  1. would that be Kaz Shekey (I know I butchered that spelling, but it's hooked on phonics correct)? There's a couple of chicks that I know that swoop hard... it's cool.
  2. yup, thought that was you... fairly big guy right? didn't get to see the bloody nose though... $50-100 is about right, since that what the parachute retrieval team charges.
  3. Jetstream - inside center -- you probably know Joe from Skydive U - we're typically first out. what jump suit do you wear - I'm sure we've been on a few loads together. Wild Bill's apprentice found Joe's Velocity Sunday afternoon. right behind the BBQ in those trees. I knew it was in there, but didn't look, my legs were already scratched up enough.
  4. depends on where you live. there were three canopies (at least) unlocated on Saturday at Cross Keys. One of them was found Sunday afternoon. The problem - it was in a tree 60 feet up, not visible by air (a cessna was rented to go out and look for it). and barely visible from ground (as a purple/green/black canopy would be). living in a dessert, or farm land, that might be a different story. that said...I'll rely on my eyes though and not spend that $$.
  5. sure it doesn't (sarcasm), but it's the same exact helmet I bet. Me thinks skysystems has gotten caught a little bit. Besides, a factory diver doesn't latch, and you could probalby get the little latch thingys pretty cheap. $195 for an A3 bass/skydiving system.
  6. got a big dose of "why is this taking so long" a couple of weeks ago... competition at Delmarva in their otter (not super at all), taking like 25 minutes to 10.5.... back to cross keys Frankenotter climbing between 1,300 and 1,500 FPM less than 10 minutes - hardly any time for a nap at all. It is easy to get spoiled. (Rob has a timer and I got a look at it once, he was doing 18 minute turn arounds - including loading the plane - to 13.5)
  7. who knows, but an oxygen for $195 vs $300, gotta wonder. -- those boats do go pretty fast in shallow water, and with sharp hooks flying all about, besides -- if the boat funnels.....
  8. check this link out: http://www.thinkhelmets.com/products.htm Ha, I just checked the site again, and they now have a disclaimer that the helmet has been modified for bass fishing and not suitable for skydiving. Maybe the price has something to do with that.
  9. nope, you read it right, but in full combat RW (read: aggressive 4way or working in the tunnel), it's not uncommon to get a black eye, bloody nose or (in my case) a broken tooth. Yes, I've seen all the aforementioned maladies. They (helmets) are not fool-proof, but have worked for me a couple of times (last year we were learing a new exit and I hit the bar so hard the pilot heard it - if not for the helmet, I'm sure I would have been a rag doll in free fall).
  10. A full face helmet will offer some protection, but if you've ever seen the results of a bloody nose in one... well, it's pretty messy (but self contained). The problem is you can't see anything.

    Mirage

I feel bad for Pammi and her container. I've gotten nothing but good service from them (even changed something while I waited - for free). I would be careful, however, in making statements about PD Source and their relationship to Mirage. Especially if not all the facts are known.

    tunnel anyone?

Actually you are hovering in an airstream below five fans. The tunnel allows for constant repetion of moves, constant repetion breeds muscle memory, which you bring into the air with you. Typically you're in the airstream 2-3 minutes (that would be a really high altitude jump) working on things. One of the Airspeed guys said learing to skydive is like trying to learn to ride a bike 50 seconds at a time with a 40 minute break in between. The tunnel allows you to paratice for longer stretches without a huge break in there. It's an excellent tool.

    tunnel anyone?

typically the discount is given if you buy a full hour, we're booking separate half hours (half hour in/ debrief and prep out/half hour in). We have committed to 4.5 hours over the weekend (I think -- can't remember right now). We may work some magic when we are there, we'll see.

    tunnel anyone?

How we've done it in the past is charge by the minute, so you only pay for what you fly. Roughly speaking it's $10 per minute for 30 minute block

    tunnel anyone?

A couple of us have some tunnel time lined up for Friday 8/17, sat 8/18 and Sun 8/19. We're looking for a fourth to help fill time. There will be no coaching fees involved, just pay for the time you fly. IF you are interested in doing some 4way on Saturday at Deland, let me know also (experience at point or outside center would be excellent, but not necessarily required). email me if you're interested.
  16. I too, use Terry and he is a heck of a rigger - and the one who wrote the manual on the Vector reserve re-pack. I was over there the other day talking about rigs, desings and the like and he never mentioned it.
  17. hmmm, reserve deployment issues, haven't seen any incident reports or data to indicate there is a problem. But I do know of people who has deployed their reserve (in some cases many times) w/o issue.
  18. the Mirage and Micron are both narrow desings and in effect do the same thing. The Racer I used to have moved around a lot on my when I started doing serious 4 way. My Mirage doesn't budge. The one complaint I have heard about the new Javelin design is if you are a little "girthy" it actaully may cut in to your sides. Hey, did anyone see the new Mirage chest ring design - it's sweet!
  19. where the heck are you going to get pure benzene? besides being flammable, combustable and cancer causing it is a really good de-greaser, not sure about adhesive though and not sure how it would react to the vaious nylons and cloth used to make your rig - it's been awile since I worked around that particular chemical. You may want to call the tape manufacturer and ask them, they have 800 numbers for that sort of thing.
  20. are U buying new or used? used probably won't fit as well as custom harness. A lot of it is user preference, some containers feel really good right away, some take a little break in. Look at the construction features - what type of padding (foam) do they use? closed or open cell - it makes a difference, one will break down over time, the other is more expensive (and reflected in the cost of the container). Some containers have double wide leg straps -- hip rings add mobility and a little level of comfort. If you're doing a ton of jumps per day the additional backpadding is nice. call some manufacturers, check out their sites, find out what they say about their design.
  21. I was in the same shoes as you last year (more jumps, however). I was flying a Sabre 170 (I'm about 225 out the door). I demo'd the 150 that Dan had at the DZ. Flew much better and openings were way better than the Sabre. First couple of jumps were straight in approaches and the thing landed really nice, even got a couple of good carving landings on it.
  22. How old was the unit - did he have the little protector for EMF radiation installed? Airtec will take an interest in it for sure. The unit does store the data and they can extract and examine it.
  23. it's not situational dependant, it's altitude awareness. If the formation tracks at their prescribed break off altitude, you do to. If the foramtion hasn't tracked away at pull time, well I guess it will be raining free bags ala Nationals last year (fun jump big way, I think 4 AAD fires on the load - at least it was a good spot all the free bags landed in the grass). The point is, you hang on the outside and try your hardest to get back "up" to the formation, at break off, pick your heading and track away. I've seen some pissed off camera people when jumpers elect to do something not in the plan (no track, short track). In fact, there was a guy goofing around, caused a burble for the camera guy at deployment and his X-braced canopy spun up like a barber pole because of it - he chopped. Not a very good scenerio.
  24. yes, I was repling to ClayFowler... easier to see in the threaded view.
  25. didnt' remember seeing it, if so I apologize... looking forward to the information. dave
