What it really boils down to is politicians not understanding their mandate. The Mayer and council of Berkely need to worry about traffic signals, sewers and the like. The Marine corp is under federal jurisdiction. It reminds me of the time in the eighties when the city of Vancouver declared itself a nuclear weapons free zone. They then announced that the US carrier that was scheduled to visit was welcome as long as they had no nuclear weapons aboard. The Canadian Department of Defense had no official comment, but some nameless lieutenant from the pres dept did mention that the carrier would be docking at a federal wharf located in a federal harbour. The unstated completion of the thought was that the mayor could fuck right off.

When the taser videos were everywhere the cop-types on here were offering up defenses for the cops in question. I am curious to see whether anyone cares to defend this guy. This is clearly an example of someone who needs to be dismissed; he appears to have anger management issues and should not be allowed a position of authority. His comments about the boy's life being in danger were way, way out of line, and the take down was IMHO not part of an arrest, it was an assault.

Taiwan and Singapore are doing fine with it. Hong Kong demonstrated that they don't have an aversion to it.

Editorial: Conservatives' Hatred of McCain Makes No Sense
Andrewwhyte replied to masterblaster72's topic in Speakers Corner
Do you mean the I-5, Tijuana to Vancouver or the I-35/I-29 Nuevo Laredo to Winnipeg? They were both built in the 1950's Maybe you mean the supersecret plan by the Council for Foreign Relations to connect the I-90 at Billings to the I-15 at Great Falls, thus completing the one world governmentalists dream of Ciudad Juarez to Lethbridge. -
This is a prime example of someone who never understood the concept of public service.

It was not the European way 100 years ago. Neither cultures nor individual people have a natural proclivity towards or against democracy.

Aren't all bars private industry? No I have not been there since May, but I am pretty sure they are complying with the law.

All bars in AZ have been smokeless since last May.

901. The difference is not trivial. -
Against Clinton I think Powell would be counter productive. Against Obama it would be tokenism at its worst; no way Powell would play. I don't think he would play in any event. He allowed himself to be part of the Bush team's lies to start the war; it was wrong and he knows it.

Denny's should be prohibited from making the eating of grandslam breakfasts a condition of working there.

Personal stories are suspect not because people doubt the veracity of the opinion, but because by nature they are not inclusive (they are a sample of the 100,000+ stories out there), nor are they randomly picked; proponents and detractors alike highlight the stories that support their position. Fatality numbers, on the other hand are not samples, they are of the population as a whole. If you wish to dispute the veracity of the statistic itself, then do so, but to suggest that Kallend (an outspoken detractor) chose the number "2007=901" in particular for political reasons makes no sense; it is the only number available for 2007. If you wish to dispute the significance of the statistic "US DEATHS IN IRAQ BY YEAR" you can do that, but I think you will have a tough time convincing anyone. Personally I would listen to the argument "TOTAL DEATHS BY VIOLENCE IN IRAQ" is more significant, but since the estimates vary so widely I tend not to trust the veracity of those numbers regardless of source. -
Does a NOTAM have to be filed in all classes of airspace? Remember he's in Wyoming, a state notable chiefly for its lack of people.

The proponents of the war have announced that the corner has been turned so many times now that most people aren't buying it. Until Kalend's fatality numbers begin to fall propaganda suggesting a sea-change is just that, propaganda. -
That may not be the case but I don't know what Canada's regulations are. In the US a smoking lounge has the highest ventilatin requirements of any space and that can get expensive. Very few bar or restaurant owners are willing to pay for a dedicated ventilation system when they already have a full kitchen to pay for. A lot of bars in BC invested. That is what is making it hard to get rid of them. The bar owners are screaming about sunk costs to meet a moving target. BTW when I said ",..most lax regs in the country" I was referring to my country not yours.
-
One trend I notice is that the later a jurisdiction goes non-smoking, the more comprehensive the ban tends to be. British Columbia was the first province in Canada to ban smoking is restaurants, and later in bars. They did however allow for designated smoking rooms with specific ventilation requirements. That is now one of the (if not the) most lax regs in the country. Alberta on the other hand just banned smoking in bars last month province wide. The ban includes all patios and a five metre zone around the door. The current smoking related issues here now are whether to ban smoking in cars with children in them, and whether a condominium strata board has the right to ban smoking in privately owned apartments and town houses (apparently they do).

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Definitely Part 91, maybe even Part 135. Most jump planes and cargo carriers operate under Part 91, unscheduled. Part 91 allows "flexible" maintenance schedules (i.e. operating engines "on condition" well past TBO). Since Part 135 includes scheduled passenger operations, component replacement schedules are tighter. Mind you, if you are operating a large fleet of similar airplanes, it is nice to be able to plan a year or two ahead for replacing expensive components like engines. Except the OP is in Ontario so the cargo planes in the area are unlikely to registered with the FAA at all.

I agree that the superdelegates issue is a time bomb for the democrats. Just about all the pundits' analysis show Obama ahead on pledged delegates and Clinton ahead over-all. I suspect that if they go into the convention like that many of Clinton's superdelegates will be 'unfaithful' and vote for the good of the party. If the networks are not covering this story in capital letters I will start wearing my tin-foil hat full time. The GOP have unelected RNC delegates, but they are a much smaller percentage of the total.

Why high voter turnout isn't necessarily a good thing...
Andrewwhyte replied to lawrocket's topic in Speakers Corner
This assumes that the marginal voters and the uninformed voters are one and the same. The assumption is unfounded. -
Fayard already has a plane in that market; I am not sure he would want to compete with himself.

Oh I didn't say I was complaining.

I hear Larry Hill pays agriculture (subsidized) rates for power; now that's politics.

Larry Hill has one or two at Skydive Arizona. if you are looking for one for SWOOP I would look to the former SWOOPies in US for help; namely TK in Z-Hills or Liz in Cross Keys.
