    One thing that I haven't seen mentioned is the time factor involved here. If you "waited" for your CYPRES to fire at 750 ft., and it malfunctioned by not firing, how soon would you be aware of this and pull manually ? If it took you 1 sec. to recognize the failure and pull, and 1 sec. for the reserve to open, you would be at approx. 400 ft. Pretty slim margin.     The 2008 Kaleidoscope Big-Way event was held this past weekend at DeLand, and I have to give highest praise to the planners, organizers, DZ staff, and anyone else involved. This was an extremely well-run event. The dives were well-engineered, and we were knocking out 100-ways all weekend. It was great to see lots of old friends and enjoy the beautiful, if chilly, Florida weather. Look for some very nice photos in the usual magazines, because there were some very picturesque formations.

    As Chris alluded to, the grommet hole is the key to the weakness. The rated strength of the webbing is not valid when you punch a hole in the middle of it and set a grommet.     I used a setup like that on my Baby Para-Plane, back in the 70s. I was told that with the "Pilot Chute Controlled Reefing", 2 MA-1s were required for the opening to be survivable. I was told that, "One will allow too fast of an opening, and three will not let it open at all". I didn't like either of those prospects, so I stayed with 2.
