OK, Skymama and I met on Sunday. She explained to me that she had 66 jumps -- I politely informed her that she must do jump 69 naked, it's a tradition.... she wouldn't believe me (even after consultation with others), so I told her I would put it to the group.... what do you guys think
-
My teammate had a similar experience, he put about 12 jumps on my 139, lost his Velocity (cut away) and jumped someone else's 119 for a few jumps. He bought a 129. (he was flying a stiletto 150 btw). Overall he liked the way the 139 handled vs teh 150 siletto, but he likes to go fast. Did you jump canopies with the "B" line mod? (you can tell if the B is cascaded or not - no cascade is the new mod)

The Mirage leg adapter is not stainless.

if you have a question call them. Ask yourself- has anyone gone in because a PC did not launch correctly (given clean air and enough altitude)? And if so, what gear were they jumping. There is a database out there that you could look for this information on.
-
Go ahead, I've already tried it a few times, but all I ever get is a laugh out of it. :)
-
Uncontrolled airport - FAA does't really get involved (except for the aircraft inspection part). USPA doesn't govern flight procedures - actually they dont' govern anything at all, they publish recommendations.

One of the funniest (corney, whatever) skydiver pick up lines.... "hey, want to do a two way?..good,.. then maybe later we'll make a skydive."
-
are U sure it's stainless and not plated steel?

If you are around Cross Keys or the Ranch (NY) there is a video of a real live horseshoe -- BOC system, pin gets knocked out. She didnt' even know what was going on, couldn't get down to the formation though. the video guy actaully pulled the PC out. She then ended up with (I think) something around her ankle, got rid of that, had a bag lock, which she got out of, which turned into a ball of spinning mess, which she finally cut away from. I think she covered all the major mals in one opportunity. She even took a little free fall delay before deploying the reserve. True story, it happened at Z-hills around new years. (it all started right out the door of the plane, so there was plenty of altitude to fight with the thing. Weekend before last some students were doing low solos (typical Aff grads, scared of anything less than 13 grand). THe third one pitched, JM looking out the door, we all hear "OH SH__" lot's of heads out the door, apparently he pitched, did some sort of loop (back I think), and had the lines around his ankle, was able to free himself, but I dont think he passed that level.

Out of curiousity, did you talk to anyone there about that? I have no intention of flying out there (mainly because I don't have a pilot's license), but am curious as to what their response would be. P.S. I'm not a Roger hater either, went out there when I had around 200 jumps, he treated me very well, even organized some 9-10 ways which were excellent (for me at that time).

depends on the grades (strength).... depends on the corrosion resistance you are looking for (which flavor metal). I would definately NOT use stainless in a high chloride environment - stress corrosion cracking. they each (carbon, stainless, alloy 20, Inconel, hastelloy, nickel - yes they make nickel piping, teflon coating, etc.) have their place in refineries and chemical plants. I wouldn't use stainless bolting unless it's a high heat application either. (my background -- 15 years as equipment engineer in the field) BTW: I got the nickel plating on my last Mirage, looks better than the regular hardware (IMO), but without the slippage.
-
They actaully have another metal that they're using, also - it's shiny like Stainless, but there is no upcharge for it, ask them about it. Note, they do not use stainless on the leg straps because the coefficient of friction is low, the straps tend to slip on those.
-
Actually it'll probably be a half-hitch knot in the line, but the end result is still the same.
-
band to end of loop. Line stows (IMHO) are one of the most important, but most overlooked aspect of packing (especially if you're jumping that is an older design that tends to open quickly as it is). Short, non-secure line stows lead to a plethora of issues.
-
They pretty much have that covered. They've even created a couple new random formations that aren't in the dive pool. Some of them involve head down manuvers, so they are very cutting edge :)

Sure, the Cobalt may be suitable for beginners...

Respect is good -- the ground is usually hard and unforgiving. While I'm not against learning and downsizing while appropriate, one must understand that going smaller and faster has it's inherent risks. (I just saw in the S&T forum yet again another jumped breaking themselves under a good canopy). be cautious, listen to others, know yourself. -
Yup that was us, she came up in September, then went to Nationals with us.

It's going to get painted over the winter. Apparently the FAA is drawn to a plane like flies to cow pies when they see a multi-part aircraft at a ramp. "it's not how you feel, it's how you look". I've nodded off before (light load, you can spread out) and been awakened with everyone getting ready, didn't take too long!

yup, that's why front risers are better for a high performance landing, toggles are better for EMT rides. I was replying to Clay who is using 180 toggle hooks, which IMHO are not teh way to learn to swoop.... double front risers straight in, then start with the turns safst way to learn. dave

so in 32 jumps you've mastered your 260 -- explored it fully and are now teaching other students how to surf it in and you're ready to tackle a high performance wing? wow. -
we looked for 4 hours on Saturday - even rented a plane. There is an "outside contractor" how really knows the woods and area around the DZ. People were out looking, but this guy usually finds the stuff long after we've given up. It's not like he's there waiting, I think he's got all the tree climbing gear also.

SInce I won't be anywhere near a computer tomorrow... Happy Birthday a day early.... (BTW you are now a day late in wishing ME a happy birthday, dont' worry I won't hold it against you). Is Capricious going to Chamersburg?
-
watch the toggle inputs. Toggle turns do not recover as fast as front riser approaches. If you want to perform a high performance landing, perfect the front riser turn. If you prefer the safer method of landing anyway.

I'm not Carrie, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night (not really).... last I heard they were up there.

yup, we used to jump together in NY... our camera guy broke his Femur last year and she filmed us at Nationals... she is excellent.
