  1. That is how ORGANIZED religion started. Spirituality. which preceded organized religion by thousands of years (and is what I like to call organic religion) started with respect for the memories of the dead. It went like this: Respect for living elders Respect for the ideas of the elders after they passed Honoring past elders in ceremony Worship of past elders Bestowing powers on past elders. This is where the oogie-boogie kicks in; and of course once magic and mysticism become an answer to whatever you don't know - the sky is the limit on manipulating people and the corruption that follows. 2. One of my favorite comedies. Been sharing a few of them with the kids lately - they are great family movies. Lately we've watched Captain Ron, The Jerk, Repo Man, RV, Let It Ride. Good stuff. 3. Got an interesting form to sign in the back-to-school packet this year. Apparently, if the kids are on a field trip and require medical care, the chaparones must be carrying a form in order to receive any information whatsoever from the provider of care. The scenario given as an example is that there is a bus crash and the kids end up in several different hospitals. The hospital is not even allowed to tell the school officials which kids went to which facilities until the form is provided. I'm expecting that next year I'll get a form to swear to the fact that I am really the one signing the forms - and it will require a notary. 4. Why, is somebody back there taking a leak again? Probably just too much fluid intake. Maybe install a porta-potty back there. 5. Despite humainity's underperformance in achieving full potential for using sound logic and judgemnent, it is tough to sell a new religion these days. While we as a whole seem very resistant to let go of the old versions of oogie-boogie, we are not so fast to buy into new ones. About the closest thing to it would be Scientology - though some might argue it isn't really a religion - or maybe some of the CT BS - like 911 Truthers and Moon Hoaxers. I think TV might qualify; it seems to play a ridiculously significant role in a lot of people's lives. 6. No. Islam is the new Christianity. The old Christianity has settled down following a few hundred years of slaughtering people all over the globe that did not want to join them, raping them of their natural resources, and forcing many of them into slavery. Christians are now happy with their current role of pointing out all the nasty parts of Islam, and how they (the Christians) are so much better for having for the most part let those practices go. I'm giddy with anticipation to see what flavor of oogie-boogie comes next, and how the various parties will line up to play their roles. 8. Not sure if that is more of an oxymron; or just further proof that intelligent people sometimes hold really ignorant beliefs. But yeah, if being very good at brainwashing gullible people is the definition of smart - they are fucking geniuses - along with everybody else that peddles the pablum known as organized religion. 9. Wonder what the rules are in a Muslim run YMCA? You know, about things like peeing in the shower, cutting off a goat's head in the sauna, what women must wear in the steamroom? " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  10. Liberalism Ok... you can take all the rest... I would have thought that being a religious minority... you might have chosen otherwise. What does being Jewish have to do with an intolerance of intolerable actions? Jews are very tolerant of others. Muslims, not so much. Oh pardon me... never mind.. I guess I just expected you to embrace freedom of reliigon.. soory... I guess I was wrong Like most freedoms, I embrace them; but there are limits. Depending on what the institution's leaders request or require, and for some of those things, whether or not the follower acts on those items. At the least, every religion appears to be loaded with worthless, and mostly harmless, oogie-boogie. At the worst, some appear to have no consistent regard for or recognition of basic human rights. 11. And then there are those of us who got it right the first time around. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  12. If the offense is strictly for DUI (not for actually hurting someone or damaging property) then we need to acknowledge that anybody can make this mistake once. 1st offense - $1K fine, loss of license for year. 2nd offense - $10K fine, loss of license for 5 yrs, 1 year in jail. 3rd offense - permanent loss of driving privileges, 5 years in jail at minimum. Any offense with damage to others or their property and the penalties should be much stiffer. Any offense beyond the 3rd and the offender loses all rights to refuse draconian measures to either keep them sober or keep them locked up forever. 13. I'll take Liberal New Media for $10; at anything up to 3-1. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  14. Depends. If the conversation occurs in a place that thrives on cutsie phrases and activities like, Let's agree to disagree Let's go for the low hanging fruit Let's create a space for that conversation Any utterance of the word synergy Any gathering that includes a motivational speaker Any conversation that ends in "Let's do lunch." (Be especially wary if the person does that little pulling the trigger thing with their hand - and run like hell if they make the cute little noise at the same time), . . . it could take a long time to do anything; even if anything is nothing at all. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  15. I'm assuming that by putting that in quotes you mean that advocates for more education and/or defense spending will never be satisfied, that there will never be enough according to them - not that you literally believe there will never be enough. If so, I agree. If not, remind me to insult your position later; right now I've got to get some work done so I will have enough money to go skydiving. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  16. GADS! It's a post in pithy-motivational-poster speak. You do not need to "agree to disagree." Very redundant. If you disagree - THAT'S IT! There is no requirement that you agree that you disagree when it is obvious that you disagree. My observation is that when a person uses that silly phrase they are still flailing about for one last stab at appearing to be superior; as if some goofy middle-management buzzphrase somehow puts them on the high road. "Yes, our conversation is at an impasse, and we obviously are not going to come to agreement; however, I am going to make the bold move to agree we disagree. Knight me." " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  17. When their speech is part of a conspiracy to commit terror, or an urge for others to do so. Applies to everybody, including the groups you listed. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  18. piss weak mate, piss weak. Just because you have decided to blindly accept what is dictated to you, does not mean it has been explained. Dictation is not explanaition, maybe you could cite your sources, or maybe you could make irrelevant analogies to try to change the subject. You clearly do not understand newtons laws of motion, because if you did, you would be able to discuss it and point out where you think, I am, and the rest of the truth movement is incorrect. Instead you make some vague statement that is irrelevant and has nothing whatsoever to do with the subject. All relevant questions have been answered. All silly ideas have been very thoroughly rebutted - more like debunked. You keep asking the same questions, mostly because the answers provided are not the answers you want. If you think you already know the answers, stop asking the questions. You are a poster child for Michael Shermer. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  19. So why is it we can be forced to buy auto insurance, but it is being argued as unconstitutional to be forced to buy health insurance? " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  20. I like the manner in which they worded the accusation towards foreign media. That it was a big lie. Not just a lie, but a big one. Typical maniacal ruler-type hyperbole from his spokesperson. Though if it were Ahbinsobad himself making the announcement he would have used much stronger wording - probably to include the adjectives imperialist running dog; or something eloquent like that. What do Islamic extremists have against running dogs anyway? " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  21. That's a big bingo. Can't do things like eliminate pre-x clauses and guarantee issue everybody coverage for the asking unless everybody is in. The anti-selection will make the system financially untenable at the current cost of care. Did I mention they have done nothing to address cost of care? Anybody wonder why that is? Does it leave any doubt which parties still exert the most influence when instead of addressing cost of care as a reform issue the emphasis is on simply extracting more money from the consumers? " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  22. You seem reasonably intelligent; but are not putting it to use on this topic. You, and a proportionately small but absolutely too large of a subset of the population, appear to want to believe wierd stuff so badly that you check your smarts at the door. An interesting phenomena, and one that used to relegate these kinds of topics to the tabloids until the internet came along and made it possible for all kinds of goofballs to fuel the CT fires. Side note - the buildings did not collapse on their own. Planes flew into them - big ones - loaded with fuel. Then there were fires, very hot stuff. And the 47 story one had big pieces of the bigger buildings fall onto it. Pretty significant destructive forces - hardly what could be called "collapse on their own accord." (We are assigning buildings sentience and their own accord now?) " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  23. So you hold the rulebook on what is fair game and what is not? I don't think anybody does, and I don't think anybody or anything is beyond poking fun at. Those that think they are above humor probably need it the most. Besides, she is an adult, a married adult at that - not a kid. So if being a kid was the sacred rule you think was violated - you'll need to find another rule to invoke. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  24. ahh such eloquence and intellect. You are such a great role model. A real ambassedor for your trade. Well, when the trade is poking holes and poking fun at wildly delusional ideas - yes, he is a great role model. Oh, gotta go. There is a faked-Moon-landing CT'er knocking at my door. Time to go practice the trade. Ooo, based on the book they are carrying, I'm guessing they are also into the Jewish Zombie thing. Double the fun. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  25. I'll take Obama in the 4th round for $100. Any odds. I mean, how can he lose? The other asshole is dead! " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
