    The column, "Grim Rigger" in Blue Skies Magazine, presents a real-world view of the ancient, honorable trade of parachute rigging. It discusses some of the elements of a rigger's life, low pay, long hours, and ungrateful, abusive customers. I think it's one of the best sections of this new magazine, which is in its first year of publication.     Primary Landing Site - KSC Sunday night - First opportunity - 2216 EST Second opportunity-2351 EST There are other opportunities involving Edwards AFB and White Sands Space Harbor that may be used if KSC wx is below minimums, but those will probably not be used until the second landing day. KSC wx is forecast to be pretty good.

    For all the Space nuts, and Bill Von in particular, here is a photo of the new Cupola installed on the International Space Station Node 3. The center window is the largest window ever installed on a spacecraft. The view is second only to the view through a spacesuit helmet visor outside the station. Kevin K.

    I live 10 min. from a DZ that has the fastest jump plane on the east coast. They do mostly Tandems there, since the majority of the experienced jumpers have gone elsewhere. Luckily, there are 3 major DZs within about an hour's drive. A close DZ is good, but a good DZ is better. Kevin K. Titusville FL _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome...     While you're up there, try some rear riser stalls. This gives a little different stall entry than steering lines, and seems more stable if you hold it in the stall. Also good for getting a feel in case you are making a rear riser landing for some reason. Definitely do it at an altitude you wouldn't mind cutting away at.     While the manufacturer mandates a 12-year retirement date, and FAA Riggers are required to comply with that, the practice is not worldwide. In areas where the rules are different, people are buying up old CYPRESs and using them well past the 12-year limit. Life is cheap for their kind...     I agree. The Olympic Opening Ceremonies have always been very entertaining and a great start to watching the games. It will be tough following the extravaganza put on by the Chinese, but then I doubt that any country will ever invest the money and people that that opening had. The Canadians are very imaginative and resourceful, so I'm expecting a good show. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

    The Solar Dynamics Observatory has separated from the Centaur upper stage, deployed its solar panels, oriented itself, and is "working like clockwork".     Centaur has finished its first burn, and all is well in the preliminary orbit. The Centaur will be fired up again in one orbit to boost the vehicle to the final orbit. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

    Very nice launch, right on time. This configuration of the Atlas 5 has no Solid Rocket Boosters, so the exhaust trail is very clean, with no contrails until higher altitudes. The first stage burn was clean and the Centaur second stage is 9 minutes into an 11 min. burn. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

    The Atlas 5 is go for launch at 1023 EST today. All is good with the rocket. The winds are starting to come up again, but fluctuating enough that they will probably be able to launch during a lull in the gusts. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome...     Your Personal Attack would be more effective if you add a comma before and after the word, "Idiot", so that the person more easily can see what name you are calling him. Why make the moderators' jobs extra difficult. However, maybe I mis-read your statement, and this was a "Canopy Course for Idiots". These things are very specialized these days.
