Call the Tony Suit shop and ask any questions you have. They are very helpful. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

Look at it this way - Some of the most skilled pilots in the world, flying the most high-performance aircraft, sit in an ejection seat. Because shit happens, and the ground is totally unforgiving. Why not take advantage of any technological edge possible. As far as a two-out, learn what to do and understand the variables and how to deal with them. It doesn't happen from being a LITTLE low. You can toss at 2500 all day and never have a problem. Kevin K. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

It's definitely a new low in obnoxious advertising. I'm sure some "Web Guru" thinks he's a fucking genius for coming up with this one. I remember when DZ.com was taken over by the new folks who said they "...only wanted to make it better..." I guess they're trying to see how much crap they can get by with inflicting on their users in the name of making a buck. I really hope they're monitoring the feedback. Questionable tandem harness - how dangerous was this?
kkeenan replied to poser's topic in Tandem Skydiving
What, exactly, do you consider qualification to be called an "expert" ? _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ? -
Ever since the episode with the shot of her back, while changing her shirt. She had a huge, intricate cross tattoo - kind of like DiNero in Cape Fear. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

It cracks me up to think of all the Man From U.N.C.L.E. episodes I watched as a kid. David McCallum was pretty young when he made them, but now we're both somewhat older. Kevin K. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

I suspect that this was more psychological than physiological. At higher altitudes, one can not feel any difference in the ease of breathing. (At least not 16 - 25k) Certainly, hypoxia can occur at altitudes depending on the individual's fitness, but I'm not aware of ever having "difficulty" breathing. Usually, the breathing feels fine, you just start feeling and acting goofy, then you pass out. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

Landing Pattern 1.4 - landing approach simulation

Wow. 15%. That's almost mainstream. I guess you're used to software providers not caring about such a small "fringe" group. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ? -

Landings ... I am frustrated beyond belief!!!
kkeenan replied to OlympiaStoica's topic in Safety and Training
Try this - Get up on a picnic table, or other platform about that height and length. If you can find something longer, that is better. Start at one end and run to the other end, jumping off as you get to it. Don't try to stop as you hit the ground, watch the ground as you leave and, as you land, keep running a few steps. If you fall, try to roll, as in a forward PLF. This is a good simulation to train your eyes and your feet to work together to run out a landing. It may sound silly, but having your brain get used to the "sight picture" will make you react better. Doing 100 of these "landings" is way cheaper than 100 jumps, and can actually improve your landings. Kevin K. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... As we see so often in skydiving accidents, "OK" simply means, "Not Dead". Jeni has lots of serious injuries and will need plenty of time, prayers, and good vibes to recover. Best thoughts to her and Mike. Kevin K.

The BO-105 is an awesome helicopter. This is a bit more radical, but it reminds me of the rides they gave in the Bell 412 at WFFC-Quincy. Unfortunately, those ended when an overenthusiastic video guy ran out in front of the helo as it was in a full-tilt boogie with the front edge of the rotor 4 ft. off the ground. Not a pretty sight. Anyway, this is some cool flying. http://justhelicopters.tv/Play/TabId/267/VideoId/63/BO105-Semi-Aerobatic-In-Forest.aspx _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... relative proximity and deployment
kkeenan replied to Misternatural's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That is why it is important to learn to track fast and effeciently. Even following a funnel, you should be able to determine a "center of mass" based on the people you can see. Turn away from that point and go like hell. If you are looking ahead and below you, you should be able to see anyone there. Likewise, anyone above and behind you should be able to see you. Make sure that you wave off prior to pulling, so those above you know your intentions and can alter course. This is the accepted protocol. If everyone follows this system, it allows for mutual safeguards. You shouldn't pull below your minimum altitude, but if you're comfortable fudging a bit to the low side, this is the time to do it. If your personal pull altitude is something different from the rest of the group, make sure that they all know this. If it is vastly different - and unchangeable - you probably don't belong on that load. Kevin K. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ? -
In my opinion, anyone with "thousands of jumps", who tells you that they get anxious when the door is opened, is just trying to make you feel better. I think it's just a low-timer thing, and people get over it. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

what is easier to master?
kkeenan replied to JumpsOffCliffs's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Mastery is relative. The great thing about almost all skydiving disciplines is that you can always get better at what you do. I'll guarantee that anyone you find that you look up to, as being an expert in a particular field, has someone else that they look up to as being better. Usually, the folks who will tell you that they have "mastered" something are the least likely to have actually done so. The real masters of most disciplines will tell you that they are always trying to get better. Kevin K. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ? -

So you assign the same risk to a jumper making 50 jumps during that year as you do to someone making 350 jumps ? _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

Congratulations. However, rather than seeing how bad you can mess up your canopy until you have to cutaway, why don't you practice doing turn reversals that do not put you in line twists. This requires gaining a feel for the canopy and the control inputs until you can tell how much is too much. Kevin K. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome...
