. NEVER admit to anything. Even possession of Feelings. .................................. " Again Ray, I read most of your posts and have nothing but respect for you, and your knowledge of BASE." - Do you know what you just said ??? . (please rethink) Dude! This is such a Sad, Sad day indeed for BASE. When I am Looked Up To, as being BASE knowledgeable or shown any Respect on anything. (you are making me look bad) This proves beyond a doubt. You are In Need of HARD-CORE, BASE training. To Harden your Ass up and to beat the last little bit of Feeling out of you. Because you are spending WAY to Much Time on this fucking thing called Cyber-BASE ZONE for real life BASE information. My advise to you is. Toss your useless Feelings in the Trash. Buy A BASE Rig. Tell everyone you Love to PissOff. GO Hang out with some REAL BASE Jumpers. then make a BASE jump..... . . edit to add: Hey, Even if I did put a some fucking Sick cute little, winky, pc correct, smiley icon at the end of the post. Does not mean that you should not take my advise seriously. .

bigwallmaster: . . ." I call bullshit on the above statement and I think it's ridiculous. Everyone experiences emotional response, even if they're afraid to admit it" - - Accusing Me of having Feelings. No Way ! . BullShit, you say ? I assure you that the couple Feelings that I have @ this moment. Are Not Mine ! I think somebody dropped them. I found them lying on the Sidewalk Yesterday. I will be returning them to there rightful owner as soon as I can locate them. . But Really. If you can't drop your Feelings in the Trash from time to time. How do you expect to ever make it in BASE ? If You are really -In Touch- with your Emotions of Caring about wellbeing of yourself and others. Then you Will Not BASE jump. I call BullShit. to YOU. It does not make any sense. In BASE you are Totally in it For Yourself. When you step-off & exit. there is nothing but self-indulgence of the highest gluttony You could possibly imagine. If you start to BASE jump. Be prepared to NEVER get your fill. You will always be hungry and in it totally for yourself and your next BASE jump. If you are totally aware of the Dangers involved in BASE and there possible consequences to loved one. How can you say. You Care ? .

J.P. "Do you ever have feelings of quitting BASE because of your family's dislike of the sport? " - Dude if you quit BASE most likely it won't be for the dislike of your family or there concerns for your health. Real BASE Jumpers don't give a fuck what family thinks of them jumping. It's the Opposite. Quitting will likely be (Your alone) decision made. For putting the ones most closest to you in life through all the worry and fear every time you BASE jump. I being void of all feelings. believe they call this. GUILT ! If you plan on being a real BASE jumper. I suggest you drop your Feelings OFF. In the nearest Trash Can. .

Hey Capt..Kimmy, If you were looking for your usual BASE Jump date. A Crotch grab might have worked with a few BASE jumpers that jumped here. I can pretty much guarantee though the only thing that will end up in your Ass when BASE jumping with Me. Will be my fucking Boot. Hey bitch, give me a PM. .

AHHHh ha hah ah, dude I like that pic. The better Pic. might have been the look on the Face of the person with the Helmut-cam. .

Every & all Antenna are jumpable one time. The information you are seeking is Very Secretive. You must know the secret password plus the secret BASE Handshake. But the most important thing is. You must be a working BASE jumper. With the BASE knowledge when you walk up to a Antenna and make Visual Conformation and Assessment for a, good-to-go. Because just -Anyone- who walks up to one. Can Jump an Antenna One Time. .

That's a big one that is Way important.(Proper break settings.) Along with what Tom is saying. About being able to Stop and Turn your Canopy around from all three angle. left, right side and strait back. FAST. Another thing goes Right along with the Break Setting and Canopy Control is. I can not express this strong enough to people starting out. To be comfortable with is Getting Some Clearance Away from the Object when you Launch. You defiantly need to be comfortable with taking a few steps @ a good pace/run and keeping a decent body position in FF. A cliff face is no place to go so head low it turns into your first front flip. It does not matter if the Cliff is Over Hung. Just an extra 5 ft. of clearance could make all the difference in you being able to walk away. .

Maybe but I think it was a triple with one no-slider and two slider-up and I was at the bottom. if your talking about Idaho.but that thing is way tall . In the post above, I was referring to a slider-up about 6-7 years ago I one time gave Slim . from the steel of a local bridge up here that is over a small gorge. That long ago a slider-up in the 300 ft. range was a pretty ballsy jump. Today's standards it is Normal everyday Shit. .

We done a short 4-wire/4-corner Tower local around here. It is short though. We only PCA/static-lines it. we were always below the guy-wires on opening. I don't know that I would FF a 4-wire Up High and deal with all the sets of Guy-wire below if I had a bad off heading. For max. safety maybe just stay below the 1st wire set. If you are concerned about wire strike. I don't know if that would be high enough you to FF or just static-line. Unless you can take it down to set-up on opening low enough to free-fall past the upper sets and be below all the set of guy wires but that sounds a Little Sketchy to. .

I think you will live. I PCA a good friend of mine once, Slider-Up from the steel under bridge once from about 335-340 ft. and he had HEAPS of flytime. I think you would have no problems. as long as you set yourself up with the Right slider-up pack job. While having a open a clear spot to land close below. Anyway I would think that type of jump common and has already been done to death and run into the ground..... .

DZ Safety and how to recognize possible safety Problems.
RayLosli replied to RayLosli's topic in Safety and Training
wendy: "Skydiving is one of the arenas where an unsupportive approach is still tolerated. You might need to suck it up and accept that there are people who prefer a supportive atmosphere.' . I accept challenge of validity of anything I say with open arm. Believe it or not but I am not a total Knuckle Dragger and am evolving slowly..... OK everyone wants to be Supportive even me. For example: for them (students) that are dissatisfied with there DZ and it's operator/owner. While throwing in the twist of, (concern) of Safety & training & of treatment of themselves and students. While also fearing second rate mechanical upkeep on there Jump Plane. I would like to be even more supportive but 127 posts latter what was accomplished for an acceptable solution for this problem ?What are the best avenues of pursuing MAJOR change ? especially if you have only been skydiving for a short period. like the complainants in the thread (uspa and faa reg. violations) is a good example to play on. On one end of the spectrum you got, "shut up and suck it up" & Jump." which seams to be an unpopular as a problem solver these days. And on the other end to just run right in and make formal, verbal and written complaints to FAA and USPA.. Everybody loves to be Supportive but what's the answer ? - ..."Just because I had fun jumping in the 70's, with 70's gear and practices, doesn't make them best. " . I agree for instance that you might now what is best have been skydiving and seen a few DZ's in 30 years. Or other skydivers that have actual years of skydiving experience and actually grew up with a Dz that had REAL safety issues with student training, gear and aircraft. Actual DZ's that were bad enough go under for being unsafe. Fear and concern for ones safety is a pretty natural reaction with skydiving especially if your just getting into it. One big question I got. Can students in the first year Recognize what is bad. A Bad DZ & Bad DZO ? What is Valid concern and What is Overreaction to safety concerns or issues ? Are things as bad as they think safety wise when possibly that's the only DZ they have ever been to or known so far as skydivers ? . -
DZ Safety and how to recognize possible safety Problems.
RayLosli replied to RayLosli's topic in Safety and Training
andy: "The tired, old, Neanderthal attitude of "shut up and suck it up" is not the solution, it's the problem, and it should be dead and buried." . That's a strong statement which has some validity to it but will never be Dead & Buried. Everybody that learns to Skydive has to, "shut up and suck it up" sometimes. - " Nobody, even low-timers, should ever feel intimidated out of discussing safety issues that they may see come up. That's the way it should be." ..."without fear of being casually dismissed as "whiners", . No one learning to skydive should have the spirit beat out of them. By being belittled or left to there own demise. Just to end-up smoking it-in. because they were not altitude aware, unstable and dangerous From training Neglect. So I do not believe in this statement carried to it's fullest degree/meaning. - " Nobody, even low-timers, should ever feel intimidated out of discussing safety issues that they may see come up. . Agreed. but HEY it did not look like it to me that anyone is to intimidated to say what they think on this subject. I am opinionated but at the same do not hesitate to listen to any View expressed. I also do not Casually Dismiss. I sometime use/throw a few Verbs like (whiners) out there but sometimes I think you get the most honest responses or answers to questions asked and put forth if you have a little friendly friction. Me Not Agreeing with there solution to there problem. Is Not dismissal of Them as growing skydivers. Just strong disapproval of some actions taken in public forum as well as some of the advice given. . -
I believe that Dex is taking about Raking not Picking. there's a big difference. Picking of pins individually to align shear line in the barrel is a Trained Skill of a Locksmith. Any Monkey with a thumb can Rake a Lock. And that's the easiest way I chose to do it anyway. Picking Pins is a thing you got to stay current on (like a lot) Use it or Loose it Skill. For Raking all you need is a few different size tension bars and two or three different Rakes. . Hey CHAD it was fuckall great last night sorry you were not there...... .

Not meant to be a Dis but it's just a hard thread to respond to. I hears the story in early 90's and I still think its a LAME & F-ed-up. to Rat out your jump mates for the Motive of petty revenge. it's not that I disagree with you refreshing my memory of you getting a shitty-deal to say the least. But it's a hard pole to vote on. because of the choices I think. This story still stands as one of the most Underhanded things I have ever heard of happening in BASE past though thanks for the reminder of it. .
