yeah, I just looked at Mapquest, too, but got a different result (by an hour), weird... Atlanta is way the heck inland, then all the way back out. -

OK, how long to get there from Daytona, say if I left at like 4am? -
QuoteKnees + Pain = Bad If you can, see a doc. If not, try Aleve. It is an over-the-counter version of Naprosin one of the very frequently prescribed anti-inflamatories out there. If you just have some swelling, Ice + Aleve might help. Quote I dont' think Alleve is an anti-inflamitory, I believe it is a blood thinner, but I could be wrong (ibuprofen and aspirin on the other hand and anti-inflamitory)

then you are not training correctly. period -- end of story, and the team that wins because they are mentaly, physically and emotionally prepared the best does win. Depends how you define "best". A team of very skillful old guys may do very well for 5 or six rounds and then tire, and be passed by less skilled but more athletic youngsters. So is "best" the most skillful, or those with the best endurance? I know for sure that I make more mistakes in the later rounds of a competition when I'm tired. Track and field has multiple events from 100m to marathon, and best at one distance doesn't mean best at any other.

loose joints are bad if you're into skiing, b-ball, soccer, etc. it's easier to sprain/strain/tear/pull, or otherwise injure yourself. if it's a ligament it will typlically swell, if it's cartlidge only it usually won't but hurts like a bugger at certain times. Women typically have a higher incidence of knee injury due to the "Q" angle (hip to knee angle that the femur makes) being higher than a male (again, typically). this angle puts more strain on the joint, also women tend to have "looser" joints by design. The rate of ACL/PCL/MCL injuries in women collegiate basketball is much much higher than men due to this.

oh, well, that's not a good thing, but if you can, I would fill it out now, you can also get extended health care after leaving that way (Cobra). not a bad idea if you're going to travel the country jumping and partying (it's the after hours/rainy day stuff that may get ya)
-
Don't go to a regular doc, go to an orthopedist, or sports specialized doc. (Unless of course your freedom of choice has been removed by joining an HMO). If it's cartlidge they will give you two choices, live withit or get scoped, teh scope isn't that bad. If it hurts waliking down stairs, but not up, it's probably not an ACL or something similar. it's something you should get checked out though.

From a friend and fellow skydiver.... if you're in Florida, and you are looking for something to do in the evenings (besides party or go to the tunnel

that's interesting, I just got the slinks, no other options on my new canopies (not that I minded).
-
there was a lengthy thread on this not to long ago... they come standard with PD canopies now. a search on "slinks" will turn that thread up I'm sure.

I would prefer to have the full 10 rounds for a meet as well. I think it's awesome getting to cover most of the randoms/blocks (unlike nats where our fav #14...was drawn for round 11). But I don't agree with your logic regarding the 3 rounds possibly being your weakest blocks/randoms. You lose because you don't have the highest score after 3 rounds. You should be equally as strong in all formations so as not to use "first 3 rounds were our weakest" as an excuse for losing a meet. If you're consistently in the low end of the scores after 3 consecutive rounds, then your team, most likely, isn't the strongest at that meet on that day... blues, arlo Very true, and after 10 rounds it becomes even more apparent who has the best team (including video)

What do you do when you can't read the windsock properly?
weid14 replied to NicoNYC's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
better watch that one, too, with the pond closer to the middle of the field now, the approach area on that side of the landing area may be "hot" -
I think it depends on where you learned and what type of canopy you jump. My first few hundred were at a C-182 DZ, cloudy day, no problem, stick the tail in the ceiling and if it's above 2 grand we go. Of course it was a fairly fast opening canopy, and all. A turbine DZ doesn't do many low lobs in my experience YMMV.

wind tunnel misconceptions cleared up (IMO, anyway :)
weid14 replied to arlo's topic in Relative Work
there's more to center point than just turning, side slides, translation, translation while turning, etc. you'd be wise to contact a coach and explain what you want to work on. you can spend hours in there (not at once), and still learn more, it's really up to you. (note, I'm not Arlo, she is much better looking that I) -
times have changed, too. was there a US hijacking before sept 01? no, not all flights, I believe it is a high 80ish percent. hey, I dont' have anything against you or I owning a firearm or carrying one, provided they are capable of handling it. have you taken a look at most commercial pilots these days

if you've got a blast you've probably breached the body of the plane, that's a bad thing. the doors are already locked per SOP. I don't think a gun in the hands of someone that is old, overweight and is hung over from the night before is wise . a hijacker kills someone, they get the same in return from the air marshall (most flights have two on them now). and how do you deal with a hijacker that gets some c-4 on board and can blow the tail of the plane off? (would be so easy to do, security is a joke)
-
right you have to do it in that order, repeat as time allows
-
right on, but they did have cuts after rounds 9 & 10, too, do you support that?
-
And assisting passengers! yeah, that too
-
and what happens when one of the older geezers takes a potty break, and gets mugged, and loses his gun in the airport prior to boarding the aircraft, then what? leave the gun fighting in the airplanes to the marshalls.
