You can also find unicorn in Webster's. I'd also contend that the Self (or as you put it, the Soul) is grounded in the very material firing of synapses in the frontal lobes. So did somebody else get the "real" D30000? Or maybe they don't do that. Wonder who got D30001? I never have applied for my D. Maybe I'll hold out for D33333. Glad you were saved; but it occurs to me you saved yourself. Whatever tools or techniques were employed - it was all on you. To me religion is like weight control. (Bear with me). The recipe for being happy is as simple as the recipe for maintaining a healthy weight. Eat fewer calories than you burn. All the commercial diets are gimmicks - bar none. That being said, if you find one that allows you to succeed, good on you. Stick with it (as long as the diet itself isn't unhealthy) as a tool that works for you - but be aware that under the veil of it being your savior is a very simple truth that burning more than you eat is the foundation. (Saving the recipe for happiness for later). Probably a good thing we all don't love each other so much. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley

Sounds like a personal definition. I believe what is called the mind, all "feelings" or emotions, and what we perceive as "the will" (I call it the Self) all cease to exist when the brain stops functioing. There is no evidence that shows they survive the death of the physical body. I'll concede that something like the Self, or the Soul, or whatever survives the death of the body and is not reliant on the chemical reactions of the brain when evidence to that effect is presented. And I do not accept shaky videos taken by giddy reality TV ghosthunters or any other such searching-for-my-15-seconds-of-fame nonsense as evidence. You do not "have to", you choose to, most likely based on already existing beliefs. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley

Do you not see the weirdness, not to mention the contradictions you put forth? Aside from the fact that it represents one of the barely veiled threats common to Christianity (accept Me or burn in Hell), saying the choice is to accept voluntarily on Earth, or . . . what? Face the consequences of accepting later? The problem with Neolithic belief systems is not just that they are totally illogical; but that they are so totally out of place in this current era. The context of literally interpreted scripture is about as relevant to modern society as a 2-year olds perception is to that of an adult. Me too. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley

You might consider that there is a distinction between feelings and knowledge. BTW, what are you, or were you, saved from? Also, we equally as much cannot say that Moon sized asteroids made of spinach and cream cheese do not exist and are hiding behind the Sun. Fotunately for all of us, such reasoning is not relied upon for anything that matters and is instead relegated to debate of mysticism, conspiracy theories, miscellaneous Neolithic beliefs, etc. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley

Even better if he could show that such a thing (the soul) exists. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley

People of all ages had marveled for quite some time how some of the continents could be fitted together like a jigsaw puzzle. It wasn't until the mechanics were figured out that the experts admitted it was possible. Be very interesting to see if the order that is there collapses like a house of cards or if it will be built upon. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley -
That's better than having no values at all, and just being a full-time liar and whore. Who's the most moral person? 1) Someone who lies, cheats and steals all the time, and has no remorse about it, or; 2) Someone who leads a mostly moral life, but on rare occasions makes a mistake? Do any of you out there have complete moral authority to throw the first stone? I have no authority. I like to think I have no morals either. (Those assume some person or being (usually divine in some way) granting or dictating them. What I do have is personal principles, and one of them is that if you're going to fuck someone other than your spouse - get permission or get a fucking divorce. I don't get cheating on somebody and staying married to them. So what. What kind of quantum streets smarts do you have? Let me take a crack at defining Quantum Street Smarts: The smallest individual packet, the tiniest incremental bit, the itsiest bitsiest marginal chunk of pavement intelligence that can be imagined. Yeah! I got that! Here you go. There is even a document in their menu called where it came from and where it went. There is a ton of this information available, but no wonder the parties trying to impose their will do not share it. Granted, it can be quite boring stuff to most people, but I think it is more that they really have no use for facts. Of note is that total admin costs (in the where the money goes chart) is 7%. http://www.cms.hhs.gov/NationalHealthExpendData/02_NationalHealthAccountsHistorical.asp#TopOfPage Somebody else will have to make it a clickylinkythingy. No surprise the article does not go into details, just shameless appeals to emotions. At least amongst the business segments that are regulated as to loss-ratios in MN; 90%+ of all dollars taken in via premiums are paid out in claims. Self-insured groups, political subdivisions (read government employee programs), most collectively bargained contracts, and a few others use loopholes to get around that requirement. They also use their status to avoid benefit mandates (some good, some bad), fees and assessments that finance care programs for the poor (foisting a disproportionate share of that burden onto small group and individual purchasers). There is some very good info on where the dollars come from and where they go; especially for the non-profit and not-for-profit entities. On the for profit side it is more of a shell game. You seem determined to see a YES GO JUMP in any answer you get. Understandable that you are anxious to jump; but if you already knew the answer, why did you ask? Hoping you don't get bit by the consequences of your enthusiasm. Do co-workers fill in for smoking breaks for some? How often does the "prayer break interrupting the assembly line" actually happen? Wendy P. Every place I've ever worked in production or assembly or that kind of stuff there have been scheduled breaks to allow employees to smoke, chat, eat, drink, prey, go potty, etc. The boss rarely seems to care what, as long as they are back on schedule. Ya gotta either shut down the line or sub in and take breaks in shifts. I've never figured out what all the ruckus is about on this topic, but admit to not investigating at all. When I was a boss, my favorite line was "Get back to work you!" stolen from a Work In Hell cartoon plastered on my wall. (Binky and his friends, an old Matt Groening comic). It was a joke, and we all laughed a lot. I'd never make it in management again, at least not in any kind of politically correct bureacracy. The boss of bosses would have my head. Agreed. I think somebody should do a split screen video; you know, . . . just for fun. On one side is him having sex, on the other a video of the apology. The tearful apology reminds me of the Python skit where the award winner is giving his acceptance speech and has the little water squirters hooked up to produce streams of tears. This kind of stuff is what comes of extending quantum behavior, which only occurs in the realm of the really really small, to the macro world of our everyday human existence. At the level of the very small, states and events that defy the ususal explanations of everyday observation do occur. But thinking balls will tunnel thru a racket or prisoners will tunnel thru a wall (other than the ususal and mundane everyday methods) is just plain silly. The bizarre individual perturbations of the quantum world are smoothed out when they are all brought together at the level on which humans live their lives. Actually, all other things being equal, with a high enough windspeed, the thermometer will actually read higher, not lower. Friction of the air passing over it will raise the temperature of the thermometer. Good stuff. I am intimately familiar with some of these issues, especiually the cost of care and number of uninsured. Much of what is thrown out there by both sides is simply not true and meant to appeal to people's emotions.
