Maybe there are not a lot of places to hide? Reminds me of The Python skit where they are demonstrating good techniques for hiding (and not getting blown up), but they keep getting blown up anyway. Mrs. Kitrick Petermann, 167 Penolt Way, West Derbyshire, East Anglia has presented us with a seemingly daunting task by hiding behind one of many many bushes. Unfortunately for her, we peeked. For the same reason we don't have speed limits set based on each individuals ability to handle a vehicle. Fraught with peril; there would be exploitation of loopholes before the ink dried, and it would be an administrative nightmare. I'll go one better and make it a Deep South thing. Certainly there are similar cases damn near everywhere, and they are all equally despicable; but it seems the overwhelming majority of this stuff occurs in the Deep South. Kids locked in cages, kids locked in cars, kids thrown off bridges, kids falling down wells, and so on and so forth. IMPORTANT NOTE TO THOSE LIVING BELOW THE MASON-DIXON LINE: Old wells need to be covered with more than just a scrap of rotted plywood. I'll give you 4 to 1 odds that the next baby-down-the-well story comes from there. Sorry, enough of the Deep South thing. Yes, these stories bring a tear to my eye. As daddy to 6 and 9 year olds; when I read these I imagine some sweet innocent kid with a typical sweet little kid personality and it just about makes my blood boil. To have trust and innocence destroyed before you even reach double digits in age is a tragedy. There is no punishment too cruel for these adults. At the least, they should be nuetered and never again trusted with custody of any child. Preferrable would be to put a diaper on them and toss em into some hellhole of a deep dark dank cell for a few weeks. If they survive that, hose them off and throw them into the general population. I'm sure they'd make a lot of friends. Yep, that is it. Your brain is for the most part ignoring the signal from the bad eye when both eyes are open. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley

Rather narrow-minded consumers you're dealing with to actually have a rule stipulating only 2 kinds of beer. They are both palatable - though Corona is primarily a marketing success, pretty mediocre stuff. LaBatt is a rung up from there, but neither would cause a respectable beer snob to stop in their tracks. Bring them some Grolsch or Newcastle Brown Ale. There are plenty of high quality brews from medium size and microbreweries, but the ones mentioned are both at the top of my list of beers that are available almost anywhere. p.s. - If it's your money being spent - you get to make the rules on what kind of beer to buy. That being said, common courtesy says you do not show up with Blatz, Busch, Bud, PBR, Coors, or any of the other myriad of choices of sweet, nearly tasteless, piss-water swill that most breweries try to pass off as beer. Sure, somebody will probably drink it, . . . eventually. But then again, a starving person will eat dog poop and mud if that's what it takes to stay alive. Being for all practical purposes blind in one eye (can't even tell what direction the big E at the top of the chart is pointing) I know what you are talking about. My doc explained that the way people like us deal with it is by memorizing the size of familiar objects. So as a ballplayer all my life (and a very good center fielder), I judged fly balls by the size of the ball. It was only a problem during night games with a ball hit directly at me. Those were tricky. It's usually only a problem when dealing with an unidentifiable object. Also, when I get really tired and am fighting sleep, the whole world goes totally flat - just like looking at a picture. Funny story: Driving thru the Wisconsin night, friend asleep in the passenger seat. Come over a hill and there is a strange black & white thing right in the middle of the road. I slam on the brakes, come screeching to a stop, waking up Rich. He rubs his eyes and asks what the hell is the matter. I point out the windshield and ask what the hell is in the road. He tells me it's a bunch of cows and they are a quarter mile away. True story. We laughed a lot, and then I ran them over. That part is not true. The dog too may have experiences you do not know about that could trigger it. And dogs are not entirely predictable. Sometimes they just snap. They are less rational than the average human, and given the behavior of many humans, that's saying a lot. My mom was attacked and bitten quite badly, . . . by my sisters dog no less. Bad enough that they had to give her blood on the spot. Most people respond to their dog attacking someone with the same comments you hear on the news from the neighbor of a serial killer: We never . . . He never . . . I can't believe . . . And my favorite, He was so quiet and well behaved . . . Can't remember ever crying for a movie. I can never get to that point knowing it's just acting caught on cellulose. No matter how poignant or emotional, it's still make believe. I am moved by real events like the kind you get from family and good friends. Scripted stuff doesn't touch me deeply at all. just IMHO... how skydiving helps real life

Amen to that ntrprnr! Went thru that cycle myself; glad for the experience, had a lot of fun, but great to move on. I feel for people that don't hit that realization until they are 65 or something. A person's means of livelihood is an important part of life, but if it drives everything else - it's probably worth examination to see if it is robbing the rest of your life. The answer could very well be NO. But don't make the mistake of not checking in on it once in a while. It's better to arrive at the end with few regrets and many cherished memories than the other way around. I'm aiming at a ratio of about 18 bajillion to 1. Well, there are certainly some character attributes that get firmed up by that age, but I wouldn't call it "everything you need to know." To use analogy, it's not hardwired; or you would never be able to change it without surgery. It's more like very deeply imbedded software. It's not information you know, it's more like very general instructions on how you interface with the world. As far as the information that a person uses to execute specific behaviors, the #1 factor is the peer relationships. Many parents don't like to hear it (other than the ones who feel it gets them off the hook), but they are not the #1 unfluence on their child's behavior once their child begins socializing. It's the peer group (generally accepted, on average, to be about 50% of your adult character). Genetics, school, and parents make up most of the rest. Basically, for most kids, if you get a look at their parents you get a very good idea of where their coming from. If you get a look at their peers, you get a good idea of where they are going. What's Your Favorite Part of the Skydive?
pirana replied to mattyblast's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I could see that. Anticipation is very high stress. Once you get into whatever it is you were anticipating, you would tend to just act and stop overthinking; more of going with the flow instead of anticipatory fear of everything that might happen. My first thought was the driving thing. I did do a bit of competitive driving and consider myself extremely capable behind the wheel; but skydiving bumped it up another notch. Not just in remaining cool, calm, and collective under extremes, but in assessing risk overall. It has definitely improved the observe, analyze, decide, execute cycle time. Has it helped me fit in. No, quite the opposite. I have even less patience than before with people that fret over squat. Yeah, I'm a relic. Looking for something current and dorky, but everything recent was taken with a digital that creates files way too big - they will not upload. Searching . . . There we go. Relatively current AND in tropical gear. Graduated in 73. Never ever had a summer reading assignment. And we had the entire summer off; Memorial Day to Labor Day. Ah yes, good times. Ditto to all those things, and a few I won't mention in case the statute of limitations hasn't run out yet. 40 was great, 50 is a gas. Can't change your age, but you can usually control your state of mind. The nice thing about increasing age is that, with a healthy approach to life, you usually get increasing wisdom. I'm having so much fun in my 50's that I just can't relate to an 'I'm getting old' perspective yet. I count teens and seniors as my good friends. I think it is very healthy to understand the differing perspectives of multiple generations. Except one thing. I do not understand people treating their bodies as a pincushion. Don't think of that as a judgement, I just do not understand it. But then again I have a needle phobia. What is it about that picture that needs discussion? Aside from a mildly deviant sigh, and perhaps a grunt or two? " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley

I recall seeing it on the keg list at Mr. Liquor (Exit 4, the Somerset US 12 exit, across the street from the big TA truck stop; right next door to Mr. Convenience). I believe it is around $120 to $130 for a 16er. They can get damn near anything with enough notice. They are, after all, MR LIQUOR. I'll do a big second on that. I may be a bit old fashioned, but I'm big into the whole candles, warm oil, sexy lingerie, good wine and soft music thing. That being said, everybody has their thing. I'm sure those who just want to strip and have sex enjoy their thing just as much as I enjoy mine. Yeeha. x " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley

Just one plane? Two words: Formation load. Nice pics DQ. I like the one of his favorite beer; it looks about 6' tall. Yeah, Wednesday evening was special, and very nice. I'm gonna try to make it back out Saturday night. BS everybody.
